Anyone import CDs from foreign Amazon companies?

I have also ordered from Amazon.co.uk (I'm in the US) and didn't have to pay any duties. In fact shipping was pretty quick, although the Dollar was down against the Pound at the time :frowning:

    Mallrats 10th Anniversary Edition

I'm with Mike on this one. Mallrats is a great DVD already, no need for a double dip just because of an annniversary. Enough is enough. -Ben

    Clerks X: Missing sound cues?

No, it's not a huge issue at all, IMO. The Happy Scrappy line is a minimal annoyance, but other than that there's really no reason at all to keep the old DVD.

    Clerks X: Missing sound cues?

In any event, the "new" Happy Scrappy line is just plain awkward for those of us who have watched this movie with the theatrical mix a million times. At least it's no digital Jabba, so I can live with it. -Ben

    Clerks X: Missing sound cues?

But what's weird is during the commentary for the rough IFFM cut, Kevin is making fun of the akward "Happy Scrappy" line, I guess the one on the Clerks X Theatrical DVD is the same as the one used in the IFFM cut as well. Weird, since he didn't seem to like the original line reading during the...

    The Village artwork

What a terrible letdown. I've really enjoyed M's other films, but this one was so lame, sorry. Pass on the DVD for me, even if it is the return of the Vista lable.

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

I for one have had enough with this thread. No more good can come of it. It's turned into a 60 page example of the spoiled-brat type of society we have evolved into, where everyone thinks they're entitled to everything as a God-given birthright. There are more important things happening in the...

A Few Words About A few words about... Star Wars on DVD

Probably a stupid question, but when a digital restoration is done, is that good enough to make prints from? Basically what I'm asking is if Star Wars is ever re-released to theatres will the prints be taken from the new digital master or will that not have enough resolution for the big screen...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

Getting back to Star Wars, ahem, I'm again stating my overall joy with this set. Minor glitches aside (at least to my ears they were minor, I couldn't even tell that the music was reveresed until it was pointed out) I've rediscovered the magic of these films and I think that's what a lot of...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

Vincent, the Episode 4 tag was added for the re-release of Star Wars while Empire was in theatres. So, if I'm not mistaken, the original crawl has not been seen since the original theatrical run. Maybe a true die-hard can confirm that...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

You know what? My initial feelings of anger that the original versions weren't included vanished the second the trumpets sounded and the Star Wars logo appeared in the opening frames of ANH. I sat back, relaxed, and guess what? I fell in love with these films again. Are there things I wish were...

    Dvd Collection Question Needs Answered......

OK, but my point was that you can "OWN" something that does pretty much the "SAME THING" as DVD Profiler, in fact EXACTLY the same thing; just use DVD Profiler. Why not just support a great program and pay the $25 registration? Is the only thing holding you back the fact that it doesn't come in...

Can anyone comment on the video quality vs. the first release? I generally don't double dip, but I'm a huge fan, so if the A/V is a big improvement I may consider it. Thanks!

Edited and altered films on DVD

Is Blue Underground starting to suffer from Miriamax-itis?

No, there wasn't an EE problem (at least to my recollection) but I remember thinking it was just OK. By no means, though, should that stop you from picking it up if you're a fan of the film

Is Blue Underground starting to suffer from Miriamax-itis?

Really? I thought Zombi actually looked Amazing (maybe I'm just used to the horrid print from Anchor Bay I've been watching the past few years) Anyway, I love Blue Underground and all, but I've been pretty disappointed with several of their releases in the picture quality department. I eagerly...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Thriller: A Cruel Picture (Limited Edition)

This is certainly the best presentation of Thriller I've ever seen. Synapse films generally are impossible to find at B&M stores, so just head to Amazon to pick this one up. Question: Why, In Many Cases, Do Outtakes & Unused Bonus Material Look Awful On DVDs?

More often than not, these are just low-res Avid spit-outs. The Dogma SE is a good example of this, where they used low-res Avid outputs rather than cleaned up versions, much to the dismay of the DVD producers and Vincent Periera.

Tried complaining to BBB about Columbia...

While I applaud your "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" stance, the BBB is not the right outlet for this. Unless Sony has engaged in illegal business practices, like others said you're wasting their time. If you're really serious, start a letter writing campaign or something.

Fight piracy - lower the price!

Oh, Ron, please don't make us remember the "good old days"!! I have painful memories of shelling out $100+ for Criterion laserdiscs. I think one of the first DVDs I bought was Clerks, nearly $40!! The new pricing structures, especially on catalogue releases, are a blessing indeed.

Fight piracy - lower the price!

Umm, have you been to Best Buy lately?? You'd be very hard pressed to find catalogue titles nowadays selling for more than $15. Prices have come way down in the past few years, at least from my experience. I don't know if it's a response to piracy in the states, but it sure is a welcome change...

Music sharing doesn't kill CD sales, study says

Your math is rediculous. $200,00 is low-balling it for a major release if you count recording costs and ad costs. I feel we're getting off topic, though. Even if costs were zero per disc, that still does not excuse theft, that's the ultimate point I'm trying to make. Using the "CDs are too...

Music sharing doesn't kill CD sales, study says

The increase in promotion costs didn't coincide with the release of the CD, they rose exponantially as a result of the rise of MTV and a much more image obsessed public. And again, if you take into acount the costs of producing the average major label album, along with the fact that CD prices...

Music sharing doesn't kill CD sales, study says

As someone who works in the music industry, I'd like to help correct the mentality that "CDs only cost 5 cents to make and record companies are selling them for $18 a pop" First of all, while CD-Rs may cost you 5 cents a piece at Staples, the cost of manufacturing an album can cost tens of...
