They all seem to be getting a turn at the lightbulb moment this season.
Another amazingly subtle product placement from Ford this week - blink for 30 seconds and you would have missed it!
It's Garry Shandling's Show DVD news: It's Garry Shandling's Show - The Complete Series | TVShowsOnDVD.com It's coming...and a complete series set as well. I've recently watched season 1 having downloaded some off-air broadcasts and thought it was fantastic. I will be all over this set.
I gave up waiting for Fox ages ago and have been acquiring season 2 onwards by "other means". This is a truly hilarious series that has not dated even slightly, and it is an utter travesty that the remaining seasons haven't been made available.
I received season 11 of Cheers through the post yesterday, so that now goes on my list of completed series which also includes:
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Frasier
Friends
Seinfeld
Sex And The City
Curb Your Enthusiasm (until the next season is aired)
Reba Season 5
Absolutely shocking DVD release.
Firstly the episodes are presented in 4:3 instead of the broadcast widescreen. Secondly, the 22 episodes are on two double-sided discs, each with seven episodes on one side and four on the other. You can imagine how poor the picture quality is...
Perhaps, given that there are only to be 9 episodes in season 3, they are holding out to do a combined season 2 & 3 set, which would fit nicely as 31 episodes on 4 discs. Probably not, though. So neither Old Christine nor Reba is apparently a success on DVD. Two relatively well-rated modern...
I've had the season 1 set since release date. Why is no-one else buying it? Luckily I have all the season 2 and 3 episodes acquired by "other means", as it's probably the only way I'll get to see them. I would still buy the DVD sets as soon as they were released, though.
Having just watched "Cradle To Grave", it seemed to confirm my theory that what we have here is a potentially decent, if somewhat retro, newsroom comedy that's unnecessarily dragged down by the presence of late-period Frasier. Imagine this show with Patricia Heaton as the lead, playing a...
Interesting typo - perhaps "Davemen" would have been a much better series. The misadventures of a bunch of blokes all called "Dave"? Perhaps I'll start writing the pilot now.
An RRP of $39.99 seems expensive, especially as apparently not enough people bought Bob Newhart at $29.99. Perhaps this is Fox's new strategy for their unreleased shows. Release season 1 at too high a price so it doesn't sell enough, then use the fact that it doesn't sell enough as a reason...
It would be great to see this released, but unless Fox has done a job of managing its expectations of archive release sales, I can't see it getting past a couple of seasons.
Episode 5 was the best one yet in my opinion Sheldon's "This may be my new Tuesday hamburger" bit reminds me of both my own eating schedule (I have a Thursday night pizza, Wednesday night cannelloni etc), and of the way I have to occasionally rearrange my DVD watching schedule to accomodate...
It was actually "long ass balls" that Larry was suffering from, according to Leon! What about the scene in the restaurant when Larry was mocking the man talking into his Bluetooth? How many of us would like to do that? This episode was sad and funny at the same time, as one by one Larry's...
Just watched episode 5 - I can't see the "Wankerman" line getting through when it's shown on British TV. I remember the outrage when Channel 4 mistakenly aired the episode of Mork and Mindy which featured the landlord called Arnold Wanker.
Is "Glaucoma medicine" a US-only euphemism for some other drug? I've heard it used in several other shows before, but I still don't know what it means. I thought this was another strong episode - I hope this show is doing well in the ratings.
This is getting better with each episode. I like how they are giving plenty of air time to the supporting characters - I'm half inclined to think their story is more interesting than the main characters. Also good how they are actually making some use of the newsroom situation, rather than just...
I enjoyed the second episode - good traditional farce sitcom. The problem for me is that I can't get the separation from Frasier yet, and not just with Kelsey. Ryan reminds me of Kenny so much that I'm always expecting him to call Chuck "Doc".
Any comments on the opening episode of this yet? It reminded me a lot of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, especially over the first 20 minutes, although with too many Ted Baxters and not enough Lou Grants. I'm also finding it hard to see Kelsey Grammer as anyone other than Frasier, but he...
I believe that The Family Channel, which existed from 1993-97 in the UK started showing Mary Tyler Moore, but I don't know which episodes they showed, or how far they got before The Family Channel morphed into Challenge TV.
Does anybody know how long the episodes were when originally broadcast?
It is currently being shown over here on TMF, and the episodes are coming in at about 23 mins (at PAL speed). Unusually for this day and age, the credits are not being talked over or squashed, but unfortunately they spoil...
This will be the fourth worldwide release for series 1. It was originally released in bare-bones form (with ad-caps removed) in the UK by ClearVision in 2002, but they never followed up with later series. A couple of years later, Umbrella released a vastly superior version (with ad-caps etc) in...
Bearing out what Gary said above - I certainly couldn't miss the advertising when I went on holiday to LA last September, in the week leading up to when Studio 60 was due to start. From the hoardings I gathered that Matthew Perry was in it, and as a Friends fan that encouraged me to watch the...
There is no finer example of this than the opening few minutes of "The Friday Night Slaughter", where the camera swoops down from the audience, to the stage, up stairs, through corridors and offices in a brilliant montage while the musical guest is playing. As for The West Wing, I never...
Does anyone else agree that perhaps it should have been recognised upfront that Studio 60 was not going to be the blockbuster that NBC were hoping for? Looking at the one-hour shows that have been successful in recent years, they generally fall into the category of a) Medical / Cop dramas...
As somebody who only watches one episode per week of a box set, I realised long ago that the digipaks wouldn't survive long if I had to open them 24 times per season. Thus I keep each of the current discs I'm watching in a separate set of slim CD cases, so I only have to open up the boxes 4...
