Looks like next weekend will be the weekend for Avatar to sink Titantic.
It's at $571mm and change after Friday, so it should get to at least $585mm by Sunday. Give it a conservative $10mm for Mon-Thurs to bring it up to $595mm heading into next weekend. So Friday, February 5th should be the...
So much has already been said in this thread that most of my thoughts are already covered. The one thing I will say, is that these films could have taken much more advantage of the DVD medium than they have, a la Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson so skillfully and artfully made use of the...
I disagree with this completely. I think people have such a distorted view of Miami Vice the show. Everyone thinks it's all glitz, glamour, and bright colors, but that's not what made the show what it was. Miami Vice is a dark cop drama about walking that fine line between crime and justice...
I agree that you can't put much into these midweek numbers. It's at least 1 week and more like 2 or 3 before colleges get out. That's one of the reasons I've been surprised by the studios pushing the summer releases up more and more each year. I really think the 3rd week in May is the earliest...
Letters From Iwo Jima goes in at number 1. What a wonderful film. Clint Eastwood's big risk project pays off in spades. Little Miss Sunshine drops out.
This list has a long way to go, as I have so many more films I want to see. Here's version 1.2: 1. Letters From Iwo Jima 2. Superman Returns 3. Thank You For Smoking 4. Brick 5. Casino Royale 6. The Prestige 7. The Departed 8. Stranger Than Fiction 9. Miami Vice 10. Inside Man...
You're going to start seeing more and more of this kind of thing. Hollywood is moving toward securitizing future receiveables on blocks of films in a big way. It's actually very smart on their part, and will allow MUCH less money to come out of pocket for production purposes.
Well, I didn't grow up watching noir...in fact I was never really into the genre. I loved the film. I thought it was fantastic and extremely well executed. I even ran out the next day and bought the dvd to support the artist.
You don't have to report birthday or grad money (maybe I misinterpreted and this was a joke/sarcasm). Gifts up to $11k in value are exempt from taxation.
It's not meant to be an accurate portrayal of conversations between modern day high school kids. It's a throwback detective story dropped into a high school setting. The dialog is what you would expect to find in a '30s era period piece.
The other thing I loved was the actual sound of gunfire in the movie. Why is it so hard for filmmakers to use accurate sound with gunfire instead of the fake, muffled popping you always get?
I really really enjoyed this movie. After this and Collateral, Mann has become one of my favorites. As for some of the complaints, to each his own I guess. I think some people who are complaining or commenting that the movie isn't enough like the tv show have forgotten what the show was like...
Wow, that was fast. People here are good. Thanks for that. I remembered very little about the beginning of that movie, just that it got really weird once they made it into space. Maybe I'll find a chance to pop it in my Netflix queue.
I remember seeing this movie when I was younger. I can hardly remember anything about it, but it had something to do with a kid, or kids, ending up in outerspace on some weird alien ship. I think the kids made some sort of spaceship themselves to get there, but I can't really remember. Anyone...
Just saw a trailer for this on Universal HD. It looks really interesting, and definitely caught my attention. I'll definitely be on the look out in the Baltimore/DC area, hoping for a theatrical release.
There are a number of films I have yet to see, so this list will probably be heavily edited over the next month or so. Top Ten of 2005 1. Batman Begins 2. Munich 3. The Matador 4. King Kong 5. Crash 6. Hustle and Flow 7. Syriana 8. Walk the Line 9. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...
I've always wanted a Pronto, but I can't afford the high end options. I just read up on the Harmony remotes a bit, and they look pretty good. I'm trying to decide between the Pronto TSU-3000 and the Harmony 880. Does anyone have any experience with these remotes? Any suggestions or advice...
Ok, well I know it's not the cables, because I'm using decent ones, and I've tried different ones to no avail. How would I go about checking the ground? I have HD running through my dish and 2 OTA antennas that are connected. These both hook up with my HD Tivo receiver. Obviously my DVD player...
I have a Pioneer Elite RPTV (53" model, can't remember number). I have recently started experiencing image problems when I view material from digital sources (HDTV and DVD). What I'm seeing are some horizontal lines running across the screen at random intervals, and they move up and down. They...
Clooney's appeal has always been to the 35+ demo...maybe 30+. He never had a lot of pull with younger women, at least not any that I knew/know. Compare this to Christian Bale, who all the females at my law school (22-29) seem to be very aware of (they know him from Newsies).
I think this is a good thing. The AMCs I've been in have been very nice theaters with comparatively high presenation values. Where I used to live, Loews had the biggest and nicest theater, but the presentation quality tended to suck.
