Dvd-audio and sacd can not be transmitted through the digital out, except for firewire which the pm7000 does not accept. Because the dvd player will be outputting its signal through analog rca cables it's dac will be used, making it worthwhile to go with a good player. A good general rule for a...
I am by no means an expert, but isn't close to flat in room frequency response the goal of a good home theater? And won't adjusting the tone controls cause peaks and dips in the in room frequency response when being adjusted without using an spl meter and variable test tones or a frequency...
In my opinion pioneer receivers are an excellent match for athena speakers. I have as-f1's and had previously had them matched up with a pioneer 812 and it sounded pretty good, a tad on the bright side for me though. I just recently hooked up my new elite 56txi, now I would describe the sound...
I have 2 as-p400's in my home theater setup. You are correct that it is a great sub for music. The bass is tight and Dons't tend to get boomy unless the sub volume is put too high. If it is being used mostly for music and you don't listen to music very loud I, would defiantly recommend this sub.
I guess the subsonic10 is not a popular sub among forum members. This worries me, if it were a good sub I figure more people would know about it. I've heard the lower end PSB subs, sub5i and sub6i, and was impressed. I was hoping their higher end subs carried the same value to performance ratio.
How do these subs compare. Both use multiple 12" drivers, the the PSB has a 500w amp and weighs 105lbs(comparable to the SVS). The retail price of the subsonic10 is much higher than that of the PB2+, but here in Canada I can get the PSB sub for allot less than the SVS. Do you think it's worth...
The Subsonic10 retails for $2000 and the Sub6i retails for $750. I am considering these two options because I can get close to dealers cost on PSB. My room is fairly large, 24x24x9. Right now I have 2 Athena AS-P400's and would like to upgrade. My question is would the additional cost of the...
The main reason I want the 56TXi is for the i-link because I have the 47Ai dvd player. Plus I think it will make a big difference in sound quality over my vsx-d812. I have quite a large room 4000cu ft and find I can't listen to movies at the level I would like to. When I listen at about 10-12db...
I can get this receiver for a really good price but there aren't any dealers nearby that have one that I can listen to. If it sounds similar to the 55TXi than I will get It because it has all the features I want and I love the sound of the 55TXi.
Do I need a special firewire cable to connect my Elite DV-47Ai to an i-link equiped reciever or just an ordinary fire wire cable that I would use to connect my digital camcorder to my computer?
The 3.52cu ft is the volume I calculated for a ported box. I got this figure by using the theile-small parameters for the sub (Qts=.41, Fs=30Hz, Vas=1.02cu ft). I haven't built the box yet but for a sealed box the sub works best in a 0.5-.08cu ft box according to alpine. If I do go with a sealed...

I am building a subwoofer box for my vw jetta. I will be putting 3 Alpine Type R subwoofers in it powered by the 1000W Alpine mrdm1000 amp. I calculated the internal box volume to be about 3.5ft2. I would like to use slot ports. My questions are how many ports should I use, and what frequency...
Here in Canada these 2 options are about the same price (the svs is a little more by $100-$200). Which one would be a better value? my room is 24'x 24', I currently have two Athena AS-P400's (10" 100w) and am not getting the bass output that I would like. I am hoping that one these options will...
I am looking for a bass test disk that has chapter stops at various frequencies. I have DVE but all it has is frequency sweeps. I usually shop on amazon.ca and found one disk "Autosound 2000 Bass CD #101" but it is out of stock. Where can I buy this disk or another one like it online or not, I...
Are you using the system for music only or for movies as well? What kind of amp are you using to run the speakers? although those are both very efficient speakers they use large bass drivers so you would like to use an amp with sufficient current so the bass is not sloppy. If you are only using...
Thanks guys, I just ordered DVE because I am planing to upgrade to 7.1 in a few months so those extra test tones for the rear channels will be usefull for me. Now I need to go to radio shack and get my SPL meter!!!
I was about to purchase the DVE setup disk from amazon.ca (I live in Canada) before I did I read a few reviews and allot of them were saying that it does not describe what to do with the various test tones and test patterns. I am relatively new too home theater and am afraid I will get the disk...
You could even try an integrated amp for even better sound quality if you listen to 100% CD's and don't need a tuner, and if you ever want a tuner in the future you could always add one. If your spending $1000 on the speakers you should spend about the same on an amp($500-1000) and cd...
