While its true that the local broadcaster wont compress it, they can devote less bandwidth to the HD signal to provide room for SD channels. This will make the HD feed pixelate more often. In this case, a slight compression by the cable company will be better than the pixelation of the local feed.
Unfortunately, that setting cannot be adjusted in the service menu. It definitly sucks, as I must have vertical overscan to leave the aspect ratio of the picture unchanged. I've heard that the horizontal amplitude is adjusted via a control inside the set that controls how far the electron beam...
The 1050i is Philips designation for interlaced line doubling of the original analog 525i source. The option to change the 1050i/Progressive (called "Eye Fidelity" or "Digital Options") is only availible on 480i sources. As far as the tint control is concerned, it is disabled on component...
This thread may interest you: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=497891 I know you don't have the 850H anymore, but I am willing to bet that the chassis are very similar and have many of the same parts. The service menu portion will probably be similar as well.
Please report back what you find. I've always wondered if the newer model suffered from the same problem. You really can't see this problem in the store since the ambient lighting makes it impossible to see.
I too am interested in this player and have come up empty handed when searching for information on it. I do have a few questions though: How is the picture quality compared to a player like the Pioneer DV-563a? Does it come in both colors, silver and black, or just black? What does the...
Since you own the 40BK, do you know if there is any difference, other than color, between the XV-N40BK and the XV-N44SL? I was looking through the specs and saw nothing that jumped out at me. Also, they have the same manual (which means they can't be all that different).
I was looking in the manual for that player and it didn't say specifically what zoom mode to use. Do you just use the 1.8 that is says is good for 4:3 displays to get rid of the black bars? Ryan
I'm sorry, I was replying to Ed's post about having to switch inputs for interlaced or progressive. I have no clue about what could be causing the lines that Samual posted about.
The problem that older Philips HD sets had was that they had two component inputs, one that accepted only 480i, and the other only accepted 480p or 1080i. The newer Philips sets component inputs accept 480i, 480p, and 1080i. That is a good suggestion for the DVD player. I thought about...
both component inputs accept a 480i, 480p, or 1080i so all you'll need to do is switch the player back and forth from interlaced to progressive, with no cable swapping needed. ;)
Doubt you would see any improvement for the reasons you stated. The conversion has to happen somewhere with a CRT. But if you still want an OTA only receiver, I'd look at the LG LST-3100A which does have DVI. Ryan
Yeah thats one way, but I've got mine hooked up with a radeon w/ component adapter. The problem that i've run into, is that I can't tell if it is my tv that is overscanning or is shifted one way or the other, or if it is my timings. I think it would be cool if some of the digital channels would...
if you can, you could use the dvd with a pc that can output 1080i, but then you'd have to be sure that the signal from the pc is correctly centered, which can be a job and a half just by itself.
I think as time goes on, the black bar situation will go away. I am a college student and I don't mind the black bars. I also work at a walmart, and most of the people that I talk to that don't like the black bars are older people. Most of my friends don't care if it fills their whole screen or...
Link Removed That site has a handy calculator. But to answer your question, you'll need around a 34" widescreen to have the same 27" 4:3 that you have now. Ryan
The only way to disable SVM on Philips sets is to physically cut wires inside the set. Bad news, I know, as I've been trying to figure out how to do it for about 6 months.
I have the 30PW850H and have been very happy. The retail was originally a grand, but has come down in price since then. I agree about the black thing, but this silver set doens't show dust on the cabinet like my old set did, which is a good thing.
It is definitly worth it if you can take advantage of the progressive scan games. If you have an analog set, you wont see $35 dollars worth of difference in the picture over S-Video.
I was kinda wondering the same thing. I would like to be able to listen to my DVD-A's in the car, but I can't. That is one of the main reasons that I prefer SACD's is that most of the time, they have a cd layer that I can play in my car. Ryan
I think the ones you are refering to, the small 1" or so adapters that go inline, I think that those just combine the luminance and chrominance signal to the center pin of the rca and then the ground to the outside. This is purly a guess on my part, but highly doubt that there are any...
I can confirm that the Philips remotes work quite well. If you really want a factory replacement, they are pretty salty, but can be had at the samsungparts website (cant post urls yet). If you can live without the menu and cursor keys on the remote, the Philips work wonderfully. Ryan
That sucks about 16:9 on Twin Snakes. I'd rather a game have 16:9 instead of progressive because my set locks to widescreen when feed a 480p signal. But at least it has 480p for those of you who have tv's that can to 4:3 progressive.
You are the auto detector. When a show you want to watch is in HD, you'll have to turn your tv over to the component inputs and use the t151. If you want, you can still use the t151 for stuff that isn't in HD, but it will show it with black bars on the sides. So if you have a 4:3 set, you'll end...
I work at walmart and even there, we have several HD sets, of which all the big screens and one of the tubes is widescreen. The widescreen HDs sell better than the 4:3 HDs but nowhere near as good as the old analog sets. Basically because most walmart shoppers are concerned with value instead of...
In HD, the Pixel plus and Digital Natural Motion have no effect. So for HD sources, the sets will preform very close to each other. For NTSC, those featers i've heard will make a big difference, although no stores around where I live carry the 9819s. The sonys have a better HD picture than the...
