    Turned down Extended Warranty

I agree with your decision to decline the extended warranty. If an extended warranty were worth buying, then it would not be for sale.

    Not enough component inputs!

My Philips HDTV has one 480p/1080i input. It will not upconvert a 480i signal to 480p/1080i via this input. Therefore, I have to switch between inputs to view 480i material and 480p/1080i material.

    Not enough component inputs!

I plug one output to the 480i input of my TV, and the other to the 480p/1080i input of my TV. This way I can play a non-progressive game or a progressive game without having to change cables.

    Not enough component inputs!

I purchased a component video switch from AV Toolbox. I absolutely love it! It has 4 inputs and 2 outputs, and I do not see any loss of HD picture quality with it. The 2 outputs are very handy for my Gamecube, since not all games are progressive scan capable. Do a search for "HD Video...

    NASCAR drive HDTV Sales?

Eric, I have noticed the same thing regarding picture quality in some shots, such as the "in car" camara at Daytona. However, in my area the non-HD shots were in a 4:3 format with black bars on the sides. I have also noticed some HD shows (such as Shrek last night) were non-HD and in a 4:3...

    NASCAR drive HDTV Sales?

I also watched just to see an HD program. With so much color and crowd viewing, NASCAR is probably the most ideal sport for HD. I think golf will be unbelievable, too!

    Ota Hdtv

Purchase a nice Channel Master amplifier. Mine was about $35. I receive 5 HD channels with it and a $5 UHF loop sitting on top of the entertainment center (we just moved, so I haven't mounted my good Channel Master boom antenna in the attic yet). There is a great article on antenna's, but I...

    Progressive Scan Problem

Thanks, Allan. I guess this explains the line conditioner eliminating the problem.

    Progressive Scan Problem

My set does not have an "Auto" mode, but it does disallow the "Expanded 4:3" option when viewing 480p material. So, it does somehow have unselectable "Auto" frame size settings or restrictions. I asked my wife if she has noticed this problem, and she has not seen it happen since we purchased...

    Progressive Scan Problem

As an update to this, I received an HD tuner for Christmas and had the same problem (it would happen once or twice every week). I beleive it was some kind of overscan setting which was glitching for some reason. I said "was" because it has not occured since purchasing a line conditioner about a...

    Progressive scan DVD for HDTV?

I have a 32" Philips HDTV. My problem was that I only had 1 component HD input. I already had an inexpensive JVC progressive scan dvd player and was blown away by the picture quality. When I purchased an HD receiver, I moved my progressive scan dvd player to a non-HD component input. The tv is...

    Can component video handle 720p/1080i?

I too own an HD set without DVI inputs. This is the first I have heard of this situation. I beleive the record industry tried to outlaw tape recorders back in the 70's. Hopefully this effort will have the same result!

HD Video Switching - Inexpensive Solution

I decided to go with the AV Toolbox unit (non-matrixed). I hooked it up last night and I am very pleased with it. There was no loss of 1080i quality that I could tell. Also, I tested it with my hd tuner and progressive scan dvd player running at the same time and it separated the channels...

    Phillips 30PW85OH Questions

I bought the Philips 32pt830h from Sam's in November and love it. I decided to go ahead and get a HD tuner as my Christmas gift and was glad I did (I, like yourself, was going to wait a while). It will absolutely blow you away! I would go to Sam's and spend a good bit of time playing with the...

    Progressive Scan Problem

Thanks, John. I am beginning to suspect that it is the DVD Player. I have been really impressed with every Philips product I have ever purchased, so I really do not think it is the set. I still can't get over the picture quality. I can not wait to get my HD tuner!

    Progressive Scan Problem

I recently purchased a Philips 32" HDTV (32PT830H). I do not yet have an HD tuner, so currently the only source I can plug into the HD input (via component video cables) is my JVC Progressive Scan DVD player (XV-S62). During playback of a DVD, the screen size will occasionally zoom in and out...
