    1080i upconversion?

    I have a DVD player that is capable of upconverting the output signal to 1080i. My TV also upconverts incoming signals to 1080i. My question is this: Is the TV upconverting and already upconverted signal from my DVD player? What exactly happens in a case like this?

    Toshiba died

    My Toshiba 51HX83 which I got in Aug 2003 died Jan 11, 2004. We were watching it and all of a sudden heard a loud snap and at the same time the screen went completely black. Doesn't sound good! This is my second one. First one got replaced after one month because it had a defect in one of the...

    RP82 480P -> 1080i or 540p

    My DVD player is currently sending a 480i signal. I turned the progressive off. The s-video is still better than the 480i component signal. I set the inputs settings using both Avia's disk and video essentials. The results still remain the same.

    RP82 480P -> 1080i or 540p

    Can you educate me on what "flagging" means? I have a Panasonic DVD-S55. I've used both the Avia and video essentials DVD's to calibrate the tv for both the s-video and component inputs, however, the s-video remains the better picture. There is a particular scene in "Finding Nemo" which I find...

    RP82 480P -> 1080i or 540p

    Has anyone with a new Toshiba HX83 tried swiching between their s-video and component inputs? S-video appears to give the better picture. At first I thought it was due to a the DVD's progressive output so I turned that off and let the TV do the job. A bit better, but still not better than with...

    Toshiba 51HX83 RPTV: s-video vs component

    I used "video essentials" to manually adjust each input. After which the picture looked terrible so I made slight adjustments to each using regular DVD and Satellite sources. Picture on both s-video and component are very good, but s-video is still clearly better. What does a professional do...

    Toshiba 51HX83 RPTV: s-video vs component

    I went to the store where I purchased both the TV and DVD player and got them to try switching between the S-video and the component. They got the same effect with the s-video being much better. They are supposed to be contacting the Toshiba rep to discuss.

    Toshiba 51HX83 RPTV: s-video vs component

    John S: Yes I have tied another brand of DVD player. A Toshiba. The effect was even worse with it making the s-vid look better still.

    DVI with CRT RP

    David: Thanks alot. Are you aware of any other DVD players on the market with DVI outputs other than the Samsung and the V. Inc Bravo? A friend of mine just purchased a Hitachi LCD rear projection set. Beautiful looking set, however, I still think my Toshiba CRT gives a better picture. Any...

    Toshiba 51HX83 RPTV: s-video vs component

    I realize that in theory the component connection should give you a superior picture to the s-video, however, it is obviously better through the s-vid. I checked this by pausing the picture on a frame that has small text on it. With the component vid input, I could barely make out what the text...

    DVI with CRT RP

    I have a Toshiba 51HX83 CRT RP with a DVI input. I am thinking of purchasing a DVD played with a DVI output. Since the TV is a CRT set, is there really any advantage in using the DVI connections? I realize that this bypasses the D/A converter of the DVD player, but doesn't a CRT set convert...

    Sony Wega: No difference in picture quality between S-video/RCA Jacks/Component cable

    I have noticed that my s-video is a better picture than with component. Can't quite figure out why. TV= Toshiba 51HX83. DVD = Panasonic DVD-S55. any hints? Cables for both are supposed to be higher quality cables.

    Toshiba 51HX83 RPTV: s-video vs component

    I have a Toshiba 51HX83 and a Panasonic DVD-S55 DVD player. I have always had the tv fed through the component video cables and the progressive scan of the dvd player turned on. Lately I have discovered that my picture quality is better with the progressive scan off. I then discovered that my...
