I just picked up a denon 3801 (with a 3803 remote) in pristine condition for 350 + 25 shipping off Audiogon (I posted a wanted ad). Maybe more features on a current model, but certainly not more bang for the buck. I'm extraordinarily pleased with the 3801.
I have a Denon 3801 that I picked up second-hand; it is my first ht system and I am thrilled. I have everything working A-OK; I have a dvd player, dish pvr, vcr, video game platform all running through the system. I can't seem to get the broadcast tv figured out--I get my local channels...
Thanks for the follow-up, John. I disconnected everything and started over one component at a time; the constant seems to be the front speakers. I'm going to borrow another set of fronts and run the system with them; then I'll try the old epi speakers one at a time. After hooking the epi's up...
I just hooked up a Denon 3801; it has been turning itself off and going into safe mode. I checked wiring, etc. -- it's not getting hot. My old EPI 1100 speakers are in the front, Polk csi400 center, polk m3 rears. No sub yet nor second set surrounds. The right front epi sounded "scratchy"...
Here is what I have (or will have): denon 3801 polk CS400i center polk m3 rears epi 1100 (1984, pls don't laugh) Just looking for a sub to get by with until I can afford something better. If I can't do it for $300, I'll wait. Thank you guys very much for your input - today's my bday...
Thanks, John. I had read nothing but good stuff about the 3801, including remarks like the one Steve made (the 3801 seeming more powerful than the 3803). I was concerned about the PL2; I'm going to overlook it and pull the trigger on the Denon. Now I'll have a couple/few hundred dollars to...
What if I put off buying a sub and step up to a denon 3803 for 699 inc. shipping brand new (the 6th ave deal)? Or, would you recommend something else at that price (or, hopefully, lower)?
Wayne, Thank you--sounds like the big difference with PL2 is decoding older movies; this would be useful. Thought the 3801 at 350 was a killer deal; seems like this technology is moving at lightning speed.
My budget, unfortunately, is right at the $350 level at this time. Is Dolby PL2 such a dramatic improvement? What will I gain from it, exactly? I really don't know; I was blown away hearing PL several years ago. I'm mainly interested in what I'm going to get out of newer movie releases at this...
I can get a Denon avr 3801 for $350; can I do any better for a first HT setup (would you buy new)? It will be used for music and HT. I have a fairly big room (24x24). Since I've never had any kind of Dolby sound at all (been running movies through my old 2 channel, circa 1984 receiver (great...
Would you consider used? The Polk RM3 speakers have good ratings and built-in mounts to put in corners between wall and ceiling. They're a few years old, MSRP was close to $300/pair; I picked up a pair in prime condition (in white; they come in black or white) for $65- on eBay. Posting a wanted...
Has anyone heard one of these? Someone mentioned them in another thread but didn't follow up. At $99 shipped, could this sub be the answer for someone on a budget, until he has the chance to upgrade? Allegedly, the sub is 150 watts with a frequency response to 20Hz . . . Thanks for the...
Hi, been on the road . . . what do you mean, two channel material into five speakers . . . what I'm looking for is something to do a good job on music and also dvds . . .
Hi, I'm looking to spend less than 500- on an av receiver - looking at denon 3801 or outlaw 1050 (both available for 450 or less). Any suggestions? Is there a new receiver of comparable quality in this range? Or, another brand used? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Will
