Okay, voting is closed. I'm going to try to get the site up this week, but there's still 110 blurbs to write, 160 screenshots to capture, plus some introductory material, etc. So it'll take me awhile. But I'm on it. :D
Fah, I forgot to post that voting was closed! However, since I won't be working on the final results site until after I get home tonight I will let any stragglers post a list until after "24" is over tonight, at 10PM EST. So if you didn't get to post your list yet, now's your chance.
Yes, I'm going to start counting votes on Tuesday, but I'll post another message here at the spot I've counted up to, so I can really give HTF members up until Saturday to post their lists.
Well, the Looney Tunes could go either way, but of course you may list TV DVDs in the overall list - I just wanted to include a separate TV-on-DVD list since people requested that last year. And I think we can allow releases from other regions, as long as you specify which region. However...
Now that all the big releases of 2004 are out and you've gotten a chance to check out the discs and their special features, it's time again to put together a list of the Top 100 DVD Releases of All-Time. This 'census' was last done in January 2004, and the list of results was varying and...
Wow, who would've thought that a new anamorphic transfer would look worse than the old non-anamorphic. And there is no comparison of the Criterion 16:9 version and the Truth About Charlie 16:9 version on that site, which would be helpful, but from what I can tell, it looks like the transfer...
I happen to like most of Spielberg's films - but sometimes he steps over the line from sentiment to sentimentality. Spielberg has a good eye and would have been a wonderful silent film director. I believe Schindler's List would have been more powerful as a silent film. It's that dialogue that...
While the film is excellent (it's this year's "Memento") the DVD is now completely bare-bones - all of the features have been removed to make way for an SE later in the year. So I'll pass for now. I hate double-dipping. Try to give it a rental, though - the film itself is well worth it.
Apocalypse Now is NOT out of print. Both versions of the film are still available on DVD. What's the source for the Star Wars DVD alterations? Or is that list just based on the differences between the original theatrical releases and the 1997 SEs? Because they're still working on the...
Robert - it's not that I don't give a shit about dead people in Spain - it's just that one thing has nothing to do with another. Why did the other poster even bring it up? Yeah, there are always other things to worry about and tragedies in the world. But what does that have to do with DVD...
Yes, and there are children starving in China. So eat your brussel sprouts. There will always be horrible things happening to someone somewhere in the world all the time always. That doesn't mean that my life and desires are less valid.
I don't see why it would be, since it has absolutely nothing to do with you. But it's not an accusation. It's a fact. Spielberg makes money every time a DVD includes DTS. It doesn't offend me - he's in business to make money - but it's something to consider. Of course he's going to want to...
Hi, my name's Jough Dempsey. I'm as non-anonymous as I can possibly be on the Internet. If Spielberg would like to call me and discuss the matter, I'll give him my home phone number. But I won't wait by the phone for his call. I didn't accuse him of any "crimes against the home theater...
Um, because without the DTS track (i.e. Spielberg makes money from this set even while looking like a good guy by donating the profits from the actual sales to charity) the film could've fit on a single side. That's how someone's greed cheapened the presentation of the film.
I didn't see any with the widescreen version at my local well-travelled Best Buy, either, but I know of one that's a little more off the beaten path and they had a tonne of them. I guess you have to get lucky to find a store that still has widescreen versions with the booklet intact...
Magnolia is over 3 hours long and looks wonderful. Once Upon a Time in the West is nearly 3 hours and is one of the best transfers I've ever seen. The only reason this was split across two discs was for the DTS track - and there's hardly any point to even having a DTS track for this title...
The Magnificent Ambersons L.A. Confidential Full Metal Jacket Mars Attacks How the West was Won The Maltese Falcon Dial M For Murder Dog Day Afternoon Network Risky Business The Big Sleep Poltergeist and of course Superman II: Richard Donner Cut
The DTS track isn't really any better than the DD for this particular release. It's not like we have to worry about explosions and cool special effects sound effects. There are MANY films that look great on DVD and fit on one side that are over 3 hours long.
I didn't request it - just pre-ordered the disc from their site. It came yesterday (which was the first time Amazon had delivered a disc prior to street date). If you have a mom and pop video store near you that does special orders, you can have them order it. The keepcase version has a...
That was my point. All films are told from a certain "point of view" and it seems that the above reviewer mostly had problems with that point of view - his critique didn't seem tainted by personal predjudices, as another poster thought.
Ernest, it is possible for someone to disagree with your opinion, even if your opinion is the popular one, without disagreeing with it for the wrong reasons. I didn't get that the above reviewer had a personal bias against Spielberg - I read his review, and had some problems with the film...
My DVD changer can't flip over the disc, but it can go right to the next disc and start playing it, minimizing the delay and awkward break in the film.
Peter Bracke at DVD File received a two-disc version, and the Pacific Coast distributors catalog lists both single and 2-disc versions for order. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
Oh, Ernest, you're right. How could we have any pleasure in life or complain about inconveniences and personal tradgedies after the Holocaust. I mean, compared to that horror, just about everything seems trivial, doesn't it? But you're missing the point. It's cheaper to produce two dvd-9s...
I started a poll over at DVD Talk to see how many people bought which of the 9 versions of the release and at what store. So far no one seems to have bought a DVD-18 - everyone selected the 2-disc choice. Now, of course, they could be confused about the difference in which version they...
Well, the flipper also splits the movie onto two sides. How is the flipper more convenient than having two discs? And Amazon.com is sometimes wrong about the case specs. They could also be selling the digipak. I'm curious, now, to see if there are indeed 9 different versions of this...
