I've been considering Paradigm's Focus for some time now, but how would they compare to Phase's Teatro 4.5? I'm theorizing the Focus' will have more defined lows, but I've listened to some other Phases, and they sounded spectacular. The Teatro's are a bit cheaper per pair, also. So does anybody...
I guess it would make sense to save up and get a better sub. What about a DIY approach? Maybe a Tempest with about 250 watts, that'd be plenty for me. Maybe even a PR setup, although I'm not completely confident I could build a correct enclosure for it. But I could definitely build a nice ported...
Thanks for replying! I am aware that SVS and HSU are a great value, but I am unsure if I can spend that much. Hardware alone minus the sub will put me close to, if not over budget, and that's not counting wires or stands. I wanted to purchase a better receiver, but I'm almost positive that won't...
Well, I finally got around the listening to the Paradigms, and I must say, they are very impressive, very dynamic and incredible impact from a bookshelf. I think I'm going to go with The Focuses, two for the front and two for the rear. I will also get the CC170 center, but I'm kinda stuck for...
I just demoed some Infinity Primus 250's, and sadly, I wasn't impressed at all. The problem is, I can't really purchase speakers without listening to them, and all there is around here is Infinity, Polk, and Bose. So I'm kind of in a jam.
I'm a big fan of Phase, my dad has an older Phase setup, about 1998. Sounds spectacular. His setup is what I'll be judging mine against. I know I can't beat his, since he spend way more than I have to work with, but I want to be as close as I can get for the money. What about the Teatro 6.5...
I understand that it has a higher THD, but at what volume? All? I don't think it makes sense if the speakers were to distort without playing something they can't handle. I listen mainly to rock, also, so I don't think a bit of distortion would be a big deal.
I already have a decent receiver, and I'm buying a refurb player. I know I can't get the sound I want, but I want to be able to get the best for my money.
What is your opinion on the Pioneer VSX-D412? I already have this receiver, although I didn't think it was good enough for my plans. But, I might use it, because it has enough power, and it'll save me a few hundred on another receiver, money I can spend on a good powered sub.
Or should I go with the Primus 360's? They're only $20 more, and they have a 4" midrange, which the Entra does not. Then the Primus center, and I was thinking of an Onkyo 5 disc player, which is $109 at one call, and maybe an Onkyo TXSR501 for the reciever. Any thoughts? I didn't like the Primus...
Alright, how about this: Infinity Entra Three floorstanders, $320 a pair Infinity Entra Two Center $148 Wharfdale dipole surrounds $ 100 a pair Maybe an Infinity PS-12, still undecided I'm still working out the player and reciever, but is this a decent setup?
"There is $100 difference between the two, plus I only have a 27-inch television, so the 3-way center would dwarf my television. "
I think you answered your own question right there.
I prefer floorstanders, because I've noticed that the sound is a lot fuller than bookshelves, and I like the powered sub within the tower, other than having a seperate woofer.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I do like the tweeters a bit bright, I forgot to mention that. I have auditioned Infinity Alpha's, and liked the sound, but not the price.
They look very promising, but would they have enough sound to fill up the room? Also, I would have to get stands for the front, which would add to the cost.
