Several weeks ago I noticed that after logging in and selecting "New Posts" the "threads below this..." notation started appearing before the first thread instead of the normal spot several pages later where I last logged in. Obviously I did something inadvertently to cause this; any idea what...
The $250 deal offered by Classic Flix was really good so I pledged at that level. I am disappointed that this campaign didn't seem to reach their goal. Hopefully Classic Flix will consider extending it another month or so to allow the word to get out more. This is definitely worth a blind buy...
The Last Hurrah has been one of my most requested titles to TT- thank you, Nick and Brian! It's a gem of a film with a terrific cast and won't disappoint anyone who buys this.
Very happy this Saturday morning
I am a bit late in posting my thoughts on the disc due to the time it took to watch all the material and listen to all commentaries as well as real life getting in the way.
Bottom line: this is a must buy for anyone wanting to be entertained. If you're a fan of classic comedy you will...
I'm at a loss for words so I'll simply give a public "thank you" to Dave and Gord. You two are class acts who contributed immensely to our collective enjoyment of this hobby. May God bless you both with continued success in whatever your next adventures are and, above all, please don't be...
Thanks, Mike.
The Biffle and Shooster release comes to me this week via Amazon. Fellow HTF member @cadavra is the creative force behind this and deserves a shout out for his efforts.
Sad news as she was still vibrant in her 11th decade. I don't believe she ever married so any survivors would be nieces/nephews at this point.
As far as I know, she was the last surviving adult actor who appeared in the Rathbone/Bruce series. Marjorie Lord having been the other until her...
With the reduction of releases of tv shows on home video accompanied by the increasing use of social media by studios I'd been concerned about the long term viability of that site for awhile. It used to be the case that Gord and Dave would have the first news of an impending release...
As a lifelong L&H devotee and a longtime fan of A&C, the Stooges and Gorcey/Hall I am thrilled that Mike S has managed to rescue these treasures from the ravages of time so that modern audiences can enjoy them.
Since RAH has indicated that 20 were produced that leaves only 15 more to be...
Mike - thank you for your efforts to get these out. It’s very disheartening that your cohorts at Sony wouldn’t listen. The nice thing about the Columbia series is that they all have something to recommend. Warren William is an underrated and very charismatic actor plus you get Eric Blore...
There is a persistent rumor that the late William K Everson had one of the lost Chans (I forget which one for certain) in his collection but that it disappeared after his passing. It certainly sounds plausible given the depth of material he had.
As for HD I’m not certain that the Oland Chans...
I really like Sleepers West. You get both Fox cuties (Lynn Bari and Mary Beth Hughes), the underrated Louis Jean Heydt, and the comic talents of Ben Carter and Mantan Moreland.
Rich - thanks for heads up on Just Off Broadway. I didn't buy the MOD disc because of the terrible reputation Fox had with that program and I was upset they didn't just add another disc to the Shayne set to include it and Time to Kill.
Mysto - I was thinking about Warner Baxter and Crime...
Great video; thanks for sharing. Of course the great irony is that in many cases, classic film fans prefer the B films over the A ones. Their repeated exposure on TV during the nostalgia boon of the 70s certainly helped plus the fact that many of them are quite enjoyable.
Keep in mind that TT does not do restorations; they issue what the studios provide to them. Also, they can't release titles from studios that don't license films or ones that they don't have a relationship with. Warners and Universal for example don't license films to TT. Finally, a film has...
The Marple series are a personal favorite of mine. Dame Margaret is a hoot in these films and the series leaves viewers wanting more.
For those who didn't know, she and Stringer Davis were married which makes his appearances as her worrywort gentleman friend all the more endearing.
Had she...
The content is excellent on these discs. These are wonderful shows and their message resonates with me still. Video quality is strong.
The technical aspects leave something to be desired though. Another issue I've noticed is that the subtitle placements are sometimes so far to the edge of...
Good luck! These films and others like it seem to have fallen off the face of the Earth. Another title from that era is "That Tennessee Beat". Great music all around.
Without researching I would bet these were all indie productions and the master materials have scattered to who knows where...
Agree! I always thought a Sony missed an opportunity to issue box sets of their series at the same time that the Chans et al were being released. The Whistlers and Crime Doctors in particular are quite well done. Fortunately I've recorded most of these off TCM in mostly very good copies...
I get the first amendment arguments, but I also really admire that Ms. DeHavilland is taking a stand here. At some point an individual has a right to protect their reputation when films, documentaries, etc present them in a false light. Did Feud cross that point? That's for the legal system...
Not watching and haven't for quite awhile. Awards shows have gotten too political and we want to be entertained, not subjected to hours of Hollywood pushing whatever agenda is hot at the moment.
Plus, now that we're a generation or three past the glamour days when we could still see golden...
Hank would have been just fine. Want proof? Just think of all the times his records have been revived through the years in all genres. Cold Cold Heart. You Win Again. I'm So Lonesome. Your Cheating Heart. These and more have been recorded by Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, BJ Thomas, and many...
Smaller markets who don't report into Billboard, etc. may have deeper playlists especially in the Midwest and South. I listen to a classic country station that plays deep deep cuts from the 40s on and will also play new releases from traditional artists.
