The Egyptian is being released in Scandinavia in November by SoulMedia as a DVD Blu-ray combo edition.
The funny thing is that this is a budget release here in Norway, priced at approx $14 plus local sales tax (25%).
We got a few early copies delivered at work on Monday, so I have had the Scandinavian edition since then. Really nice looking set. It looks different than the US edition. The face hugger on the front of the box is much better looking in real life. It stands out about 1/3 of an inch from...
Correct on DVD, but not correct regarding Blu-ray. 480i material is in many cases encoded in 60hz. If you check several of Warner's European and US releases (like 2001 and Harry Potter 2, 3 & 4) you'll see that the discs are identical. Exceptions are usually independent titles and New Line...
The PAL-problem is usually an issue only if the the company releasing the title just have the rights in PAL territories. All European Blu-ray players can play NTSC-material fine, so for a company with global rights there is no point in doing both a PAL and an NTSC version.
I remember the original DVD being one of the first DVDs that I felt really got everything right. That I loved the movie probably didn't hurt.
Probably a day one purchase for me.
In no order: Seven Samurai (Criterion 3 disc) The Searchers (SE) Forbidden Planet (50th Anniv. Edition) Grand Prix Kingdom of Heaven (4 disc) The Maltese Falcon (SE) Saturday Night Live - Season 1 Clerks II Serenity (R2/R4 2 disc edition) King Kong (2005) (2 disc)
Finally! I have been waiting for a proper release of Yojimbo & Sanjuro since the dawn of the DVD-format. I have been wishing for a perfect release since Criterion'a first (dreadful) release of these masterpieces. What Criterion did with Seven Samurai recently certainly gives me high hopes...
When he returns the lady, his wallet, the booze and everything else is gone. The scene only lasts for a few seconds.
I know there are other differences between the Norwegian theatrical cut and the US one, but I can't remeber them. Since the US laserdisc was in fullscreen (open matte i...
Sadly this release is incomplete. The Norwegian theatrical and VHS releases included an extended scene early in the film. At 15:55 (the new R1 DVD) after Lloyd (Carrey) leaves his wallet with the old lady, you saw him coming back looking for her calling "Little Old Lady?" before he...
Yes. The problem was that Warner issued an incorrect press release. All the online shops used this information, not checking the disc. The cover says 1.77:1 Fullscreen and 2.0 soundtrack, so Warner clearly needs to spend a little more time on error checking.
It was released in the UK on Monday the 24th, and it is schedueled to be released in Norway on Wednesday the 2nd. So for those with region 2 equipment there's not much waiting left. -Marius
Is is possible that this is an R2 only release? The source is London-based, and the European DVD editions of Leon are of the US theatrical cut. -Marius
Here in Norway, The Black Cauldron didn't get a theatrical release at all. This was becaue it was given a higher rating than the other Disney animated films. I believe some tie-in's were available, but for the most part people did not know about this film. This lead to an interesting story...
The Japanese (allmost) always include the original language track. But an English subtitle track would be unlikely, so you will probably have a problem with the Japanese dialogue scenes. -Marius
The Reservoir Dogs side break actually stopped me from buying the movie when it was released. I picked up the UK disc a few years later which had a good one. Ace Ventura Pet Detective had a good side break. Ace is knocked cold, and the screen goes black. And then you get the side break...
I have really been looking forward to this release. I really love the first movie, and the two others are also great entertainment. Happy to see that Universal gives us a great DVD with some quality extras. I just hope that the Sci-Fi Channel series eventually will show up on DVD. I...
Just found a hidden feature on the Aliens Extras disc. A 9m39s interview with Van Ling. As you all know, Van Ling had absolutely nothing to to with Aliens, but he has worked for Cameron ever since. This is the story of how he got to work with Cameron, because of Aliens. Sounds weird...
Gordon, The NOK 895 I am walking about is the list price including sales tax. That's approx £75, or £60 without tax, or exactly the same as in the UK. Sorry if I was a bit unclear on this. I expect to see the set on sale here in Norway for at least 20% discount. The Indiana Jones Box Set...
Just letting you know that I have updated the information on the Aliens Extras DVD. The DVD set is officially anounced in Norway now. A January release with a retail price of 895 Norwegian Kroner. (including 24% sales tax). -Marius
