Hi Mike, So what happened to the subwoofer before it was fixed? Did it not work at all? Because I had to bring mine in for service since it was having some "ticking" sound occasionally. However, after they fixed it, I don't have the "ticking" sound anymore. The technician told me it was...
I owned a pair of JMLab Cobalt 816S. Using a tube amp to drive it. I find that the sound is very detailed, transparent, great imaging, wide soundstage and very lively. The sound is little bit on the bright side. But when you pair it up with tubes gear or warm solid state amp. The sound is...
Hi, Go give the JMLab SW900 subwoofer a try. You will know its potential once you have heard it. Search "SW900" in the forum for Mike Duke review on the sub.
Apparently JMlab is very famous in the European country, especially France. But it needs time for it to develop their names over different continents. However, I have notice over these past years there are a lot more dealers that carries JMLab speakers. I guess, when the product greatly satisfy...
Mike, I think the JMLab sounds very different from the Dynaudio. Which Dynaudio line did you compare it with? To me the sound of the Dynaudio is very neutral and detailed, the bass is also very tight. While the JMLab to me always sound very lively, light and fast, and transparent. Also it...
Hi Mike, It seems like you have a very large collection of DVDs. (You even got the French movie "Brotherhood of the Wolf"). Coincidently I got that movie too (but in R4 of course) . LOL, the sound is really good and have a good atmosphere feel, but the movie is so-so. Do you listen to 2...
Hi Mike, Another great review of the JMlab speaker. By the way, how many days have you had this speaker for? It just released not long ago. And I think the speaker can do much more on top of what you were saying. Since JMLab speakers tend to have a much longer burn in period. They will sound...
Mike, If you have a chance you should listen to other subwoofer in its price range $US1700 - $US2500 and see what is the difference. Do you know if you can have an audition of an SVS sub. Because I really want to know how it compares with this one.I was thinking of getting an SVS sub before I...
Hey Mike, Yes, I agree with you that the B&W sub is no where near as good all their lower end sub performance is so-so. Except when you get into the B&W 850, which in Australia is about 50% more than the SW900. I do not feel that the performance was that much difference, although I think it...
Yes Mike, before I bought the SW900, I went nearly all over town looking for a sub. I heard others like, B&W 675, B&W 850 Velodyne 12" (forgot the model), Mission sub (forgot model), Linn Sub, Sunfire. To me the SW900 sounded more musical and blends in more than other subwoofers. Only the B&W...
Is the other pieces of Electra range speaker performance as suprising as the SW900. Because I am looking to get the center speaker. But no $$$ for now, so thinking of getting CC900 and 906 or 907Be currently. Can't afford the 901 and the 927Be like you have there.
Actually Mike, At the beginning, I have tried the JMLab SW700, and that was not very impressive comparing to other subwoofer in its price. However, after reading the home cinema choice review, it pesuades me to give the Electra SW900 a listen. After I listened to it, I decided to buy it because...
Yes Mike, I agree with you. Stats sometimes can be deceiving, because something that plays loud does not necessarily means that it produce the better overall sound. Because sometimes, you can get too much bass which sounds very fake and artificial.
Hey Mike, I was just wondering have you ever heard an SVS subwoofer. There are certainly lots of myths and legends around this brand of sub on the forum. How does it compare with the JMLab?
Yes, for me they sort of give me a better feel of the bass, especially for movie. It seems to spread out a little bit better with the spike. But that is just what I feel. I know other people in Hong Kong that actually buy better spikes and isolation plates because they notice the difference.
Although the Denon have higher power output than the HK. But it is the high current that makes the sound very dynamic and clean. I have a friend that have a Marantz 8300 which is @ 120W per channel. It was still having trouble driving an 86 dB speaker. There is practically no sound coming...
Hi Mike, Nice post, I owned a JMLab SW900. And what you have just mentioned in the review, is exactly what I want to say. Guessed you have said it 100% correct. Nice info too. :D About the 3dB boost, I didn't turn it on because I am afraid it might add some bominess or distortion to the...
Mike, What model is the transparent sub cable? I can't find it on their website. Also how much is it? and where did you buy it from? Because I live in Australia, therefore the price can be different here than in the US.
Hi Mike, Nice to hear another person in the forum have got the JMlab SW900. I am now hooking it up onto my valve amplifier to listen to music. The result was extraordinary, the bass just reinforce the lack of bass of the bookshelf speaker I have. I have also tried to hook up a better quality...
Hi, recently I have purchased a subwoofer. And after about 3 months of usage, I notice that whenever the subwoofer first turn on (auto on ) mode (ie. the receiver sending signal to the sub) it has a ticking sound (where it clicks for a few time and then it stops). The subwoofer did not sound...
Hi, Recently I bought an Onkyo SP800 DVD player. I find that the player did not sound good when playing cds. So I was thinking of adding an external DAC for the DVD player to listen to CD. However, because of limited funding. I am buying a secondhand DAC. There were two different one that was...
AT the start I suspected that it is the power cord too. ButI have bought another power cord on the system last 2 weeks. It is a very thick power cord and rated at 15A. However, the same thing happens. I will try to see if changing the whole power line to the whole socket would help. I just...
I am actually running the receiver with off the wall socket with an adaptor. The subwoofer is also connected on the same adaptor as the receiver. About the dust, my receiver is very clean and new so there is no dust in the system. It does not get hot at all when it shuts off. The...
Recently I bought the HK 525 and I was loving the sound and quality of it. Until about a month a so, there was problem with it shutting off with no reason. I watch movie for about 2 hours and then it just shutsoff and go into standby mode. When I press the power button, it does not turn on...
hey mike, I think that the HK 325 will be even better than the Yamaha RX2300 and Denon 2803 in sound quality, because I have compared the HK525 with it and it blows it out of the water. However, one thing you got to remember is that the HK do get quite hot, so you have to have enough space to...
How about the Audioquest GR8. I looked on the internet and it seems like they are having a clearance on the cable. at HCMaudio, I can get a bi wire pair for about 10 foot $129. Do you think the audioquest GR8 will be better than the CV4 or CV 6?. I am thinking of upgrading to a valve amp...
