Cutting the Cable Cord...but wait, there's more!!!

Hi All, I have been working at hacking away my cable costs. About two months ago, it was roughly $200 per month. Keep in mind that I never actually paid that, I called in once a year to get a deduction/special on my rate to cut it to about $150.00 per year. My options are: $125.00 for...

If receiver has no hdmi input ----> dvd ?

The DVD player has the option, it just doesn't seem to work. On the DVD side, I've turned off the "Send Audio" but it continues to send it back to the TV via HDMI. I would turn off the TV audio, but I use the TV speakers for regular cable programs. I haven't found a way to program the volume...

If receiver has no hdmi input ----> dvd ?

My problem here is that my DVD sends the audio to both the TV and the AVR. In order to watch a movie, I have to turn the TV audio all the way down (mute produces an icon on the TV). With the new AVR's coming out and supporting input from HDMI cables, what are my choices? I'd like to run my...

New TV: Switching up the input/output

Thanks Ed! I haven't bought the TV yet (waiting until Black Friday), but should have reviewed the documentation online. Thank you. So, I don't quite understand the bit about "only 2 channel sound will be heard". Will the optical digital output of the TV not send the 5.1 or DTS signal...

New TV: Switching up the input/output

Thanks for the quick reply John. For the DVD: The receiver has no HDMI input or output. The DVD has not digital optical input or output. My old setup was coax audio to the receiver and component video to the TV. Is there a way to get HDMI to the TV and audio to the receiver? My DVD gives...

New TV: Switching up the input/output

Tell me what if this sounds right: TV: Samsung LN40A550 DVD: Toshiba SD-5000 Surround Sound Receiver: Pioneer VSX-D412 Cable: Time Warner: Explorer 8300 HD My main concern is the audio. In the past, I ran the DVD audio to the surround receiver via digital coax (TV/Cable used the TV...

    Progressive Scan on HDTV

Reading around a bit, it sounds like the progressive scan will only take the picture to 480p. So, with the component selection set, is it possible my TV is upconverting to 1080i? This would explain why the picture is better than progressive scan.

    Progressive Scan on HDTV

Hi All, I have a Philips 30PW8402/37 CRT HDTV and Toshiba SD-5000KU DVD player. The TV has component and HDMI inputs. Online, I found that the TV has EyeFidelity for progressive scan, however my physical manual does not mention this. Also, the TV is a 1080i. The DVD player allows for...

    Toshiba SD-5000

Thanks Craig. Any ideas on the sound? It doesn't do this if I use component video. Another oddity, when in HDMI video the screen flips between snow and black while the movie menu comes up. The TV speakers crackle as well. Then when I start the movie, the player sends the audio to the TV...

    Toshiba SD-5000

Thanks. I think this link to philips.com answers my first question: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/3...37_pss_eng.pdf It appears the TV can only handle 480p or 1080i. Is that right?

Why do you like BATMAN RETURNS???

My favorite moment from BR was when the campaign help put the cigarette with holder in his mouth ("reclaim your birthright"). For that one second, I was hoping he would do the "Quack, Quack, Quack" a la Burgess Meredith's portrayal. :)

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Star Trek: Insurrection - Special Collector's Edition

The problem I had with Insurrection was the forced parallel to The Voyage Home.
