Edit: NEW lower price. I have the 600-series HT setup with about 50~75 hours on them. All black ash, all series "3". LCR 600; 6" MTM center channel, small knick in the back otherwise excellent condition. DM 602; 7" bookshelf, excellent condition. DM 601; 6" bookshelf, excellent...
Over on Madisound, Dennis Murphy (of MBOW1 fame) was looking for Extremis/OWII (crossed at 2K) input, and was pretty much told by the Extremis gurus (try HTGuide) that the Extremis would not cross that high. Thier recommendation, based on their measurements and designs, is for a 1.2K crossover -...
Domes doesnt carry B&W. You'll have to go a few more miles down 13 to Digital Sound. Ive got a complete set of B&Ws (the 600 series). Give me a PM or email for an audition (Im near NASA). I would let them go for a good price too (way under your budget). :) Rob
Anyone interested in some “lightly-used” black B&W 601s3 (pair), or an LCR-600s3? On this system, I mainly listen to 2-channel audio and the 601s are set as surrounds, and the LCR is a center - hence the “lightly used” comment. Maybe 50 hours, at most, on the speakers. Im thinking 15% off...
Between the two, the Onkyo will have the better audio quality.
Credible people with [very] high-dollar systems have not been able to hear the "lost resolution" (if it even exists). Do you think that you will be able to hear it? What system do you have?
SACD on the 975 is very good. I would NOT assume that the 875's performance is equivalent. If anything, I would assume that the 875 and the 775 are equivalent (based on the price and distribution channel). And in that respect, I doubt SACD on sony's $99 player will match SACD on sony's $399...
The speakers should be able to handle (f3) 1 octive below the crossover freq. The sub should be able to handle 1 octive above the crossover freq. Thats about 100Hz (110 actually), but try out 80Hz also since your sub probably cant integrate seemlessly at the correct value.
There are either just too many problems or just too many issues with Denons. It always seems to be something. If you are happy with yours, then great, but in no way could I recommend them.
Im interested in hoe the 6500 handles bass management for SACD and DVD-A. The the 6400 was just a re-badged Pioneer 45a, which doesnt do BM for DVD-A. I have the s-1500. I did a review of it here in this forum. For SACD, it wont do large + sub, but at least it has several crossover freqs (and...
From your post, I think the Swans will work out great. You will also have a good upgrade path to additional 2.1s or 5.2s. I know TAI just got a new shipment of speakers in stock. This is a good time. They get new stock in every 2 - 3 months, but they sell out very quickly.
Yamahas typically lean toward the bright side (but they have been getting better). If its room eq is working out for you, thats good. Also, how is your listening space? Is it warm (plush furniture, curtains, carpet) or bright (windows/glass, hardwood floors, hard furniture)? I see that you...
The 2" driver really does help in the upper-mids. As an example, if I hear the Dixie Chicks (they are definately upper-mids) on the 602s - I hear the Dixie Chicks, and they sound great. If I hear the DCs on the 5.2s - I hear the DCs (and they also sound great) AND I am able to pick out the 3...
I have the B&W 602s and the Swan 5.2&C3 (2.1 is comming soon). As for 602 vs 5.2: The 5.2 is a little more defined in the upper mids and highs. I dont know if its because of the extra 2" mid-driver, or if the tweeter is just better (2.1 has the same tweeter, but not the mid-driver). Mids...
