    Sub Help

I haven't owned an SVS/HSU/Velo ... but I did build my own sub and it tears apart my house. I also saved alot of $$$. The entire cost was around $400 CND. I would DEFINATLEY purchase a BFD (equalizer). So keep into account the funds for that ($150 CND). This is my current frequency chart for...

Will this space be okay for an IB setup ?

okay, so say one day I had anough $$ for dual 18's, would the space suffice ?

Will this space be okay for an IB setup ?

The storage area is 152 cubic feet. And if I were to make a vent it would be as large as a regular furnace outlet. Sorry, money is VERY tight. I'm stuck with the Tempest for quite some time so I can't even look at the AV18's.

Will this space be okay for an IB setup ?

One should also note that the floor to the second level is located on the roof of the crawl space. if I wanted, I could easily make a small vent to join the two areas together. this would then make 1100 square feet of additional space for the enclosure. would this benefit the IB?

Will this space be okay for an IB setup ?

My wife an I recently bought a house (woohoo :)) and now I have the option of trying out this thing people call the "Infinity Baffle". I currently have a 15" Tempest in a ported 194 litre enclosure. While I am happy with the Tempest, it's huge and always an eyesore. Also, I'm always wanting to...

    Ok, fixed BFD and replotted

On my 1014 I calibrate my sub at -27. After creating a flat response with the BFD, the sub sits at 83db @ -27 on the 1014. 83db's should be okay but I wouldn't go louder when playing those tones.

how good is the pioneer VSX-1014 going to be compared to the elite.....

Once again, don't trust the salesman. He probably knew the "cheaper" reciever didn't have the MCACC enabled. He's obviously trying to sell you the more expensive 55TXi. I own the 1014TX and I don't find the sound echoed or thin. Compared to my previous Denon reciever, the Pioneer is "SMOOOOOOTH"...

how good is the pioneer VSX-1014 going to be compared to the elite.....

Make sure you press the "auto surround" button on your remote. What you described happened to me as well, and it was easy to correct. And just to make sure, you are using a coax/optical cable right ? And your DVD player is set to "bitstream" or "all" ?

    Any Edmontonians have/hear SVS!

Max - Nope. I chose the SBB4 due to it's smaller enclosure. It's basically a perfect 24 inch cube. I had a huge peak at 56 hz and a dip at 63 hz but that was because of my room and I flattened everything perfectly with a BFD. The sub is tuned to 18 hz but for some reason is 2db's louder at 16 hz...

    Any Edmontonians have/hear SVS!

Sorry, I forgot to mention. You guys can always contact me through email ([email protected]) if you want to come over and hear a real subwoofer :). From what I understand, the SVS subs should sound very similar (and some even better) to my DIY sub. Just FYI, most friends that come over...

Dodgeball - Dialoge distortion ? Or just me ?

Hey all. I just finished watching Dodgeball with the wife last night and thought it was pretty good. However, I couldn't help but be distracted by some distortion in the soundtrack. It really pulled me away from the movie at times. My wife didn't even notice until I pointed it out to her, but it...

    Any Edmontonians have/hear SVS!

I don't have one, but I have a Tempest in a 194L vented enclosure. I was leaning towards SVS but it was too costly at the time. I was looking at a PC+ 20-39 but it was around $1200 CND shipped+duty+taxes. Instead I built a Tempest sub for $400 CND and I am in bass heaven. I have a perfect flat...

Wow! I didn't expect this: I think I'm done w/ analog amps (receiver or separates)

Thanks Jose, that makes much more sense to me :).

Wow! I didn't expect this: I think I'm done w/ analog amps (receiver or separates)

This makes no sense to me. A speaker is an analog device. You can't just feed it a digital signal ....... This goes against everything I've learned from this forum and with personal experience. You have to have some kind of analog conversion before the signal reaches the speaker ......

Wow! I didn't expect this: I think I'm done w/ analog amps (receiver or separates)

I am curious. Right now I'm a proud owner of a Pioneer VSX-1014TX. I noticed I have one "Digital OUT" jack on the back of the reciever. If I wanted to try out a digital amplifier, I would obviously not use the 7-channel analog pre out, but the "optical out" .... right ? I'm not quite sure what...

    Lookin for a new Sub

Funny, that's exactly how us Canadians feel about the good ol' US of A :). Walmart, Starbucks, Old Navy, Best Buy, etc. killing our small businesses ..... I wouldn't get on the "Reds" so much, you guys do it too :P.

how good is the pioneer VSX-1014 going to be compared to the elite.....

I think these guys are crazy as well :). The loudest I've ever had my 1014 TX at was -13. I was watching Matrix Revolutions and it was LOUD. It sounded simply phenominal but I wouldn't EVER play it louder than -13 .... my ears simply could not handle it .... and either could my neighbors. I...

    BFD vs. 1014tx

The 1014 TX eq's as low as 40hz. I was just in the "Manual MCACC" section 5 minutes ago on my reciever and indeed there is a 40hz option. Right now I have everything set to small at 80z so the 40hz option is non-selectable. I have a BFD and it is a MUST. The 1014 can't touch the amount of fine...

    Sub distance setting in receiver

MCACC on my 1014 TX did wonders for my sub as well. My mains and sub are 11.5 ft away from my listening position. MCACC set my sub to 15 ft and it does not sound "slow" at all any more. My previous Denon 1803 did not allow me to adjust the sub distance and I was never quite happy how it...

    What reciever with Paradigm monitors?

Yeah, it happened a few weeks ago and I was soooo dissapointed. I'm not rich by any means (living pay cheque to pay cheque almost), and having to dish out $900 CND for a new reciever was pretty hard. My birthday is today and the wife bought me a nice AV-rack with a glass door, so I should be...

Manual MCACC ..... am I missing something ?

Ah, that makes things very clear. Thanks Gregg. So there is no real easy way to use the Manual EQ with an SPL meter ? It may be possible but it seems difficult. The only reason I ask is because it cuts off about 4 db's at 10 KHz for my monitor 7's. That seems a bit drastic to me and I just...

Manual MCACC ..... am I missing something ?

I recently purchased a Pioneer 1014 and love it to death. I've managed to set everything up the way I want with ease .... except for the Manual MCACC feature. While my system sounds great using the Acoustic EQ, I was wanting to double-check the EQ'd frequency levels with my trusty RadiaShack SPL...

    What reciever with Paradigm monitors?

I went from a Denon AVR-1803 (cat urinated on it and fried it) to a Pioneer vsx-1014. You are right, the monitors love power. The Pioneer has more power than the old Denon and my Monitors now sound like they should IMO. The Monitors can be a bit bright (even with the Denon) but the MCACC does...

So who uses an EQ for their sub?

Rick -Martin had it dead on. Long & McQuade has em always in stock. Wayne - Nice house curve. What frequency, gain, and bandwith did you use to make the curve ? Right now my eq is set for a flat response. I wouldn't mind trying what you have there.

how good is the pioneer VSX-1014 going to be compared to the elite.....

I just set up the Bi-Amp feaure for the Surround Back zone with my Monitor 7's, and WOW!. I can see why people recommend bi-amping instead of Bi-wiring. I recommend anyone with this amp to try this feature. My digms sound great.

So who uses an EQ for their sub?

*raises hand* I'm using a BFD with a 194L Tempest DIY Sub.I've tried various "house curves" and found that a flat response sounded better. Right now I'm +/- 2db from 18-80hz. It sounds simply fantastic and I would never even think of owning a sub without my trusty BFD. I paid $185 CND. Best...

    A few Paradigm questions.

I had a CC-270 when I purchased my Monitor 7's. I thought it was timre matched when I bought it, but after a few weeks I just didn't like the sound of the centre and it didn't really blend with my mains. After some research, I had found out that the CC270 was a match for the Performance series...
