Did you run the Audssey setup in your room?
Try turning Audssey off and see if you like it better. I can't tell you exactly how to do that since all my stuff is packed away at the moment (long story :() and it's newer so who knows.... And I agree, this thing is really old. It probably has...
For sale: SVS PC-2000 sub. Purchased in 2014 and used a few times a month until last year when I had break up my home theater :(
Asking $475. Local pickup only (Harrisburg PA area).
I think it is somewhere in between. The ability to measure your system is great but what are you going to do with that information? Next you're spending even more to get the sound just a little better (or worse depending on your perspective).
I used mine strictly for speaker placement and...
The MiniDSP UMIC-1 plugs directly into your computer. It is calibrated at the factory and comes with a profile you can load into your software. Without the calibration you have no idea if what the mic thinks it hears is accurate.
There are a few software packages you can use. There's a free...
Instead of buying 'a better player' why not invest in a couple decent bookshelf speakers. The sound will be better and you won't have to manipulate things so much to get sound out of the TV speakers.
FYI - The 8 positions should all be close to the primary listening position (and your first mic location). They shouldn't be more than a foot or 2 apart.
Receivers tend to have gimachs like 'sound restorer' or some other silly name that usually just makes things louder. It is not possible to make it sound a whole lot better since there's so much missing from the source (compression often means dropping things to make it smaller - things like...
Quality and streaming don't really go together (IMO). The better your system the more you will hear all of the flaws. If your source is good, then yes, an AVR and some good speakers will sound much better than any Sonos or BO$E.
What's your budget?
Audyssey doesn't necessarily set the center and surrounds wrong, it's just not your preference. "Technically" they should be correct (or your mic placement wasn't optimal).
Audyssey passes along to the AVR what it finds. The AVR then decides what to do withe speakers. In many cases that...
Because some are setup for dolby, some are for dts, and many are for taking 2 channel and making it fake surround. And the reason you don't see the same thing you seen with your Sony is because Sony is marketed toward folks who know nothing and like fake sound fields. While Denon includes some...
The Denon to English website hasn't been updated in years but there's still great info on it for Denon owners. The 1912 is pretty old so I would think most of the contents on that site would be perfect for your situation.
In YOUR room.
For the responses, wouldn't you want to know if you asked to do something that was suboptimal? In ceiling speakers are for supermarkets, not home theater. Sure you can do it, but why? Perhaps the OP will still go ahead but at least now he knows the compromise he is making.
Take some time to listen to the speakers if you haven't. It is very hard to tell from reviews if you will like them. Also, if you are going to order online why not check out on-line only brands like SVS and Axiom (or even cheaper ones like Fluance).
Off topic but the new Who album if freaking amazing. I wasn't expecting much and this new music just blows me away.
Back on topic I finally had enough of the horribly buggy DASH Radio app and the awful DJ's. I decided to give Sirius another shot only this time using just the app. So far I...
*Assuming you are going to use the TV apps for Netflix and PRIME? If so, then John's answer may not be as cut and dry as it seems. I'm not sure if there are TVs that will pass ATMOS to the AVR. I highly recommend getting an external source for your streaming (Roku, Shield TV, Apple TV, etc)...
You are the first person I've ever heard say that about Sony. But, if you like it, you like it. It is your opinion. I would strongly disagree with your opinion but I'd never tell anyone to not buy what they like (but I would strongly suggest they listen to other systems first :) ).
I'm not saying Leon is wrong, I just want to now the reasons behind his statement. Personally I don't have anything made by Sony any more. For me they seem to cater to lower end closed systems that can't be upgraded. Plus, the few Sony products I have owned didn't last (mainly DVD players and...
You room (with the front 5' removed for the closet) is only a few feet longer than mine. There's no way I can put 3 couches in here. It looks like it should work on paper but there's no way I'd do it (my room is 11x20). Also, if you plan to use rear speakers you need space between them on...
