    Surround Sound Bars

Zach, are you still around? I know I'm bringing this topic up from the dead, but was hoping to get your impressions on the YSP-800 now that you've been using it for nearly 8 months. I've currently got a decent 5.1 setup, but the speakers are almost overkill for my room, and the allure of a...

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

Here's the product page for the switch and the volume control: http://www.hometechaudio.com/pages/electr.asp Unfortunately, it doesn't give too many details about the products themselves and whether they are impedance-matching. I'll have to check the packaging when I get home.

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

So you're saying I can go with parallel wiring and not worry about overloading my amp? Also, I am controlling four speakers with the one volume control, but the control is really only built for controlling two speakers (left and right).

No idea! That's why I came here for help with all this! :)

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

I'll try switching over to parallel wiring and see if my receiver heats up at all.

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

Yes, I'm using the selector. It is a four-room selector, with two speakers per room. I've wired my speakers in series because I wanted to connect four speakers up to one room selection. I could have wired two speakers to one room selection, and the other two to another room selection, but I've...

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

I wired them in series, 2 for the left channel, and 2 for the right channel. They are 8ohm speakers. My receiver can handle a min. load of 8ohms, so I had to go series instead of parallel. Or do you think I could get away with parallel wiring? It's my understanding that most receivers can handle...

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

Ok, I've got everything wired up and working. Thanks for all the info! Just one question. Why is the volume in my second room so much lower than in my main room? When watching tv, my volume is normally set anywhere from 30-40. When I switch over to my second room, I've got to crank it up over...

    Recommendations on small, cheap speakers?

Best Buy also has some smaller Insignia speakers. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1118843685964 Gave them a listen the other day at Best Buy. They didn't sound all that bad for as little and cheap as they are. They didn't compare to some of the more expensive satellites, but at...

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

No, I've definitely got B speaker-set. A/B button is right on the front of the receiver. What I don't have is a "2nd Room" output. I think that was exclusive to the STR-DE985 (a step up from my receiver).

    Recommendations on small, cheap speakers?

Thanks for the link! Good price. Might work well for upstairs dining/living room, but at 13lbs and 18"x12", they're a bit too big for wall-mounting (in my opinion).

    Recommendations on small, cheap speakers?

Got a link for those? I checked out the Insignia's, but was a bit leary of anything branded by Best Buy as being quality. Should also mention I'm looking for something wall-mountable and not too big; satellite's would be preferable.

    Recommendations on small, cheap speakers?

Just looking for some small speakers for music-only in secondary rooms (not main home theater area). Checked out www.partsexpress.com and they have some Dayton satellites at about $30/pr. Think those would be sufficient for living/bed/dining rooms?

    Wiring additional rooms for sound

Not sure if I'm posting in the proper area. If not, feel free to move it where it belongs! Here's what I'm wanting to do. I've got a home theater area already wired and functional located in one half of my basement. Receiver is Sony STR-DE885. The other half of my basement is pre-wired for...

    Advice on these eBay speakers?

Well, I do throw quite a few parties and events, and the pool room tends to become the center for socializing and such. I want the music to sound decent enough for that kind of scenario. I actually think I may go with some Athena WS-15 satellite speakers. My main home theater area uses all...

    Advice on these eBay speakers?

I've got a pool room that's wired for speakers in every corner. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on this, just want to get some speakers in there to extend the music and tv from my main theater area. So I checked eBay first for in-wall speakers, and found these...

    Basement design

Curt, when I started my basement, I actually downloaded a 3D design program and spent a good bit of time using the program to lay my basement out to spec. It was a great help, and the end result was spot-on to what I had designed. Might wanna look into something like that. Here are the...

    Wall mounts for Athena AS-B1's?

That's actually what I ended up doing, and it looks pretty good. Found the shelf at Lowe's, and it blends in perfectly with the rest of the woodwork. Would still like to get the other speaker up to the same height as the shelved speaker, but it's sitting on the desk until I find something...

    Remote-controlled blinds?

I hope someone can help me out and educate me on my options as far as remote-controlled/motorized window blinds. Now, it's my understanding that I can purchase the motor/control unit completely seperate from the blinds themselves, and that the unit will work with most makes/styles of blinds...

Some in-progress pics of my home theater

Thanks! It's a 2 or 3 step process. You'll need: Base coat of paint Top coat of paint glaze mixture plastic dropcloths The lighter of the two colors is the base coat, painted on and dried. Once dry, you apply the top coat, which is a mixture of whatever color you want, and a glazing...

    thoughts on wireless speakers?

Not going far at all. Going from the TV area, over to the pooltable room: Not that it matters, but the pool table and home theater area have been swapped since the rendering was done. Actually, I might just go ahead and wire up some speakers. Found some fairly inexpensive in-wall...

    thoughts on wireless speakers?

Anyone know anything about wireless speakers? I'd like to extend my audio from the home-theater area over into the "pool hall", without running cables. I know wireless speakers aren't gonna be the best quality in terms of audio, but they should be relatively simple to setup, and would be an easy...

Some in-progress pics of my home theater

The velcro makes it extremely easy to manage your cables, while having everything right in front of you and labeled. Also very easy to add/remove cables. Yes, the walls are a faux paint finish (took forever but looks beautiful). My home theater is pretty much finished now, with the exception...

    Wall mounts for Athena AS-B1's?

You happen to know off-hand the price of the Vogel's per pair? I found a place locally that sells them, but haven't made it out there yet. Also came across these online: http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebComme...KU=50-5410&N=0 Those are only $25/piece and look like they'd work. Kinda looks...

I'm having way too much fun with this :D I'm nowhere near done, but it'll be beautiful when I am! I just wanted to share some pics here, since I've spent a lot of time here on the forum learning stuff. Anyway, let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions! This is where the tv and...

    Wall mounts for Athena AS-B1's?

I'm finally moving out of my apartment and into a home with a more proper HT area (the basement). Anyway, I haven't quite decided what I'm gonna do about positioning the rear surrounds. Here's a pic of the rear of the room: Bose surrounds are gone; belonged to the previous owner and I just...

New to projectors...any tips or advice?

I'm moving soon into a house that I've already put an extensive amount of work into the basement. It's fully prepped for a home-theater. Problem is, my 34" Wega just isn't gonna cut it in that big room. So I'm looking into a projector instead. I'm new to projectors, and have no idea what I...

    Bose center vs Athena...any thoughts?

I now have B1 surrounds, B2 fronts, and a C1 center :) Still need a decent sub (currently have a Sony SA-WM20 sub...not much). The B1's sound great; I watched Lost in Translation (DTS) last night. It's got an incredible soundtrack and it sounded phenomenal on my new Athena setup. You think I...

    Bose center vs Athena...any thoughts?

Just got back from Best Buy, where I picked up a set of Athena AS-B1's for $89! I've already sold my Bose 161's and I've got my Bose VCS-10 on eBay at the moment. Thanks for all the info guys!
