    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Bandai Visual's more recent releases aren't easy to find because they lost their distributor (Geneon). I can recommend either Right Stuf (rightstuf.com) or Anime Corner Store (animecornerstore.com). The anime I own so far on Blu-ray: Wings of Honneamise, Jin-Roh, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in...

Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring availability

I didn't notice any ghosting, but I haven't had time to watch the films all the way through yet. The subtitles aren't overly large. Going by the screen caps, the colors definitely are a lot more saturated on this version. I think I'd still prefer this version because I can watch it on my...

Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring availability

Okay, here are some screen caps from Manon of the Spring. Note: The first cap contains nudity (to compare with the cap on DVD Beaver). http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6403/manon1ew0.jpg http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6267/manon2di4.jpg...

Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring availability

I just tried the DVD in my PC, and the VOB files on Manon of the Spring are from 4/16/2007. I've never seen the old discs in person, but I've read plenty about them. I was afraid this would just be a rehash (it looks that way from the packaging), and I feared the worst as I first put in the...

Borders has it on sale for $16.99 (along with Raise the Red Lantern) if you have one nearby.

Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring availability

Yes, that's correct. It's a flipper with a movie on each side.

Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring availability

The back of the case does state that the disc is double sided, single layer. I'm sure there's room for improvement, but these transfers aren't bad at all.

Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring availability

I picked up the new double feature disc last night, and both Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring ARE anamorphic. The transfers are quite good, too, and the price is great ($19.99 SRP for both movies). No complaints here.

Want Anime on Blu-Ray/HD? - Take out a loan

The standard def DVD that comes with the Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD is just a SD copy of the movie. In fact, it will be the only way to purchase a copy of the movie on standard DVD; the DVD is not being released by itself. We're getting the same BD/HD DVD that is being released in Japan towards the...

GameStop ends cash payouts for all used movies.

Yeah, some of their used DVDs sell for more than the amount they can be bought for new. Plus, they give you so little for your trade-ins, you may as well keep them in most cases. The stores around me usually have multiple copies of the same bad movies. But occasionally I do find a "diamond in...

Best Buy finally taking BR/HD-DVD seriously?

From what I have seen, it seems like studios and retailers are supporting Blu-Ray, while *consumers* are supporting HD DVD. It's a bit strange. Has anyone witnessed a customer buying a stack of Blu-Ray discs (I have seen this with HD DVD)? I can only assume that the stores are banking on the...

THE LITTLE MERMAID Platinum Edition: October 3rd, 2006

I'm getting the Japanese 2-disc edition, which has a great cover and the Japanese dub: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...V65400968_.jpg It is more expensive, though.

Potentially Positive News About Let's Scare Jessica To Death

I think this might be a film that is better appreciated if you saw it back when it was released, or when you were younger. I picked this up as a blind buy and I could barely stay awake while watching it. I watched the film with two friends -- one who had never heard of it, and one who had fond...

The Searchers HD DVD on 8-22-06 (Possible PQ Color Issue See Post #12)

I purchased my copy at Circuit City on Tuesday. The employee who helped me said that, according to their system, the title wasn't due to street for another two months. He did sell me the copy I'd picked up off the rack (for $24.xx), but then he took all the other copies off the floor. It took...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I read over on Anime on DVD that the My-Hime DVDs from Bandai don't work properly on HD DVD players, so I'm somewhat afraid they won't be playable in next generation players. Hopefully, Bandai will figure out what the problem is, but it may be too late for My-Hime. The only anime release I'm...

Problems with the Player for Specific Discs????

I encountered some video stuttering/audio dropouts for the first time with Sleepy Hollow. I currently have version 1.3 of the firmware, and I'm hoping 1.4 will rectify this. I had no problems with Serenity, Constantine, or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

    Paramount HD DVD sales surge!

Sleepy Hollow was a must own for me, but then I loved the whole Hammer vibe the movie had. I'd like to see more Tim Burton films on HD DVD.

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I'd be surprised if a woman liked Ai Yori Aoshi. It really is the typical male fantasy anime -- a "nice" guy suddenly finds himself living with a throng of attractive young women, including a "traditional" woman who's devoted her life to making him happy (this is the main fetish AYA caters to)...

Valley and Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls DVDS on June 13th See Post #23

I just watched Beyond tonight, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The DVD looked GREAT for a movie released in 1970. Throughout the movie, I thought I recognized Harrison Page from somewhere else. When I saw the credits, it dawned on me that he played Capt. Trunk in the Sledge Hammer! TV series.

The first episode of Urushihara's Front Innocent was released in the U.S. a while back by Media Blasters under the title Another Lady Innocent. I've seen it, and the artwork is gorgeous. As for what he's up to now, my guess would be episode 2 of Front Innocent. The first episode took a *long*...

    Hitachi RP LCD pincushion question

Last week, I had the light engine replaced in my Hitachi 50v500 RP LCD TV due to a large red cloud that had appeared on the screen. All seemed well, but today I noticed a couple of problems while viewing a 4:3 program. First, the 4x3 picture was way too far to the left. I corrected this in the...

Robot Chicken - Season 1 Music has been changed

Yeah, the first episode on Disc 2 is missing a sketch, the one where Beavis and Butthead join the Teen Titans. It's the reason that episode on the DVD only runs 8 mins. I haven't heard why the sketch had to be removed.

Christopher: Funimation has been taking the first few episodes of some of its TV series and making "movies" out of them. (Aside from Basilisk, they are also releasing a Trinity Blood "movie".) I haven't seen Basilisk myself, but I have seen Shinobi, its live-action counterpart (which Funimation...

Starship Troopers Versions Superbit, SE, vs. original.

The $9.99 sale on Superbit DVDs is still going on at Best Buy, but I haven't been able to find a copy of Starship Troopers for that price. At this point, it may not be worth the double dip. I'm sure a Blu-Ray version (this is a Sony title) is on the horizon. I figure that's part of the reason...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Yep. Those were certainly downers, too. One of the first anime tragedies I saw was Windaria. I was amused when, over 15 years later, I picked up the Criterion DVD of the movie Ugetsu and discovered that it was based on the same story (although Windaria added the fantasy elements). Probably...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I've seen the Kenshin OVAs but only a few episodes of the TV series (I prefer the art style and more serious tone of the OVAs). I did feel like I was missing something when I watched the last set of OVAs, as there were a lot of flashbacks to events from the TV series (but reanimated to match the...

Let's see. I picked up Spirit of Wonder for $17.99 ($29.99 - 40% off) at Suncoast only to find it at Best Buy a few days later priced at $11.99. Right now, I'm a little irritated because the big screen TV I purchased less than two years ago (a Hitachi 50V500) is having a problem...

    HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

When I double-dip on a title it's usually for better picture quality or an English-friendly version. While I can manage fairly well without subtitles, I like being able to show/lend titles to friends. In the case of Gunbuster, the LDs were a marked improvement in PQ over the VHS tapes, and the...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Lady and the Tramp--Highly Recommended if you please or don't please!!!

My guess is that the FastPlay "feature" is for parents who plan to use the DVD as a babysitter. All parents have to do is stick the DVD in, and their tyke is taken care of for a little over an hour. No fumbling with the DVD remote is necessary. Kids are not likely to care about OAR or original...
