As horrible as Smokey and the Bandit part 3 is according to IMDB the film was first known as Smokey is the Bandit and that preview audiences got confused as to what was happening in the picture. So Jerry Reed was asked back to play The Bandit. At least Burt Reynolds did a cameo at the end.
