Denon 3802 dying...need help with the diagnosis, doctor!

Just an update: I took the Denon into my audio dealer and hooked it through the Rotel 1075 and 1095 amps. It died without the amps, and didn't die with the amps. Sounded better with the bigger amp (200x5) on Paradigm 100s (same speakers I have at home), so I decided I was going to go with the...

Denon 3802 dying...need help with the diagnosis, doctor!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm in the midst of a move (which happens to coincide with a promotion and a raise) so I'll check the wiring when I unpack my boxes, and then my plan is to borrow an amp from the local audio store to see what happens. My speakers are Paradigm Studio 100s, and I'm...

Denon 3802 dying...need help with the diagnosis, doctor!

My Denon 3802 has been acting strangely for a while, and now I think it's about to go belly-up. What happens is that it shuts itself off (into standby mode) whenever I play anything too loud. I don't mean HTF-subscriber 'too loud', I mean your-mom type of 'too loud'. In other words, with any...

    suggest reciever for paradigms

I have a similar speaker setup (Paradigm Studio 100s with CC) and am using a Velodyne HGS12 sub. I've been using a Denon 3802 to drive the system, and it's been slowly dying, so I've been considering upgrading. The Denon is 125wpc, and what I'm considering is this...does it make any sense...

Help me spend my money! McIntosh + Paradigm?

Ha! Now you're confusing me again...so it looks like I have 3 choices: 1. Buy a 2-channel amp which some of you say will make minimal difference, and some say will make a bunch of difference...expensive gamble 2. Buy a new amp as above, with a new preamp later assuming I find an affordable...

Help me spend my money! McIntosh + Paradigm?

OK, I'm confused...what I thought I'd be doing with a Denon/MA6900 combo is: 1. Listening to music with the MA6900 analog inputs 2. Listening to movies with the Denon digital inputs I think you're saying I can also listen to movies with the MA6900, but I'll have to do all of the things...

Help me spend my money! McIntosh + Paradigm?

Thanks to everyone for your great feedback. Some of you have hit the nail on the head: I want a McIntosh because I want a McIntosh! The A/V store I've purchased all of my other equipment from has this great McIntosh area up front that you walk through to get to the "rest of the stuff". The blue...

Help me spend my money! McIntosh + Paradigm?

OK, I've just gotten a big fat raise and promotion and I've decided to spend some of my hard-earned money on upgrading my sound system. Right now I have a Denon 3802 A/V receiver, Paradigm Studio 100s as my mains, and a Velodyne HGS12 as subwoofer. What I've always dreamed of is upgrading...

Did my CD player kill my receiver?

Hoo boy, this is confusing. OK, this is what's happened: 1. I ran the video signal directly from the DVD player to the TV and bingo, I have video signal. Thank you Jarvis! 2. I set up my receiver to use the optical digital cable rather than the analog signal, and I now also have audio...

    Genious, thanks!

Did my CD player kill my receiver?

Hokay, you guys are geniouses. I changed the input to VDP (whatever that is) and the CD audio plays perfectly, and nothing turns off. Hooray...CD problem fixed. Now, I discovered a new problem. The CD player is also a DVD player, and when I try to watch a DVD I don't get a picture on my...

HDTV + TiVO = Sound Delay

My TiVO (Series 2) works swell with my Pioneer Elite rear projection television unless I try to watch a HDTV broadcast. Then, although the picture is awesome, the sound lags the image by about 2 seconds. How come? Do I need another splitter to bypass TiVO if watching HDTV?

Did my CD player kill my receiver?

I have a Denon 3802 AV receiver and a Pioneer Elite 5-disc DVD/CD player...they've gotten along fine for 2 years until the other night during a song I heard a "click" and the Denon shut itself off. The only light still lit was the standby light, which was flashing. I turned it back on, and it...
