I recently upgraded my 2 channel setup going from a mid-fi stereo receiver to a Bryston amp and can say that a good quality amp does make a noticeable difference. Prior to this, I had upgraded my speakers to Onix Ref 1. I could not hear a lot of the difference that the speakers made until I...
THis is what extended warranties are for. In the case of the 1600, well worth the money, since the problem typically shows up after a year has gone by and the warranty has expired. Should be fertile ground for a class action suit IMHO.
Avoid downtown Toronto unless you are going to arrive in a Porsche. Otherwise consoder yourself lucky if they deign to acknowledge your presence. Did you say you wanted an at-home trial? Excuse me while I tell the boys in the back about this one...
Andrew you should have a look at the Tuner Information Center:star:. This is a site maintained by a tuner fanatic who has reviewed and ranked close to a hundred different tuners. He even provides ballpark ebay prices for used ones. Tuner Information Center

Thanks. I'd appreciate it. I currently have a Bryston amp and I am thinking of getting a tube pre-amp to soften the sound a bit. Don't want to lose the wonrderful detail though.
I believe that ChrisPATT and ChrisBee are referring to my post. Personally I believe that there should be a protocol for this kind of thing.... 1) work the system. If you don't get satisfaction, then... 2) complain as high up the ladder as you can get, and make it clear that if you don't get...
Mark's email address is plastered all over these forums. Personally, I would have contacted him BEFORE I started a campaign in the forums. Mark has an excellent track record for responding to customer concerns. I am not saying this because I have any sort of special relationship with AV123. In...
I am using 12 guage wire I got from Radioshack. Found it was better than DH Labs T-14 speaker cable (IMS,IMHO). I got some set screw banana plugs from (gasp!) Future Shop. Don't remember the price but if you factor in the cost of gas to drive somewhere to save a few bucks, it's probably a wash.
Brack doesn't have Paradigm, but they do have Dynaudio. Very nice speakers but mucho dineiro. They have a couple of very high end rooms you can't even get into unless you arrive in a Porsche ;), but they won't sneer at you if you pull up on a bicycle. Kromer carries Adcom as well as Anthem.
If you are interested in Paradigm Signatures, Kromer only has the S4s. They told me they don't want to bring in the S2s for listening beause then they have to carry the stock (!?). They have a higher end room upstairs but their bread and butter is automobile audio. Best to look up the dealers on...
My undestanding is that you need 7 speakers to fully take advantage of IIx. With 5 speakers it is the same as Prologic II. Maybe somebody can correct me if I am wrong.
What you need to do is look at the specs on the strip. Especially clamping time (the amount of time it takes to shut of surges) and power level (how much of a surge it can take before it blows up). You should try to get a strip with a clamping time of 1 ns (nanosecond) or less - means it takes a...
Another thing to watch out for is that US webtailers will let you have their stuff on a 30 day trial basis. The problem is that you have to pay the sales taxes to get the stuff inside of the country. If you don't want to keep it, you don't get that back.
I was a sceptic until I replaced my $35 copper 12 gauge Radio Shack speaker wire with $200 special "audiophile" speaker cable. The audiophile cable gave me a flat soundstage lacking in detail. I went back to the Radio Shack wire and the soundstage improved noticeably. This is not something I...
Why are you obsessing about this? Are you sure you're not a girl? He offered to replace it. He probably feels terrible. Take him up on his offer and stop whining for Christ's sake.
Typically you will never get the exact exchange rate that you see published in the paper. This is actually a theoretical value. If you go to a bank web site - for example, the Royal Bank's, and use their exchange rate calculator, you will get something closer to the truth. Similarly, credit...
Another advantage is low power consumption. Big power standard amps can suck up a kilowatt every hour. Really puts dollars on the old electricity bill.
If you send it UPS and fill out the UPS form to have UPS act as the broker, there are no brokerage fees beyond the UPS shipping charges. At least, that's what I've found.
I've returned equipment to the US without customs hassles. You just label it as equipment being returned to vendor for warranty repair and there are no problems. You can include your original receipt with the waybill as proof. The only downside I've found is that you have to pay for shipping.
