Scan lines with PS DVD player

So is this typical of all DVD players, or just lower end units? Thanks for the info.

Scan lines with PS DVD player

I just recently bought a Sony DVD recorder with progressive scan, this is my first ps unit. When I am watching some DVD's, I can see obvious scan lines momentarily. It seems to be tied in only with movement on the screen. Also, it only does it on some discs, so I'm assuming it's related to...

New Sony DVD Player's picture is dark.

What I meant that was strange was that the picture was dark, even with PS off. In theory, if it was off, my TV's picture should have looked exactly the same as it did with my old player.

    Dish or Direct Satellite HD

I have only had a 5.1 capable box (Dish) for about 6 months now, but in that time I have not noticed any problems with 5.1, it has always sounded great to me. However it's worth noting that not all programs are broadcast in 5.1. My box has an optical out for DD.

New Sony DVD Player's picture is dark.

Thanks for the ideas lads....turns out it was a setting in my tv. There is a setting that I have never been able to change before called "Color Matrix". The two choices are "SD" and "HD". What I learned in my manual yesterday is that it is only selectable with a 480p signal. My old DVD player...

New Sony DVD Player's picture is dark.

I just bought a Sony RDR-GX355 recorder yesterday. It is replacing another Sony player that is about 4-5 years old. I set it up last night and the picture is very dark. I put my DVE disk in to recalibrate it and had to turn the brightness up all the way and it still isn't enough per DVE...

    Aspect Ratio issues

Not yet, but I suppose I should. I have been hesitant about calling them because last time I had a question they were totally useless. I predict a "take it to an autorized service center" type answer.

    Aspect Ratio issues

Nope, it's plugged into a power strip that always has power. The strange thing is that every other adjustment I make in the menu, stays the way I set it, even if I unplug the TV.

    Aspect Ratio issues

Let me start off by saying I kind of doubt there is a solution to my problem, but I thought I would ask anyway. I have a Panisonic 32" CRT 4:3 HDTV. Just this week I finally got a Dishnetwork HD reciever. In order for my HD and non HD channels to be in the proper aspect ratio, I have to set...

    Progressive Scan Question

I guess since I am a greenhorn, and don't have anything to compare it to, I won't know if mine is good or bad, correct?

    Progressive Scan Question

Cool, now I can quit dwelling on the fact that I should have bought a P.S. DVD player (my wife will also be happy, no more whining from me:) ) Now what about my second question. Does it do this to all sources going into my TV (i.e. satellite), or only those using the component input...

    Progressive Scan Question

Howdy, I have a Panasonic CT-32HXC43 HDTV monitor. In the manual, in section describing how to hook up a HD tuner or DVD player it says (this is the second paragraph, I’m thinking the first is irrelevant to my question): “This television also utilizes a progressive scan doubler, which...

    Power Amp Fuse ?

Howdy, I have an old Pioneer GMH-100 (or GM-100?) power amp in my truck. It was supplied with a 10 or 12 gauge power wire and an inline 30 amp fuse. My fuse housing has fallen apart and I want to replace it. I am curious if they use the inline glass fuses for a reason, or could I use a 30 amp...

Am I on crack, or is INTERLACED better than PROGRESSIVE???

Okay now I'm getting confused. I don't have a progressive scan DVD player, but ever since I bought a Panasonic HDTV, I have been dwelling on the fact that I sould have bought a progressive scan. Are you guys saying that I probably wouldn't see a difference if I got a p.s. player? If so, I...

    Subwoofer Connection Debate - Help

I also have a Polk system and it confused me too at first, but the their recomendations are correct. Also, like already stated, if you set the receiver's sub option to "no", and the fronts to large, the reciever's bass redirection circuitry will send the bass (LFE) signal to the sub via the...

    Anamorphic DVD ?'s

I have no problem with the black bars. As I understand it, an anamorphic widescreen DVD (vs. a non-anamorphic widescreen DVD) doesn't waste any scan lines creating the black bars, all scan lines are used for the picture (is this correct?) So, I was just wondering if this benefit is only on a...

    Anamorphic DVD ?'s

Yup, that makes sense. I guess I'll lose that warm fuzzy fealing I had about my DVD's that are anamorphic. Thanks guys.

    Anamorphic DVD ?'s

Hello, I got a "newbie" style question. I was reading the explaination on anamorphic DVD's found at digitalbits site (sorry, I'm not allowed to link to it, I'm too new to the board) I found the link in the "new to home theater primer" section under "letterboxed DVD's". If I'm understanding...

Poor picture quality from DBS on new TV

Aren't there only a few HD satellite channels that require a special subscription? Wouldn't all of the other channels (non HD) be the same?? Or am I missing something?

Poor picture quality from DBS on new TV

You're right, its a curse and my wife doesn't understand. While we're on the subject of DBS and HD, do you guys know of any drawbacks of those "all in one" DBS HDTV tuners? And, the picture quality of the DBS in those units wouldn't be any better than a regular DBS reciever's picture would it?

Poor picture quality from DBS on new TV

Thanks for the replies guys. I do plan on HD within the next year or so. I guess I'm just going to have to stop dwelling on the picture for now.

Poor picture quality from DBS on new TV

Howdy, Great site, I just found it yesterday, lots of good info, I've got a lot of reading to do.:) I recently bought a Panasonic CT-32HXC43. It is a 32" 4:3 HDTV ready monitor. When I play DVDs, the picture is great, but when I watch satellite, the picture doesn't look so good... I have the...
