New Joss Whedon show announced: Dollhouse

Rossum was also referenced on "Batman: The Animated Series" as the name of the man who invented the evil Robots that try to replace important officials in Gotham City (unbeknownedst to the inventor). The casting of that character was itself a reference to the robot inventor in "Blade Runner"...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

I think Geordi's "coolant leak" bit is from "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1". Him yelling that into the camera always amuses me. By the way, the answer to my trivia question was Brian Brophy. I just thought it was cool that the guy who ultimately makes the decision to free Morgan Freeman's...

New Joss Whedon show announced: Dollhouse

How about "I made this!"? I find that enthusiastic child's voice soothing after a really freaky X-Files episode. Also, I'm glad Dollhouse was renewed. I thought the season finale was a little disappointing, but everything from episode 6 to the one right before the season finale was aces.

Star Trek The Next Generation appreciation thread

Actually, I think a lot of fans (including myself) would agree with you about season 3. I think it is the best season overall in terms of consistency from episode to episode. Some of the universally agreed upon best episodes of the series (i.e. "Yesterday's Enterprise" and "The Best of Both...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

All right, I'll give everyone a clue. What initially got me so excited about this question was the irony of the role of the actor I recognized. I've since discovered that there were several former TNG guest stars in the movie (including Bob Gunton), but what's interesting about the particular...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

All right, I realize this is cheating a little, but I was inspired to resurrect this thread to put out a trivia question to all the Star Trek fans out there, even though I can't answer the last one asked in it. Maybe some genius out there can answer both. I was watching "The Shawshank...

    Family Guy Season Seven

"You, sir, are worse then Hitler" was a funny line on The Simpsons many, many years ago. It's what Patty and Selma's boss at the D.M.V says to Homer after he pretends he was smoking their two cigarettes (to keep them from getting in trouble as a sweet gesture towards Marge). I abandoned "Family...

    "X-Men" trilogy re-release

Thanks, Travis. Do you know if those new featurettes were made recently, or "vintage" from when the movie came out? The original standard DVD release wasn't the theatrical cut?!? How could that be?

Watching a movie that turns out bad

I'm very rarely capable of turning off something I've paid money for. I'm afraid I would feel too guilty. There are a few exceptions. I don't buy movies that I've never seen before, but I have rented or borrowed movies from friends that I lost interest in or grew to hate along the way. In most...

    "X-Men" trilogy re-release

I would appreciate it if someone would answer this question. I just bought Fight the Future recently as it was on sale. I assumed it was on sale because it was being discontinued due to the imminent blu-ray release as part of a two pack with the sequel, but I never heard about the two pack...

    The Office season 5

I don't think they really have a choice about whether to bring Holly back or not. It depends on whether Amy Ryan is free, which I doubt, since she's busy making movies (supposedly the reason they wrote Holly off the show in the first place). It's a shame...she's definitely my favourite...

    Best Films of the "Decade:"

Me too. I think it's really underrated and deserved to win best picture. My personal pick would have been Adaptation, but of the movies that were nominated for best picture that year, I thought it was the one most worthy of that honour. I figure "Chicago" won over it simply for being less...

Star Trek The Next Generation returns to broadcast syndication

I don't know what you're referring to specifically, but if something happened during the first season that "shook up" the show and lead to it being significantly different from that season, I think it was for the better. Aside from "Datalore", I find the first season pretty much unwatchable. The...

New editions of 4 Muppet movies coming soon! Widescreen confirmed.

For those here that own it, what's your opinion of the currently available "The Muppets Take Manhattan" DVD? Is it as good quality as it's ever going to be, or is there room for improvement (and therefore, theoretically a possibility it may receive a new edition someday too)?

    R.I.P. Robert Mulligan, 1925-2008

Yes! I agree wholeheartedly! I just watched "Freeway" for the first time recently and I loved it so much that I bought it shortly after, which is something I rarely do (it usually takes awhile before I decide I liked a movie enough to want to own a copy). In my opinion, it is one of the most...

    R.I.P. Robert Mulligan, 1925-2008

Speaking of underrated gems, I recommend "The Man in the Moon" to anyone who hasn't seen it. Coincidentally, I just rented it (I'd been interested in it for awhile) the other week and was very impressed. It was nice to see a simple, straightforward, and plausible love story with realistic...

    RIP Star Trek's Majel Barrett

I think that was the first time I really liked this chracter. I always found her too irritating in "TNG" episodes, although I enjoyed the way some of the characters (particularly Picard) would react to how overbearing she was. I know it won't matter (especially if it makes a lot of money), but I...

Star Trek The Next Generation appreciation thread

Yeah, when I mention Q I don't mean he has to be a traditional villain who antagonizes/fights with them. I imagined him doing something like testing them, as he would on the show. Yes, he became more comedic over time, but in his first few appearances on the show, he was always posing some moral...

Star Trek The Next Generation appreciation thread

People say one of the reasons "Nemesis" was bad was because it was ripping off "Wrath of Khan", but not well. I agree because I think its villain was trying to be a really threatening enemy specifically focused on the captain, but he wasn't as convincing as Khan since, unlike Khan, he and the...

    The Simpsons Movie (2007)

    The Simpsons Movie (2007)

I wouldn't bother watching recent episodes on account of the movie's quality. The movie was better than the show has been in a long time. By the way, while the word she says in the movie was the first word the family ever heard Maggie say, technically her first word was "Daddy" in the season 4...

SHOCKED: Movies that don't have special editions yet

I just want to know what happened to the Adaptation special edition. I heard it was advertised on the "Work Of Spike Jonze" DVD, but haven't heard anything about it since. The movie is 5 years old now. I hope we don't have to wait another 5 years for an "anniversary edition".

Roger Ebert reviewing again in 2007 (Passed Away: See Post #158)

Ebert is a big fan and close friend of Scorsese. As a result, he has a tendency to get carried away praising and analyzing Scorsese's career and philosophies when he reviews the guy's work since he is so intruigued by the man and his movies. Doing that took up space in the review that could have...

Roger Ebert posted a review of The Departed this week because he was still recovering from surgery when it was released: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...VIEWS/70705002 I'm really glad he did, because this movie and Casino Royale were the two I was most disappointed he could not review...
