The Wizard is one of the greatest bad films ever made! A Universal Ultimate Edition is definitely in order!:) "You make money off of kids you miserable jerk! You oughtta be shot!"
I must have lucked out with Bowling for Columbine too. I bought it at Circuit City a few weeks ago and it contains two discs and a ton of features. I guess anyone who is interested in getting it should go to a store soon :)
Matt, thanks for contacting Fox and Fortune Star about Young Master and the release availability. It is good to see that those studios actually listen to the input. I checked the stores again today (one week after release) and still did not find them. I'm sure they will show up soon!
Has anyone been able to find the new batch of Fox/Fortune Star DVDs? I checked WM, Kmart, Target, BB, CC, and did not find any of them. I'm sure they have them at Suncoast or similar, but I'd like to get them at the $5-$6 range :) Hopefully they'll show up soon....
I ended up getting the R.1 Columbia disc. It actually isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The framing is off in a few parts (character heads being slightly cropped), but it is tolerable for me. The theatrical presentation I saw was cropped significantly more than this DVD. The DVD is...
I bought lots of LDs as others were selling them for DVDs. I just got my first LD player about two years ago, mainly for original Star Wars and other odd-ball titles that will not come out on DVD. Up until recently, there was a store nearby that sold them for pretty cheap prices, so I now have...
I just found a review for the region 2 Triplets DVD at http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=10549 This paragraph provides more information about the framing issue that I have been curious about: "This DVD is presented anamorphically in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, slightly...
Did anyone else notice cropping of 'Triplets' in the theater? It was not present throughout, but there were parts that really drove me nuts. The top part of "Grandma's" head was chopped in some parts. The opening sequence was really bad (which was mentioned in the IGN review). It seemed to me to...
I have been reading some reviews about the region 1 DVD of 'Triplets of Belleville' from Columbia and have become concerned about some things about it. I hope someone has received an early copy and can comment. Here are my concerns: - The disc supposedly has English and Spanish 5.1 audio. It...
I have it on LD and have watched it recently. Trust me, it is entertainingly horrible and cheesy! This film comes up in threads here on HTF from time to time, so hopefully Universal is listening and will eventually release it on DVD!
Since Buena Vista will not release unrated discs, I wonder if Tarantino could take the Japanese version to another studio for DVD release? Maybe...........Criterion? They have released Buena Vista material on DVD in the past.
Roger is my movie hero! I always catch the show and buy the Friday Sun-Times. His reviews are the best around, and I almost always agree with him. He did sound pretty bad on a show a few weeks ago, but I remember him looking fine on the latest show. It sounded like he had a cold or something...
I got into DVD in the fall of 1998. I can remember buying The Blues Brothers SE DVD on it's release day, even before having a player. It was my first DVD. I had just recently seen the movie for the first time (!), and I really wanted to see the extended cut. I bought a player a few weeks later...
I have heard this dialogue problem in The Fifth Element as well. The worst example is the "She dove off" line. I have heard it on a multitude of formats, pretty much every one. I remember hearing it on the widescreen VHS tape, the ws laserdisc, the original DVD, and the Superbit DVD - Dolby...
QED is definately the best of the three. They had some region-1 out of print stuff that I was surprised to see. I think you'll enjoy your visit! The prices are basically retail price, the same as what you would find at Suncoast/similar stores. Definately not at the level of laserdisc prices!
It looks like Wheels on Meals will not be a victim of Miramax. I just looked at the list of their properties at http://alliance.hellninjacommando.net/movies.htm I can't vouch for the accuracy of the list, I'm sure someone will post more details. There may be a good chance that 'Wheels' will...
I am also interested in responses to this question. There are three that I know of. The prices are pretty high at all three, but they are cool to check out! 1) QED Laser, 502 E. Ogden, Westmont They have a reasonable selection of alternate region discs, and tons of region 1 discs. From what...
It looks like we will have more! DVD File has posted a release date of May 25th for five more Fox/Fortune Star DVDs: Game of Death II Operation Scorpio Prodigal Son Royal Warrior Young Master I have only seen two of these (Prodigal Son and Young Master), but I plan to buy each one. I...
I hope there will be a French audio track on the DVD. I hope that Columbia just made an error in that press release, which only lists English and Spanish. The version I saw in the Evanston Century theater was in French with no subtitles. It is a great film, but I may have to avoid the region 1...
My top 10, as of 1/14/04. Please note that I have constructed my list with films that I had the most fun watching. There are other films that most people would consider to be "better" than some on my top 10, and I would probably agree. I just prefer a list with highly-entertaining films. The...
Come-on Universal, The Wizard DVD is long overdue..... The Wizard is so awful...........but so amazing at the same time. It is definately at the top of my "guilty pleasures" list. I actually found it on Laser disc about a year ago, factory-sealed, for $5. Needless to say I bought it. I only...
I would like to put in my vote for more Larry Sanders DVDs, for what it's worth. I love every second of the show, and would buy every one. It would be pretty cool if they just put out the entire series all at once. There were only 5 or 6 seasons, weren't there? I am not holding my breath, though!
I noticed this problem as well when I viewed the My Lucky Stars DVD. It happens on both the Cantonese DTS and Dolby tracks. It happens whenever characters are thinking, and also when there are crowd scenes with dialog. It seems to me to be a major dialog omission. The last time I saw this film...
I also [accidentally] purchased the HK full-frame version of "Attack the Gas Station," and just recently watched it. I noticed many instances of what appeared to be actual pan-and-scan, so I do not think it is open-matte. It was driving me nuts! Luckily I got this at a cheap price...
I almost always watch the entire credit lists when at home. I usually enjoy listening to the music, looking for weird and interesting stuff, or to watch for technical info. (like if a scope film was filmed 'In Panavision'). I usually do not stay at theaters because the ushers typically come in...
I have successfully found ALL FIVE of the 'wave 2' Fox HK discs (Duel to the Death, Eastern Condors, Heart of Dragon, In the Line of Duty 4, and My Lucky Stars) at the aformentioned store. Interestingly, they included DTS Cantonese and English tracks on the second wave. I agree that the original...
Interesting about those Fox HKL discs. I did not think they were supposed to come out until next month. I might have to swing by my local Super K to see if they have them yet! The Fox HKL discs are amazing, in the transfer department. Great picture quality, at least as seen on my non-digital...
