There have been several threads on this board about the Suitcase Pimps SACD "love is grand"...it is an amazing record. The best place to get it is on cdbaby.com although tower online carries it as well. Modern rock with a taste of the Kinks.
Yo man if your looking for some modern rock on SACD look no further than the Suitcase Pimps SACD. You can get it from cdbaby.com for 12.97 and it flat out kills. The songwriting is superb and the performance and sonics are top notch. You heard it here first.
If you want to hear another cool intro...check out the one before "Mean Street" off of Fair Warning....I agree Fair Warning is one of their best. Van Halen I is a must have. Check out "I'm the One" of off VH I that song is insane! Van Halen 2 has some nice moments as well.
I notice the difference in the layers on my system. The SACD layer seems to have more life, more "air". Love is Grand is one of my fave tracks. I like the sarcasm in the lyrics as a whole. It's dark but there is a sense of humour underlining it.
If you listen to the outro solo on "Save me" you will hear the David Gilmour influence there is one note he hits that is identical to the solo on Comfortably numb. Vocally I agree with you that they do sound like the Kinks!
Who else out there has this disc? I see it's back in stock over at Tower. My favorite tune is "Happy Face" which in my opinion is the groups "stairway to heaven".
That Suitcase Pimps Disc is the bomb. Finally some new music that appeals to both the classic rock fans and the new rock kids. These guys are the new "pink floyd". If you don't have it, get it, if you got it, rock on!
Yeah I noticed that as well Phil. Also noticed Tower does not have it in their stores it is a special order thing. Might be a limited run of this disc.
Subliminal message do exist...at least sometimes backwards messages are placed in songs. But the real question is does the brain hear them and understand them?
Just found this answer to my question on the audio asylum board. "Man, that train still gets me. It's about 1/2 mile away and sounds so real with the phones on. It was pretty much a happy accident. What's also amazing is the mego low end response of the Neumann head. I got to hear the outro...
I wish someone could tell me how they recorded the grand finale on this! I mean it sounds surreal. You can hear a train going off in the distance and man it freaks, let alone the fact that it sounds like your being buried alive. Did they bury a michrophone?
Thanks for the link Michael. That is a very enlightening post up at audioasylum. I know alot of us are curious as to what is used in the recording process and he gives out quite a bit of quality information. ;)
If you like great guitar playing you should check it out. Jeff Coffin from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones guests on sax as well. There are also alot of cool sound effects inbetween songs that sound killer in the new format.
I found a real gem that probably not alot of you have heard of. The Suitcase Pimps SACD fills a void in modern rock SACD's. My music tastes run the gamut of Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, as well as a taste for well played modern rock. Love is Grand is a`great sounding SACD by a group of...
I have been digging the new SACD from the Suitcase Pimps. It's called "Love is Grand" I think the only place you can get it is on cdbaby as it appears to be an independant release. Nonetheless it sounds incredible and the musicianship is stellar. Reminds me of a modern rock Pink Floyd...
