Decided on the Denon AVR 3805 7.1 Channel 120 Watts per Channel A/V Receiver. I found too many forum chat rooms discussing the difficulty of getting Net Tunes to work. The Denon AVR3805 has features that rival the top end $4k systems. Just can’t beat the value. Regards, -jb
Thanks for the input. You guys are an amazing resource, worth more than twice your weight in DLP chips. Screens: fixed vs. electric. Since I am in the market for a screen, I have been eyeing the screens in the offices at work (not to steal, but simply assessing quality, conformation, etc.)...
Building a new home and decided to use the BIC in-walls for background music throughout the home. They seem to be a perfect solution for the balance of price and performance. -jb
I was briefly interested in the Onkyo TX-NR901, primarily for the Net-Tune option. As opposed to other manufactures who allow access to the PDF operating manual on-line, I had to send away and purchase this operating manual. If anyone would like the manual, please e-mail me with an address and...
Gabriel, Thanks for your reply. I just reviewed a 12k and the thing is huge!!! I mean the projector is gigantic. I was going to go with a Chief SL-150 lift, but the 12k doesn’t even fit into it! Additionally I could not get a positive review on the Chief lift, and have thus decided on a...
Seems like most projectors are designed to give a diag 106” picture at about 14-15 feet, which is about the distance you should be seated from the screen for this size image. In other words, the projector has to be over your head or in your lap which is not the best in terms of projector fan...
Tony, I am also interested in an HD2+ machine, but want a long thrown (diag 106” at greater than 16’). Screenplay does this but for the Marantz it will cost an additional 5k (long throw version). Many people in these forums are trying to make a nice HT with a DLP/LCD machine costing one tenth...
While you’re at it, how about the Sony KDF-70XBR950. Does anyone have experience with this model or know where it has beeen reviewed? Viewed it in the store and it looks very nice. Regards -jb
Dear Neil, Thanks for the input. Just to make all information available to anyone reading this post, checkout user opinion at Projector Central about the 12K, from a professional installer,(http://www.projectorcentral.com/part...pinion_id=3265) where it is described as a “jet taking off”. At...
Gabriel, I cannot tell you how helpful your assessment is for me. I am concerned that sound is going to be an issue since my ceiling is 7’ 10” and the projector will be close to our heads. I am specifically looking for long throw projectors so that I can mount the projector about 3-4 feet...
Both systems (D-ILA vs. Hd2+) are at the same price point. Any preferences or thoughts comparing these two beauties? Is the Dukane better at minimizing rainbow effect? How about fan noise? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. -jb
Lou, Excellent point and I appreciate your incite. I guess the question is, confining our discussion to the video aspect of HT (using DVI input), where is the 2k best spent. I assume a fixed flat screen is as good as an electric tensioned screen which costs 2.5x as much (of course you are...
Chris, Would greatly appreciate if you could further elaborate on the Sharp 12000. I am interested in a projector at the 5-7k range which would include the Sharp. I hear complaints about loud fan noise. Thus I am planning on mounting about 2 feet behind the seating. Sounds like most...
Orlando, Who makes your hushbox, and what is it’s design? I have a low ceiling height and plan on using an electric lift. Any experience or recommendations with projectors in the 5-7K range? I am thinking about the Sharp 12000, although I heard complaints of loud fan noise. Regards, -jb
John, I decided to do what you describe. I am using a Russound ALTx-WIRi 2D infrared volume controller in each room. Panning on a A/V Denon 3805 with three zone ability. This way, although it is not a complete indepedent zone set-up, will provide for plenty of flexibility. Regards, -jb
I am interested in whole home audio (about 6 listening zones). This is new construction with plans for a wired computer network. Most systems for independent audio zone control are very pricy and/or complex (Arrakis DC-6, Zon audio, Fireball). I have settled for whole home single audio, with...
Steve, Outstanding advice!! I will have my contractor frame out the speaker wells, with extra joists and extra nails on the dry wall in the speaker area. I really appreciate your input as this may certainly save me trouble down the road. Many regards, Jerome
Great thread, Thanks for all the great info on selecting a screen size. Speaking of screens, how important is the screen in determining overall picture quality? For the type of FPs described above (ranging up to DLP HD2 or HD2+ machines), is a routine Da-Lite Da-Mat sufficient? Do any of the...
Steve, I’m in the process of building a house and plan on plenty of in-ceiling speakers. Most of the speakers seem to simply have a mechanism where by they clamp onto the dry wall cut out, without need for an in-joist mount. Where does your vibration noise come from? When placing an...
Thanks for the excellent advice. Question: In trying to optimize picture quality, any thoughts on which projector type is better: DLP vs. LCD. Is a three chip LCD better than a single chip (HD2+) DLP? Since there is a color wheel with the DLP, is this projector more likely to cause headaches...
How did you decide on screen finish? In regards to screens if I could ask: does screen material matter that much? Would a routine Da-Lite Da-Mat finish be reasonable for most applications I am considering a permanent fixed wall mount (16:9 about 100¨ diag) and the Da-Lite choices cause my...
Gentleman, In regards to screens if I could ask: does screen material matter that much? Would a routine Da-Lite Da-Mat finish be reasonable for most applications? I am considering a permanent fixed wall mount (16:9 about 100¨ diag) and the Da-Lite choices cause my vision to go blurry...
Thank you for all the advice. Projector central has a nice article on recommended screen size, outlining many of the points people have described in this thread; main page under projector reviews: "08/20/03 - How big should your home theater screen be?" Question: In trying to optimize picture...
Adam, Excellent advice, but as I am planning my HT, as a newbie my greatest fear is having difficulty aligning my projector and setting the contrast ratios properly. If your projector image does not fit your screen perfectly, will the black edge matting take care of this, or will I forever...
Frank, Congratulations. Very nice home setup. How did you decide on a screen size? At a seating distance of 12-15 feet I figure I can go with 45x80, 50x89 or 60x107. But before I put down the money for a screen I assume I should play with my projector and determine my personal screen size...
Keith & Frank, How did you decide on the HS20? I know it has received rave reviews. Did you consider a DLP projector such as BenQ? What screens are you using? Cheers, -jerry
Recently spoke with a professional HT company (way over the top, wanted 25K for a bare bones system!!) but never the less I did get some info. In regards to center channel he favored below screen mount with upward tilt. He was not as enamored with the audio screens. In regards to screens if I...
Jim, Nice setup. I am also grapping with projector placement issues. It seems that you would certainly want the projector either above or behind you but not in front of you, nor in your peripheral field of view. Projector central has a nice automated calculator to determine placement of...
Thank you for the advice regarding FP. Given that DVD represents an excellent format for FP, would you recommend a DVD player with direct digital output (DVI) such as the Samsung DVD-HD931 or Pioneer DV59-AVi with HDMI connectivity? Does keeping your video signal in the digital domain worth the...
