Resurrecting a really old thread here - Just saw the Zadek's on clearance at Comp USA - S2000 at $99 and the center at $50 - sub at $50 too. Has anyone heard these over time? worth the $$? No returns on clearance, after all...
I'll second the question, Brad - Dlink has one out, HP has one on the market, and I've seen reviews on Cnet for the Prismiq media adapter, Squeezebox from Slim Devices, one from Soundblaster, and others... but very few reviews from people who use them. Anyone out there who's listened to one/more...
Hmm, I guess it's all opinion - I've got one vote for Plasma, one for DLP, and over on AVSforum, I saw one vote for Sony LCD - something about having a converter in it... Alas, forced to trust my own eyes, I guess!
I'm looking at all thu usual suspects among non-tube wide screens-- Plasma (Panny ED/HD's), LCD (Sony's) and DLP (Sammy's). In the stores, all three look good (42-50" range), and I'm aware of the limitations of each. My question is what will best handle SD feeds? Most of what our cable co...
Mike, with relatively little for me to compare to, it sounds good to my ears. As the speakers are relatively small, it helps push the music to sound more full-- I opened up the crosover a bit higher than 80 (I think 120) to take a bit more low end thru the sub. At low volumes, I can feel the...
This is my first setup, so I may not know what I'm missing. Nevertheless, in my first month, I'm very pleased with the sound. And at the price, it's barely more than HK sells the sub by itself. My other option was to go Fluance and add a sub. I've yet to see a bad review of their...
Jon, here's another idea - HKTS12, which got a rave on CNET, is at J&R for about $300 plus shipping. I've got the setup in a real big room, and it sounds very good to my ears, both music and movies. Only downside is it's weak at low volume. So I just keep the volume up!
Todd, my 2cents, have a look at the HKTS 12 setup as well - specs are similar to the JBL (both are Harmon companies) and includes a sub, too, for $300 at J&R. Great CNET review prompted me to give this a try-- I only set these up last night, but I like what I hear so far, big sound in a big...
I just got the Pioneer and set it up, and it's terrific. Big sound (in a very big room), and easy to set up and learn to use. This is my first HT setup, so I have relatively less to compare to, but from my shopping around, it seemed that the Pioneer had more rated power and as many or more...
What would be a comparable sounding speaker to Fluance? All the reviews on them are terrific, but as everyone here notes, you need to demo before you buy... any ideas on what's a similar sound?
Donald, you said: "If you want to play music, I'd make changes, the Pioneer doesn't have the best THD specs, but it can deliver easily enough power to drive this system" Can you explain re: THD specs and music? I'm looking at the Pioneer 912K, largely due to power and calibration, but I'm...
Also, Burke, thanks for the idea on the Maggies, but I've got little kids in the house, and we'd have holes in those speakers before they were out of the box!
Thanks for the ideas. I agree about the big sub, which is part of what caught my attention about the HK package. Was wandering through Circuit City today, and the salesperson was telling me I "had" to have floor standing speakers for my space, that bookshelves would get lost. My initial...
To start, thanks in advance - this forum is great, and I've learned a ton in a short time! I'm a first timer, and haven't bought yet. I'm buying sound first, and I've got a very big space - 24X24 and cathedral ceiling up to about 15'. For the amp, the CNET reveiw and comments here have me...
