Not a big deal for me. I'm only on a 2 at a time plan so it's an extra 3 bucks a month. Between all the great BR discs that keep getting released and the streaming option that I use frequently on my Xbox360, I still think my subscription fee is a good value.
Bill at Digital Bits just posted an update. Magnolia says they are going to reprint the DVD and Blu-Ray with the original theatrical subs, but they will not be doing any exchanges for the dumbed-down versions.
Looks like Magnolia really screwed up on the subtitles this. Basically, the translations of the dialog in the subtitles is abridged (dumbed down?) in a lot of spots. Look here and scroll down a bit for some examples. Having seen this in the theater with the original subs and really liking it...
Considering at least half of JC's movies have been remade or are in the process of being remade, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there's a remake for this under development.
Yeah, it seems like a pretty dumb move and a waste. They spent all that money and time marketing the name GRINDHOUSE and the concept (which included all the fake trailers).
Curious why they can't also just sell a set of these with Grindhouse as a bonus disc. Is it a rights issue similar to the full cut of Kill Bill perhaps?
After watching Sorcerer for the first time and being thoroughly disappointed by the DVD that's currently available (not OAR, bad PQ, and no extra features), I did some Googleling and saw that William Friedkin had said last year that a 30th anniversary edition was in the works. Since the 30th...
After spending years accumulating various media (books, music, cds, etc.) I've made a point to stop purchasing more than I can consume in a timely fashion. Now that I'm on the HD train I rent a lot more than I used to buy, and I'm fine with it, because a lot of the dvds I bought were watched...
I was always surprised that there wasn't a commentary track that included Robert Graysmith. That would have been a nice addition. I'm still really looking forward to this. It was the main title that almost had me considering getting an HD-DVD player.
I enjoyed Devil's Rejects, but personally I thought this was a step back for Zombie. I don't think it was very effective take on Myers. He removed a lot of the mystery from the character. And some of the scenes bordered on unintentional comedy. I'd probably rate this right up there with...
I know that Harry Knowles at aintitcool.com was pretty pleased with the disc. When people brought up with other reviewers were saying about it, he insisted it looked great on his setup.
I'll bite at $90 or less, which I'm sure what Amazon will have it at. Now with this almost out of the way, can we start anticipating Apocalypse Now? :)
I'll definitely be buying the all the Argento ones. They're not really my faves, but I'd love to see Susperia, Opera, and some others hit the format and I want to show some support. :)
Twin Peaks Miami Vice Arrested Development (airs on HDNet currently, and looks great) Freaks and Geeks The Office (UK and US) Battlstar Galactica (both versions) Star Trek B5 Andy Richter Controls The Universe (not even on DVD yet)
I think my (slight) issues with Kung Fu Hustle stems from my belief that it was a bit of a retread of Shaolin Soccer. KFH was technically a "better" film maybe, but I just enjoyed SS more, especially since it was my first exposure to Chow. CJ7 to me felt like one of Chow's older (but still...
This will probably be my first TV show purchase on Blu-Ray. Fantastic show all around - the writing and acting are excellent, and the eye-popping colors and art direction really shine in HD. I watched this on Comcast HD and it looked really good, but I can't wait to see it on BR disc.
I saw it in the theater, and I thought it was pretty funny and probably a step above KFH (if more kid friendly). What I'd really like to see though is Shaolin Soccer on Blu-Ray. I'll be first in line for that whenever it's announced.
I don't buy many TV shows on DVD, but I sure would love to have a complete collection of Larry Sanders. But I'm also curious as to what's up with SMDM and TJ Hooker.
I'm only a moderate NIN fan (I haven't bought any of their cds since Broken), but I'm thinking of getting this only because I really like the idea of music releases on Blu-Ray.
