    HD DVR alternatives?

I have Time Warner Cable and they provide this HD DVR: http://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/dct6412.asp It's the worst POS I have ever seen. It constantly freezes up, scrambles recordings, ignores the remote and on and on. And this is the 6th one that the cable company has provided. I know...

Military Jargon: What Distance is a "Click" ?

I think the term "CLICK" came from the fact that 1 click on the standard distance measuring caliper was 1 kilometer.

    My first movie

LOL that audio at the end was unintentional. It was an edit trim that got left on there and I did not notice it. My bad. Thanks a ton for all of the comments here folks. I greatly appreciate it. I re-cut it last night based on comments here and elsewhere. The zoom out in the beginning is now a...

    My first movie

Thank you both for taking the time to watch it. Your comments are fascinating to me. The only people that I have shown this to are other film makers and a typical comment is that I do not waste any time and the film gets right to the point. It's interesting that the two perspectives are...

    Welcome Jack O'Halloran!

Thanks for coming here and doing this, Mr. O'Halloran! On acting: How much research do you do for a character? How does your research differ for a fantasy character such as Non in Superman II? On writing characters: Can you describe your process on developing a new character when...

Oblivion - including The Shivering Isles

High-res Mystery house was my first adventure. The Wizard and the Princess followed that. I was hooked. Oblivion is the first game to suck me in like the old adventure games in many years.

Oblivion - including The Shivering Isles

I play Theif/ Theif - If you are of a mind to, do the Dark Brotherhood quests. REALLY nicely done.

Oblivion - including The Shivering Isles

The tip I got about the main quest line was "Wait until you are higher level". If you want to have a bit of fun, do the arena stuff in the main city. It's a real hoot. Make sure you do the quest for the orc in the arena training area first though.

It's absolutely stunning, EricW. Best game I have played in a LONG time. Damn thing sucked me in for about 6 hours last night.

Oblivion - including The Shivering Isles

OK, I picked this up. Played a bit last night. Couple observations. The NPC / Player models are ugly. That is really my only complaint so far. Other then that the visuals are truly stunning. Made it out of the sewers and headed over to the retired 'blade' guy who sent me to the town that has...

Oblivion - including The Shivering Isles

Based on what I have read, it's a single player version of WoW except that: The graphics are stunning. Leagues above what I have seen in any MMO. The NPCs are actually smart. Using tactics against you that you would not find in the MMO du jour. I watched a vid cap of a guy getting bow...

Oblivion - including The Shivering Isles

I'll pick up the 360 version at lunch. Stay tuned :) I have played a certain MMO since 98 and this will be my first single player RPG. Should be interesting.

What's the Best Movie on your Home surround system?

The opening sequence of Raiders on Laserdisc was always one of my favorites as a demo. Sadly, the DVD's sound lacks the dynamics of the LD version. The THX WoW disc was always good as well. Especially the lightstorm at the end that goes into the THX logo. Intense...

    TV Dye Lemma

That is very helpful, Nils. I am not in a hurry. I have been looking at SED as well. If I wait long enough, my eyesight should degrade to the point that I can easily lower my requirements :)

    TV Dye Lemma

DLP is not an option because of angle of view issues. I know that a lot of them do support 1080p, but alas I do not want the problems associated with DLP. The LCD displays I have seen recently did not seem to have speed issues but most defanately had screendoor effect issues... I was in Ken...

    TV Dye Lemma

Just bought a new house and I am looking to get a new display for the home theater... My criteria are these: 1920x1080 resolution. 1080p display 1080p input 50" min. diagonal. Cannot have angle of view issues. No FP technology tyvm :) My assessments of current technology: DLP...

    1080p - Should I wait?

This is exactly why I am thinking of waiting on this. None of the current displays will take a 1080p input signal. Since the difference between 1080i and p is merely and interlace issue I cannot see why it would not be able to be sent across HDMI. I am probably going to wait for SED...

    1080p - Should I wait?

I shoot video on a Sony Z1 HDV camera. It's max resolution output is 1440x1080i. I encode to 720p and 1080i in post with this and the difference between them is stunning.

    1080p - Should I wait?

So looking at what is coming out of CES and reading a lot of the articles on places like http://www.hdforindies.com/ I am coming to the conclusion that LCD TVs with 1080p inputs are going to be widely available in 06 - I am looking at 40" LCD displays now but I am thinking of waiting - thoughts?
