craig, in the yamaha receiver setup, there is an option to send LFE to both Main's and sub, either, or one. This setting exists even if you set your mains to small. i have been wondering about this particular setting too.

I went to buy the Atoms and ended up buying the mini-monitors. The difference in the showroom was amazing but since i couldnt audition the atoms at home, i dont realize how good my mini-monitors are currently (paired with a dayton 10" sub).

from what i've read, there are only cosmetic differences between the yamaha's line of HTR and RX equivalents. I'm not sure whether the 2 that you have listed are equivalent models.
