    Best Subwoofer under $400

I haven't heard them myself but Elemental Designs is an automotive audio company which has recently moved into home audio. Their subwoofers are very competitively priced and seem to have gotten primarily kind words from users on their own forums. I haven't seen anyone mention them here or...

Problem with new (refurb) Marantz 7500

I bought the unit a couple-few months ago from AC4L.com a refurb'ed unit with the 1yr warranty. It is presently hooked up to my pc (coax digital), a pair of speakers and powered subwoofer. It worked fine out of the box, but within a week I turned it on and got no auditory output from either...

Denon 4306 and the new models recently announced

For those of us without HDTVs, and who would continue to use a new receiver with a standard tv set in the future, this wouldn't apply, right?

    Can't find a 2-ch solution for mp3 from PC

This is sounding like what I expected, that using the DAC in the sound card output to an integrated amp won't outperform digital out to an AVR (what I presently have running to the Kenwood). If I'm doing digital out, there's no real reason to upgrade the sound card right?

    Can't find a 2-ch solution for mp3 from PC

Hi all, this is about playing stereo mp3 from a pc. Posted this in Rec/Seps/Amps but didn't get all I hoped for... this might be the proper place. I've just gotta replace the old Kenwood VR-357 receiver I bought refurb'd 8ish years ago. My Question: Would an integrated amp like a Marantz...

    Can't find a 2-ch solution, considering Marantz 5600?

The rotel int-amps were/are very attractive to me as I liked the rotel sound when I was auditioning back in college. That said, I don't know of a rotel (or other) integrated amp that takes digital in. I think my only option with that situation would be to use a Y-splitter from my PC for its...

    Can't find a 2-ch solution, considering Marantz 5600?

Hi all, Long time since I've posted here but I've just gotta replace the old Kenwood VR-357 receiver I bought refurb'd 8ish years ago. My S38's want better. Presently I'm in a studio apt. My thinking was to get an integrated amp/stereo receiver (i do listen to FM) with A/B for PC music &...

Is a good reciever that important?

I have a JBL studio setup, using a Kenwood VR-357 (same as 307) that sounds like its pretty similar to yours. The center channel is dead on it and now I'm looking for a replacement... I took home a Pioneer Elite 45tx and was wowed by how much the sound opened up, and was more dynamic. I don't...

    Subwoofer or bigger speakers?

Scott, If you're looking for 312's I recommend www.harmanaudio.com as they have a great deal on 'em at the moment... I've been eyeing them myself.

    Integrated amp or stereo receiver?

Have you considered a separate amplifier? It would seem to me that if you are looking for upgradability, a decent 2ch amp would allow you to retain at least some of your investment when you get to a surround setup. I have no idea what the costs are for stereo pre-amps, tho. I suppose you could...

    cd source

Can someone please explain to me how co-ax can possibly sound better than optical for passing a digital signal to the receiver's DACs? I understand perhaps a preference for the durability of coax, but are people trying to tell me that the 10001010110101 put into either cable at one end will come...

Choosing a long-term receiver (and maybe amp)

Bump, cause this is a time-sensitive decision... Would the MM9000 be a noticable difference over an SR5400's amp section in my relatively small rooms? and would this combo be outclassed in sound quality by a Rotel 1056?

Choosing a long-term receiver (and maybe amp)

I've read everyone else's threads for a while and now it's my turn. Basically, in a year I'm going to dental school, and I won't have any money to upgrade until I'm done, unless it's a sell the old and add $100 sort of thing. I also don't want to drop more than I need before then, since I'm sure...

    500-600$ receiver

The Onkyo / Integra only has 1 coaxial input if that matters for you. Even the 6.4 only has 1... why a thousand-dollar receiver can't have 2 coax-ins is beyond me.

    45tx question

Another note is that when it ran the auto setup for me, the speakers (JBL S-38) were set to large, I manually changed them to small. A little more poking around found the crossover at 100Hz by default... per my own preferences I changed this to 80.

    45tx question

Delay is set when you run the auto-setup (MCACC or whatever). Thats why it calculates the distances of all the speakers to the listening position. Page 99 of the manual has instructions for setting it manually.

    45tx question

Wow Ken, you just made me feel like a sucker. Six hours ago I bought a floor model 45TX for $780... talked down from a posted $900. I thought I had scored a victory there :frowning: Anyways, I have 15 days where I can return it if desired. I'm seeing the 53TX around the internet, albeit...

    high-end receiver choice

Apart from the 2 extra channels, what does the 7200 offer beyond the 7000? The 7000 is being sold refurb'ed at the Harman outlet for $600. Since I'm only doing 5.1 for the forseeable future could I just save $200 on 2 unused channels?

    FS: 2 pair JBL S38, 1 S-Center

I could get some after the weekend, when my friend gets back from home (he has a digicam). For my own knowledge, are you interested in the whole setup, or just a pair, or what?

Yep. If I can move it in parts I'll do that too. Naturally I'd prefer to only make one transaction though.

    budget bookshelf speakers

I have a couple pairs of s38's and find them quite good, and they get as loud as I could care for on my old Kenwood ("rated" at 100wpc). My roommate last year liked to crank techno... I like them a lot for my rock and hip-hop. Caveat: insert cheap plug here. Since it's my first system (and...

    FS: 2 pair JBL S38, 1 S-Center

Hi all, I'm thinking of trying a Swan package, if I can recoup my costs on my current setup. I'd have to sell it all of course... so I wanted to feel it out and see if it can be done. 1 S-Center-II, barely used, maybe 10 hours over 3 months, max. My receiver's center channel amp died at the...

Incomplete JBL Studio set, what to do?

I have a 2 pairs of S38s and the SCenter, was thinking I could try something new if I could recoup my costs (I'm a student). PM me if you're interested. Mods if this is inappropriate please delete it, I'm not sure on the forum rules.
