I have a set of Infinity Perfect 6.1 components (car audio) that need new crossovers. Aside from ordering directly from Infinity which I'm sure will be expensive, are there any other alternatives that I could use? The specs I found are "high-pass and low-pass, 3500 Hz at 24 dB per octave"
I'm working on plans for a new house that might be built in a few years, and want to get some other opinions on a good room size for a theater room. I'm currently using an Infocus X1 on a 112" wide by 52" tall screen. While I will probably have a different screen or even different projector when...
The Dewalt 616 does fit the jasper jig, though I had to use the holes listed for Porter Cable and buy new screws (none of the included ones threaded in properly). I've owned it for about a month now and have done roughly 27 holes for my Tempest box. Dust collection works very well, and I...
Where would I find the Closed-Cell foam at Lowes, and what exactly is it? I'm also picking up some of the finals items I'll need for my tempest, and will be making a trip to Lowes soon for MDF (no local store).
I'm ordering the rest of the parts I need from partsexpress now - does anyone know the part number of the correct port for the adire alignment? And polyfill, I've been reading past posts and can't determine if I should use it or not. Any advice on that?
So have them do a few cuts but several inches over, so that I can recut the edge? I watched them cut a sheet of MDF today and it seems hard to believe I'd be able to do a better job with just the circular saw and guide. Has anyone had them do all of the cuts and had good results?
I'm sure I'll have quite a few questions as I get started on this project, a tempest sub in an Adire Alignment box. Right now I'm still purchasing tools, though I have the driver and amp in hand. I bought a router and bits several weeks ago, but no table saw. Since I haven't bought the MDF yet...
The problem is those 36" clamps won't be long enough for the longest edge of the tempest and towers I'm building. Once you step up to the bigger clamps from harbor freight they're closer to $15. Are the band clamps not able to apply enough pressure?
I still haven't gotten any clamps. How well do these Merle Band Clamps work? Would a pair of these work, or would I still need bar clamps. I've read some old posts about them and one guy said to use them to line everything up square then use bar clamps. I'm trying to keep costs down at this...
I had the crossovers for my Infinity Perfect 6.1s stolen from my car over a year ago and want to get these back in use. I've check the spec sheet from Infinity and this is all I found on the crossovers: Crossover Frequency: 3.5kHz, 24dB/oct. Linquitz-Riley Acoustic Can anyone point me in...
I'm getting ready to order from routerbits.com but I have two quick questons. Should I get the spiral upcut with 3/4" or 1" of cutting length, and the regular or deep rabbeting set? Also, if I only get the jasper jig that goes from 2-1/4" to 18-3/16", how do I do the 2" tweeter holes for the...
Well, I spent $130 on that skil set I'm taking back, but I don't want to spend much more then that right now on bits. I think I'll skip the box sets for now and just get the whiteside bits that I need.
So would this cover everything I need for this project: Spiral Upcut #903 1/4" - 1/2" shank #903 $17.00 $17.00 Router Bit Set 15 Pc 25 Year Anniversary Set 1/2" shank #8377 $39.95 $39.95 Rabbeting kit 3/8",7/16",9/16",1/2", 1-1/2" Lrg Dia - 1/2" shank #8669 $28.00 $28.00 It looks like...
I'm tempted to take everything back and get the Hitachi M12V and the woodcraft bits. Does having seperate fixed and plunge bases just make it easier to switch around? Does the M12V still work well fixed to a table? The only other thing is dust collection. I couldn't tell from the picture and...
Any links on building tables like that? I did get a Dewalt router with fixed and plunge base, though with bits I think I spent too much today, and might take it back and get that one from amazon. Speaking of bits, I spent $130 on a 30 piece Skil carbide set. It seemed if I just bought a few...
Thanks for the link Dan, though I see Harbor Freight has them pretty cheap as well. Should I get them long enough to clamp the longest boards together? I'd like to just pick up 4 or even 8 of the $5 24" clamps, but they'll only fit around 2 of the 3 ends of my various future projects.
Where is a good place to get the clamps? I was looking at sears.com and they seemed pretty expensive. What's a good size to get for making speakers? One other thing about getting a router. Do you think the $200 Porter is worth it for this? There is a craftsman 9.5 amp with 1/4" collet for $90...
Thanks, that answered most of my questions. What about a router table? I guess I'll hold off on a table saw for now. One thing I heard about was cutting the boards a bit over, then using a flush trim bit on the router after 2 boards are already glued together. Any adivce in regard to this option?
I've never done much woodworking so all of my current tools focus more on cars, though I do have a drill press and a circular saw. For building speakers boxes, what are the must have tools? I don't want to spend any more then a couple hundred dollars on my inital tool investment, though I might...
I'm using an Infocus X1 in my basement, which is roughly 30'x14'7'. It has a drywall ceiling and concrete walls, both painted white. While it is 100% light controlled, I think there is still way too much light bouncing around the room from the projector. What are the best options, for both the...
Albert - thanks for the advice on having three identical speakers for the front. Axiom is the brand I've been leaning towards for my new 7.1 setup, but how important is it to have all three front speakers at the same height? I know I'd want the left and right to be at or near ear level, but that...
My short list right now is the ELT system from av123.com for $899 or a set from Axiom (RAD is another I'm looking into). ELT is definately less expansive - I could get the ELT system (which includes a sub) and 2 extra bookselves for about $1100. Axiom would be close to $1400 without a sub for...
I took advantage of the denon 3803 deal at 6ave and will be receiving it on Monday. This will be replacing my Sony DE835, which has long needed replaced (the motorized volume knob recently failed). Below is my current speaker setup, all Acoustic Research: (2) P428 PS Towers (1) AR2C center...
When this converts s-video up to component does it convert it to 480p? The component input on my projector only accepts progressive signals, so I'd like to make sure I can actually use this feature if I get this receiver.
How does the 525 compare to the Denon 3803? The Denon is about $80 more for a refurb, but I like the much wider selection of inputs and the up-conversion to component. The one thing I think I'd miss from the 525 is the Logic 7, but I'm not really clear on how that works. Is it just used to...
I'm looking into getting a new 7.1 setup and I've been looking at Rutledge Audio Design. I've read only positive reviews of them so that is what I'm leaning towards, but I'm not sure if I should go with 7 Micros or a pair of M-1's for the front, a C-1, and two pair of monitors for the back...
