If you send it UPS and fill out the UPS form to have UPS act as the broker, there are no brokerage fees beyond the UPS shipping charges. At least, that's what I've found.

I've returned equipment to the US without customs hassles. You just label it as equipment being returned to vendor for warranty repair and there are no problems. You can include your original receipt with the waybill as proof. The only downside I've found is that you have to pay for shipping.
