Specs for a Blue-Ray/HD DVD Computer

I've been hearing that 1gb RAM is a min for hi-def (with Vista, definitely get 2mb), 3ghz min proc, and you need 256mb vid ram clocked at like 250mhzX2 (DDR) at least.

Sooner or later, HD-DVD/BR double, triple, quadruple dipping will occur.

get over it, as long as they are adding value for each dip, then it is justified. furthermore, no one has a gun to your head telling you to purchase an inferior edition. there is netflix and blockbuster if you are morally opposed. Furthermore, for all the joy LOTR brings to me, i had no...

*** Official V FOR VENDETTA Discussion Thread

Just to answer some above posters' questions: Actually, I found the depictions of torture and oppression to be quite accurate representations...of China, Iraq, Iran, etc.

Chuck & Robert: Considering the Wachowski's purposeful injection of contemporary politics into the source material, your objections are puzzling, but shall be respected. The main theme of the movie was freedom. The conflict inherent to the plot stemmed from politics and how it stymies...

*** Official V FOR VENDETTA Discussion Thread

Before I comment, I would like to respectfully request that we suspend the rule about no political discussion, as this movie is impossible to discuss cogently without involving politics. The very subject matter of the movies is politics, the powerful against the powerless. A discussion that...

    Batman Begins (2005)

Paul_Scott: that guy is the ONE for Joker! I bet you they will pick him. ALSO, you guys have it all wrong on the combat. We did NOT see Batman's combat training in that movie. We merely saw the honing of it. Bruce knew all the fighting styles BEFORE he ever came to Ducard. Ducard says...

    Batman Begins (2005)

I didn't like how Oldman piloted the batmobile at the end. But my main complaint was that the fight scenes weren't more zoomed out. I agree that it was probably the inhibiting nature of the suit. I think you got just enough of the fighting to understand B's fierceness and tactics. Like...

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

I think Nils argument proves the Adam Smith quote correct: "From private vice comes public virtue." At least in the short run, IMO Nils is right, the format war is great! ;p

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

Maybe they'll work out some type of joint patent or royalty agreement using the JVC dual-format technology we heard about awhile ago. "There was never much hope...just a fool's hope."

How Good are the Star Wars spinoff movies like Droids?

Clone Wars DVD was awesome! That's why I want to know about these DVD's. Two Questions: 1.) Do the Droids & Ewoks DVDs contain all the episodes that were produced? 2.) Joseph Demartino: find out what DVD that was and how I can get it ! :)

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

George, I'm not even arguing DVD is bad, only that "convenience" isn't as big a reason for DVD's success as was being argued. As odd as it sounds, I know plenty of blue-collar ppl who think DVD is inconvenient. And I know I have a habit of losing mine... and try backing one up to a hard drive!

    Just wondering... anything interesting?

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

In some ways DVD's aren't more convenient. they're easy too lose, scratch, and mix up. You can't resume at the exact place you left off. And many older people know nothing about how to operate the menus. My grandma's a smart woman but she hates bothering to navigate with the remote, so she...

Nils: I have total respect for you & your thought process, but I think you are being overly cynical! It is very hard for me to disprove a negative view of the *future*: I can't provide "proof" for you until we're there! Crucial thing you forget: "The goal of sales/marketing is to make ppl...

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

Nils: If this is the bulk of your argument I hope you would keep an open mind :P I say this b/c, 5% of US households has probably already been surpassed. Isn't it 10% with DTV's, and of those, moe than 50% probably support 720 or greater resolution? And the DTV adoption rate is probably...

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

Nils & Jason: You haven't said *why* you think the Hi-def formats will move at a snails pace. Nils: If i had to guess, those IDC numbers are WAAAAAY pessimistic. Finally, Sony would be an IDIOT to launch the PS3 at anything more than $400 in the US for any substantial duration...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Incredibles -- INCREDIBLY RECOMMENDED!!!

IS there really room, Chris? I mean, didn't the characters learn all they needed to learn? And if they aged the kids, you've now made the film a little less accessible to children.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Incredibles -- INCREDIBLY RECOMMENDED!!!

As much as I liked The Incredibles, I don't think any of the characters is commercial enough to pull off another theatrical feature film... Maybe a short or a straight-to-home video. The film felt more like a perfectly executed story than a compelling world to me. Plus, a company that does...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Incredibles -- INCREDIBLY RECOMMENDED!!!

AMC Theaters: Concave-screen and which sound format?

Only feature of SDDS is more front channels... Theater sound is still horrible. Movie sound is wishy washy, home theater sound is truly directional with proper setup. Yay!

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Incredibles -- INCREDIBLY RECOMMENDED!!!

The audio is truly superb. Your review is spot on. How much do you wanna bet that Skywalker Sound is responsible for yet another transfer? If so, they have overcome their boomy bass compressin system from ROTK. Is anyone ELSE noticing that Skywalker Sound has been adding a height...

You think YOu have a horror story? I DID buy the Fullscreen copy by accident! HOPEFULLY Best Buy will let me exchange it since i work there!!! This is the first time it has happened to me b/c I was in a hurry. and now I see why you guys complain that they even release a fullscreen.

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

Benson: The PS2 didn't destroy the market for DVD players. Even if the PS3 will destroy the Bluray market, Sony doesn't care, b/c they barely make any cash from their Consumer Electronics division. If anything , they would LOVE to destroy the Bluray market if it meant filling your home...

There u go, Michael :) The PS3 might be the trump card, unless X-Box Next just PWNS the console war. Microsoft HAS replaced Nintendo in the console sector, so who knows what they are capable of. If there was any justice, they'd be the #1 console, as their games have certainly better individually...

Looks like the Donner cut of Superman II may have jumped through its legal hurdles!!!

    A few words about....Blu-Ray

To Kyle_D: Smart thinking. I think Sony would have already won this format war had they worried about the studios earlier on, it seems like all they have been doing is the hardware side. They've been showing tech demoes at trade shows, yet their studio release title announcement came out...

First film mixed in 10.2 premieres Monday

According to the website, apparently Gary Reber, editor of WSR and preimminent supporter of surround sound, likes the mix, so it must be pretty darn immersive. Ernest, ove your subwoofer around and you might feel the positioning yourself... Maybe not the 20-30 hz stuff, but certainly the sub...
