What a day of joy for me. To wake up and read about a title like this coming out after hearing for years how bad the negative was and how the cost of restoration would just not be worth it considering projected sales. Well, I have already been on the phone with my friends and they all plan to...
I am getting rid of it. Paying more for 4k not right. Plus, I find myself on Amazon Prime, Paramount and HBO Max and Peacock, and I get all of them without commercials and I am rarely on Netflix anymore. Goodbye Netflix.
I highly doubt it. He is correct though, Elephant films also wrote to me too and said they were going to fix this, and said they were well aware of the issue. The best thing to do I think is to wait and see what Elephant Films puts out, according to them, the problem will probably be fixed and...
I have some great news to share, thanks to Martin Brousseau (posting on another site) has written to Elephant Films which plans to release Thoroughly Modern Millie, and he wrote them about the problem with the U.S. release. I then also wrote them and here is the response I got.
And I quote "Hi...
I just have to chime in and say how happy I am that the people at the Disney Club listened to us. It took a while but it seems they are on a roll now. I am finding hope that maybe I will get my Happiest Millionaire roadshow version on blu-ray finally! I am purchasing all exclusives not only to...
I agree with you both, I don't think it will have much of an effect if they are run by different departments. There is no doubt that someone came in to the home video department and I think is a fan of physical media, that is why Paramount has been releasing some great titles in the last year...
What does this mean for Physical media? Paramount has made a big mark on home video in the last 6 or 7 months, releasing many blu-rays. Will this even continue?
I scanned my DVD last night and also took a look at my recordings on the hard drive off Dish from Turner Classic Movies and Reteroplex, I think the review here is right on, I think there is a huge improvement and I was so happy with the transfer. Anyone notice the sound of Julie's voice on the...
but one is mono and one is full stereo, also same with the intermission and exit music. Surely you can hear the channel separation on the DVD, it's great stereo too.
I did write Universal myself, but it probably won't do much good unless a good number of other people write as well. I blame both companies. I am sitting here listening right now to the DVD of Millie where the overture, intermission AND exit music are in glorious stereo, and they sound...
For those asking me where I posted about Millie being in mono in the overture, intermission and exit music, it was at bluray.com, I just felt I shouldn't mention another web site here on these threads to be polite to the owners here. I just didn't yet get to the Kino thoughts thread on this site...
I have been working on this issue all day Haineshisway, I will post on the Kino thread here tomorrow. Imagine, people over "there" took me on and bad mouthed me because I was disgusted at Millie having mono overture, intermission and exit music when it's stereo everywhere else (Turner Classic...
I have watched this film on Turner Classic Movies when Julie presented it a few months ago, streamed it, watched the laserdisc, the current DVD from Universal, downloaded the film, everywhere else the overture, intermission and exit music are in stereo, beautiful full stereo. So there is no...
Here is where you can report this to Universal and I kindly ask all of you to please do this, ask them to repress this disc with the overture, interm ission and exit music in stereo as it is on the DVD, laserdisc, download, streaming and on Dish Network (TCM, Turney Classic Movies). All 3...
I did post it on the Kino thread and I have 2 people just cutting me down for making "trouble." I can't believe it. If that is how the general readers of this site feel about restored movies with mistakes, I feel sorry for everyone. First they released Sweet Charity with the intermission and...
Attention: The overture, intermission AND exit music are all in MONO! I can't believe it. The laserdisc and the DVD they are all in full beautiful stereo sound. This is a huge error that demands a recall. We've got to stick together on this MIllie fans! This is a shameful mistake!
I agree with you there too. The important thing is that something has to be done and I hope one of the two will step up to the table and issue a recall, that is how important this issue is.
I would think this is Universal's responsibility, I am sure Kino presses what they received from the studio, and something labeled a 4k transfer of the "Roadshow Edition" there is no excuse for Universal to attach the 3 parts (overture, intermission AND exit music) in mono. I justy played my DVD...
Absolutely no reason why the overture, intermission and exit music are not in stereo. In my opinion, these discs should be recalled and Universal should take responsibility for this. The picture quality on this is absolutely gorgeous, and so is the sound, even though it is matrix rather than...
I couldn't agree with you more. It is what Fox should have done with The Sound of Music, also given us the 40th anniversary dvd mix in lossless because the 6 track master had lost it's high end. With Millie it should have been 3.0 or nothing...I am as dismayed as you are.
I am very unhappy that this is in Dolby surround. Proper would have been 3.0 mag stereo. The idiocy to make a 4k restoration without restoring the soundtrack to discrete channels just pisses me off. That said i am sure this will still be a treasure on my best bluray shelf, but i will watch the...
I was watching some YouTube videos about The Sound of Music, and really paying attention to the opening scene. I was amazed at how the grass in the field was a brighter lime green, how warm her skin tones are, and how different each part of the mountains behind her look compared to the blu-ray...
I am also upset with this. This has to be one of the worst attempts to put together a stereo mix. Part of the overture sounds mono while part sounds semi-stereo. I have always been a fan of this film, and about 10 years ago I used the DVD and the original soundtrack LP, and a DVD recorder and...
It's a disappointment that not many projector makers have included Dolbyvision. This is the reason I have not replaced my projector yet. I am hoping the new JVC models which hopefully will be coming sometime soon might have it as a feature. I am also hoping that JVC adds e-shift to all of their...
If we could only get MGM and Kino to do a 4k disc of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Fiddler on the Roof, 2 films that could look glorious on 4k. But in a thread, Kino has said they have no interest in doing Chitty in 4k, but MGM is the one that released the blu-ray, so maybe they will shock us all...
Well, joy of joy, Kino finally announcing Flower Drum Song in a new 2k scan of the interpositive. Why this was not restored in 4k from the original negative is beyond me, but at least we will have a new scan of this wonderful musical. It has been shown recently on TCM and the new master is jusbt...
