The complete Dick Van Dyke Show on Blu-ray is currently only $63 at Amazon (it listed at $350), even cheaper than the DVD set of the series ($79). By comparison, The Andy Griffith Show is currently $75 for Season One alone. I was awaiting this release, but this seems an extremely high price...

I received my eBay set yesterday, and to my astonishment, it was shipped by Barnes & Noble! Sure enough, in addition to listing a pre-order for the new set, the retailer is listing and STILL SELLING the 11/1/2011 "Most Wanted" edition...for $218.51 under item code 0097360680041 at this URL...

Someone paid $999 to this same seller for a set on 6/24. That's asinine.

Seconding that... Subjecting fans of the series to this fiasco and ongoing waiting game is absurd.

I believe that the most likely interpretation of CBS' characterization, "inadvertently manufactured with discs that have potential technical issues," is that the rights to use the restored music cues are again in question. That is, I don't think the set would have been recalled for any other...

Does the episode show the Darlings singing "Salty Dog?" I think that was cut from the original release. I have checked out the new DVD set now, and it's great that Paramount has found a superior print of this episode, and that the tag/epilogue scene is now present...however...the...

Thank you Matt! Paramount evidently found the proper master for the episode, so this is an upgrade from the series DVD set in this respect.

How is the print quality for this episode ("The Darlings Are Coming")? In the earlier Paramount DVD release, not only was this particular episode incomplete, but the transfer was very murky, and of considerably poorer quality than all other episodes, as the original master either could not be...

I could not agree more with you on this... There is nothing worse than having this information printed inside the case in a manner that forces you to remove the first or last disc in a set to see it. Okay, there's one thing worse, and that's when they don't include an episode list at all!

Thanks Mike. There is more to come, including of the Universal lot seen in the series, as well as interior set photos (of the living room, dining room and kitchen at least...photos of Ward's den and the boys' room remain elusive)

Some of you may be interested in my Leave it to Beaver-related site, which focuses not so much on the series itself, but on the studio backlot where the series was filmed beginning with the 3rd season...when the Cleavers moved to "211 Pine St." at Universal Studios...

I just received word that the release date of the complete series set has been moved to 6/29/2010. The third season release date is still set for 6/15/2010.

Disc 1 in my copy of the new version of "Help" is defective, and I will be returning the set to Best Buy for exchange. There are no visible flaws, but the disk freezes sporadically throughout...something I have frankly never seen happen with any other DVD.
