For me, sitting 12' back from the 106" diagonal is perfect. You get the feeling of being at theater but not an IMAX. Any further away and you start saying "what's the point?", any closer and you start to see the pixels. But in reality, what you see are the MPEG compression artifacts (blocking)...
Just purchased the AE700 for $2K, with the $200 end user rebate the net cost is $1800 (wow). Before making the decision, I compared the AE700 to Sony's VPL-HS20 (head to head in my living room). The Panny was slightly brigher and had better contrast, and the colors were more accurate. The reds...
I have a CV sub as well and can attest to the fact that the turn on circuit is not nearly as sensitive as my SVS PB2+. Leave the unit on all the time is my suggestion. Better yet, get an SVS.

I would venture to say you would not be able to hear the gradual changes as your speakers settle into the mellow groove of conditioning. Only if you bought two pairs of speakers and "broke" one pair in while letting the other sit idle, would you be able to evaluate the difference the "break in"...

The price/performance curve for HT equipment is logarithmic. There exists a point at which you need to spend, say 50% more to get an additional 10% improvement. Then another 100% gets you the final 5%. That is why there are exotic turntables that cost 10's of thousands of dollars. I purchase my...

I tracked my PB2+ through BaxTrax and scheduled a "work from home" day on the scheduled delivery date. The Bax driver called me about an hour before he showed up on the morning of the delivery.

For the money, I love the Athena's and would buy them again. I did an A/B comparison between the AS-F2's and JBL S312's, ant the Athena's had a much better stereo image and better vocal performance. I sold my S312's on eBay. Do Athena's sound as good as a pair of speakers costing $10K? Maybe...
I am running a complete suite of Athenas through a Yammie HTR-5280. Sound is clean (maybe a little "crisp" at times - but that may be the speakers). I also have owned Sony and Pioneer receivers and think the Yammie sound is better and more musical. I would buy the new HTR-5790 since it has many...
In order to avoid scratching the side of the grill as you pry up on it - wrap the end of the screwdriver with electrical tape and use a screw driver with a broad tip (if available) to distribute the force over a larger contact area.
Very true. Unfortunately a single 1 or 2 star review draws a disproportionate amount of attention and has what I would surmise to be a much higher read rate than the positive reviews. The First Amendment ... it's a double edge sword (but I wouldn't have it any other way).
So this post indicates NO ownership, no specific review criteria, and no product comparisons. IMHO, the failure of AR to remove a post like this diminishes their credibility.
I would consider the new Yamaha HTR-5790. You can get it on-line for under $600. It has pre-outs so you can add amps in the future. The Yamaha processing and decoders work great. The internal decoders of my Sony CD changer can't hold a candle to the Yamaha's decoder. Huge sound difference. Plus...
I have a Yamaha HTR-5280 with an SVS PB2+ sub. Setting all 5 speakers connected to the receiver to "small" eliminates quite a bit of the amplifier load on the Yammie since low frequencies take a lot of juice. So the 110 WPC is more than enough to drive my Athena speakers, and the PB2+ blends...
Frank, I agree. Better at what cost? As I stated in another thread the Genelec HTS6 faired well in one reviewers evaluation, but at a cost of 10 grand for a single unit. For that I could buy 6 PB2+'s and achieve deafening results. There is always a bigger fish, but on a dollar per decibel...
Go with DLP. Plasma's are too expensive per square inch of display area and are subject to burn-in. There are many new display technologies coming out, the least of which is TI's xHD3 DLP chip. This should lower the cost of machines currently using hte HD2+ chip, which are very capable right...
The AS-C1 blends better after break in, but is not sonically identical to the AS-F2's. I have also tried a Klipsch KV-1, which is close but not any better. Luckily, my Yammy receiver has a 5 band EQ for the center channel that let's me adjust some of the difference out. Check out eBay for some...
If you can afford it, you may want to check out the Genelec HTS6 for just under $10K. According to Stereophile Ultimate AV review (June 2004), the HTS6 hit 115db at 20hz, rising (more or less in linear fashion) to 126db at 40hz, and then 131db at 80hz. The $10K price does NOT include hearing aids.
