Upconversion that offer 4:3 pillar box?

I am going to try a 4:3 title tonight and see, but I played a non anamorphic widescreen the other night and had to use my players vertical zoom to get it to work correctly, so I am thinking I am pretty much hosed on true 4:3 material no? But is there a player that offers 4:3 pillar boxing for...

1st FP, SP5000 impressions, living room

I just installed my SP5000 last friday night.. I spent a ton of time with this projector over this weekend. Using the 76" Free Pull Down Screen. That screen is bigger than it needs to be vertically by pretty much, which is way cool as I still get a 66"+ 4:3 screen. I watch a ton of black and...

My head is spinning... geeesh, I don't think I have anguished over any purchase like this one since buying my HD display. :) svideo performance is most paramount in my choice here, even against conventional wizdom that says to use the Composite output. Ok, I am going to edit. This is...

    Sub speaker level input?

Can you hook the speaker level input up in parallel? In other words not have any satalites/speakers plugged into the output, but have your mains hooked up to them in parallel? I have been try'n to find a way to apply the DLS5000R DSP to my older CHT15 and still use the amp in the older...

    Subwoofer Sunday Shootout

SVS PB12-Ultra/2 -vs Velodyne DSL5000R Had a blast with the two subwoofers for a couple of hours. Finally getting RoomEQWizard running on my laptop, It was really cool watching the sweep extend strong down to 16hz on the SVS for sure. The DLS5000R was no slouch, the curves looked very similar...

    Sound analyzer, PC/Software

I searched some threads, and found quite a few references. But I would like to re-address this again, since most of what came up from a search was pretty old. What programs do most use these days? Of course I need to be able to measure the low end stuff too. I am leaning towards DSSF3...

Oh no, not another Presentation Projo thread

I have discouraged it in the past, but I have a chance to get a Mitsu XL1XU used, but I know the company and I'll bet the thing doesn't have 200 hours on it for like $300... Seems a good deal. At one time it did seem people were happy using these for HT, even being a presentaion projector...

    Widest ever? ever ever?

Pulled out my LD of Ben Hur over the weekend which I had not watched in forever plus a day. Taken back by the size of the screen I was getting, I looked on the box.. 2.76:1 preserved in OAR.... Wowsers... I found I really liked the field of view and the director really seem to use every...

    Main In's / Power Amp In's????

Seems this feature is going away on all the modern AVR's.... Drag for me, this is a feature I have used quite often through the years. They should allow Mutlichannel inputs to be asigned for either use somehow. I was hot after an H/K AVR7300, but I think I just realized there are no...

    Bridge-able amps and tri-mode?

    1. Do all bridge-able amps support the cheater tri-mode where you can place your subwoofer between the bridge while running your satalites as two channel? 2. Can you give me a list of some really small footprint powerful amps that have this feature and speaker level inputs?

    DCDi AVR????

I know about the H/K 7300.... What would be the most inexpensive AVR with the ability to take 480i video sources and use the Faroudja DCDi to give you Progressive Scan 480p out the Component Video output? Anybody really used this feature on their H/K 7300 on SVIDEO sources? Impressions...

Ok, I got Qty.7 Audiosource AMP/1A amps comming in. I got Qty.4 Gemini CX1000 stereo electronic cross overs. I guess my 1st try at this, will be a simple passive Capacitor type xover from my mids to my tweets in my factory non-bi-ampable 3 way JBL s38 speakers, just because it is an easy...

LCD RP I think I am sold on it

The Sony's have been catching my eye quite a bit lately and then last night I got to tweek a Panasonic PT-60LC14 and I have to admit, it was an extremely impressive Display. Only tested with DVD, but man was it good. The owner didn't have any widescreen DVD's, so I took the Jurasic Park and...

    LD Player w/Component Video?

I should know the answer to this one.... But I have to wonder still. Look at the picture of the rear of this player? Is this Component Video Out? Or could this be adapted to Component Video Out. RGBSync BnC connectors? I'd be looking for 480i Component Video out of it somehow...

    Anybody true bi-amping their HT???

From the pro audio world, Bi-amping / Tri-amping was always the way to go by the largest of margins. I'm thinking 14 power amps here and 7 channels of electronic cross over. Probably using two AVR's to provide all the power amps needed. Denon 4802 and a Pioneer 1014/1015 to achieve this...

    Denon 4802 question?

Is there a way to turn off the OSD for the Svideo out from the unit? When using zoom modes from this source, the OSD sort of whacks it out when I change volume is all. I sure didn't see it in the manual, if you can turn it off.

    Type connections poll of sorts

4:3 Big Sceens that offer native 16:9 mode?

I found out something last night about my new Philips, that sort of burns my ass. It clearly states everywhere in both pre-sales litterature and the manual. That a native widescreen mode is available for the HD 480p/1080i component video input. But in reality, that mode is only available...

    Cheap Faroudja DCDi DVD player

Sharp DV-S2U DCDi for $99 Well, I have been back and forth and back and forth on getting a new DVD player. Hard call because my current cheapie 480i with component out has seemed outstanding letting the TV provide the Progressive Scan. Ahhh but of course, just knowing it may be able to be...

PBS 4+ hours on reconstruction post civil war?

Really a great 2 parter presented in back to back segments in real widescreen HD. Makes you sort of realize the South sort of really won in the end.... Any thoughts or comments? I know I sure learned a ton of stuff, that surely was never covered when I was in school, thats for sure.
