Matt: If what you're trying to do is play the "unfinalized" dvd from the extra unit onto the EH80 hard drive, forget it. Unfinalized discs won't play on anything except the burner that made 'em.

SteveK summed it up. I have the same machine as you do, and I make it a point to dump all my savers to DVD-R, and as soon as I know I've got a good copy off the HDD it comes. Let's face it, even with a 120 you're going to get to the same point fairly soon, so get used to transferring.

You will find with DVD Recorders a choice of speeds by which you can chose 1 hour capacity up to typically 4 hours for a disc. Each step involves a lower bit rate and commensurately lower image quality to achieve the greater capacity. My experience is that the one and two hour speeds look cable...

The Toshiba may be fine, but I really like the variable bit rate feature on the Panasonics. If I were you I would look for one with this feature.

No offense, but why would it be important to you to be able to record on - and +? Even with my computer drives that can handle both I like staying with one inventory of media.

1. Can't tell you, 2. I've never run into any kind of record control on broadcast or cable programs, and 3. I would handle any CD or DVD with respect, but having done so I've never had one skip due to scratches. Good Luck!

Can't speak specifically to your size range, but I have two Philips LCD's--a 3/4 15" and a 16/9 HD. Both have been terrific as kitchen sets--absolutely no complaints about the picture quality.
