the full report can be read here: http://www.dvdreview.com/html/vsda_2006.html here are some interesting snippets about both formats: HD DVD:
note that the bad review on HD DVD is about the marketing strategy, for BD is about the quality of BD itself.
It works but only if I choose the HD DVD from the list Steve posted. Regardless. Cheap HD DVD = good. I don't have a player yet though (I'm still waiting for BD supposed superiority to come to fruition, really. Also I don't want to buy any Toshiba or Toshiba-based optical player anymore)...
It's funny that some people have bad luck with certain brands. With me I've had 100% failure rate with multiple Samsung HD RPTV and 10% failure rate with multiple Toshiba DVD players and recorders. Toshiba TV, on the other hand, I've had no problem whatsoever. The same goes with my Panasonic...
The ones that are not Toshiba or Toshiba-based, of course. I'm too leery in buying another Toshiba product because I've never had any good experience with Toshiba DVD players and recorders.
now it's time for me to vanguish my hope to get my hands on PS3 for BD playback capability. good picture quality expectation from current BD: vanguished 50 Gb BD: vanguished (for the time being) PS 3 as a BD player: vanguished time to move over to HD DVD. But that's a different evil...
LOL! But the recompression will take more time and having tried that (to fit more movies on a single DVD-R for my in-car DVD player), even at 46" 16:9 at double screen-width viewing distance, the difference is (to me) night and day.
"expectation" "potential" "wait until (fill in the blank here)" seem to be the keywords in describing BD. At this rate and the price of players, BD has a LOT of catching up to do... and FAST.
sorry, double post. But cool titles though. I love: Finding Neverland [HD DVD] w/DTS-HD 5.1 The Brothers Grimm [HD DVD] Equilibrium [HD DVD] Too bad so far the only palyer is a Toshiba (or Toshiba derivatives such as RCA)
Between the 10-minute long unskippable motion main menu (well it FEELS like it's 10 minutes long, and sometimes with spoilers right there in your face), FBI warnings, ads and forced trailers. I no longer watch my original DVD. Everytime I buy a DVD (I don't rent), I extract it to my PC and...
I personally think that Disney is the one company that doesn't give a damn the most (if that's even a sentence). Not only for their movie DVD. Even for their 50th anniversary WDW 4-park DVD set (US$80 plus shipping -- only available from WDW Florida) they look like they've been recorded 10...
I personally think that 3 layers is going to be difficult to read in the future. Certain regular DVD players have problem with layer switching or sometimes the 1st layer peeled of fromt he 2nds layer. I can only imagine the horror with the addition of the 3rd layer. Regardless, the capability...
oh right, I should've bit my tongue. I have to "wait for a few more months until BD reaches its full potential" just like when I had to "wait until BD is released, it'll smoked HD DVD to the ground". :p
From personal experience: the data is safe for at least 5 years. That's how long I've been using DVD-R. For CD-R, the daya is safe for at least 10 years (if you use good media, record at a slower speed) or max of 1 year (if you use cheap media, record at high speed) Please note that all my...
