Mine arrived with the yellow upc and had the wrong disc inside. Thankfully, I sent it back to Paramount and a new B1R2 replacement arrived two weeks later. That's about the only thing in this whole mess that worked out right the first time.
B1R2 is the correct remastered disc. I think most discs in the U.S. are now the correct ones, they sent all the bad discs to Canada, wrapped in new cases with yellow stickers. That's what we get for stealing alot of movie production from Hollywood!
Well, long story short, I called Paramount and told them I had a B1R1 disc and the guy told me I had the first pressing. Then I told him that the case had a yellow upc code. Stopped him dead in his tracks. He puts me on hold for about three minutes, comes back and says to send the disc in, and...
Thanks for the confirmation, Josh. The copy I bought also did not have a security sticker at the top, where as the one with the white upc code did. I had heard the remastered ones do not have a security sticker. Guess I'll find out this weekend when we watch the new disc.
Well, here's a follow up for Canadians looking for the remastered Gladiator. In my travels today I stopped at a Zellers store in Hanover, Ontario. While walking by the electronics section, I spyed a small rack of blu rays and stopped to see what was there. To my surprise, two copies of...
Universal replaced any purchased copy of Gladiator with the new transfer, but did not recall the old stock from the stores or places like Amazon. The old copies are still on many store shelves. Here in Canada, I still have not seen any of the "yellow" replacement discs. I'll probably wait till I...
Gladiator was never recalled. Universal did do a new transfer, and offer free replacements to people who had purchased the original. But, they did not recall the copies that were in the stores, or being sold online. That is why many of us have still not bought a replacement...can't trust the...
I'm sure the Oppo is a great machine, but they are not easy to find in Canada. I think a store in Toronto has them, but they are quite expensive. I could buy three PS3s for the price of one Oppo. My Toshiba does a nice job of upconverting to 1080P.
I don't quite understand? Do you mean supplements on a dvd? I have a Toshiba SD7200 hacked for region free that upsamples through hdmi. I never use my PS3 for playing dvds.
Sorry to say, but when it comes to watching movies I'm one of those "average consumers". I want to able to plunk the blu ray in, and have it work from the start. I don't want to deal with ordering updates or downloading and burning firmware discs. That is one reason we own two PS3s. My son...
I couldn't have said it better fellas. Paramount wants to have its cake and eat it too. They listened to the complaints from folks who had bought the original disc, but don't want to pull the old product from the shelves. They also don't want to make it easy for anyone to know which version...
Still not a sign of any remastered discs in Canada. I'm sure Paramount will try to sell all the originals before they send out new ones. None of the stores know anything about replacement discs, it's a big secret up here! I'm just glad I don't have to go through sending the thing back and...
Good point! I have waited this long, I can wait until I'm sure I have the remastered disc. May take a few years to clear the system of the original discs, as I doubt Paramount will do a recall of store product.
Can anyone upload a photo of the back insert of the remastered Gladiator blu?? I was looking at copies in Toronto, there was two -disc set written on the back left lower corner, but not on the right. All very confusing, I didn't buy any of them. Not sure if the new discs have worked their way...
Blue Dahlia and Glass Key are available from UK Universal if you have a region free player. I watched both together this afternoon. Great prints of both.
Another U.S. only Warner program. These guys must still think Christopher Columbus was nuts, you do fall off the planet once you leave the United States.
I just watched the Region 2 dvd of Northwest Passage. Very acceptable transfer, I'm guessing from the old laser disc. I've just ordered two more dvd's from the same Spanish seller....Five Graves to Cairo and Inferno. I now have choices thanks to a region free player. If Warner, Universal...
At least you have options in the U.S. Here in Canada there is one option, the big box. Oh, you can also wait like I am for the U.K. release, or what I did with Casablanca....wait out the year and purchase the single disc. The Warner Marketing department must be run by students , who haven't...
I didn't realize To Be or Not To Be was left off the Classic Comedies. I bought that box in Atlanta last year while heading to our condo in Orlando. Of course, it had To Be or Not To Be included. I refuse to purchase any substandard Canadian edition of either music or dvd, I just add it to my...
Just a warning for all Canadians looking to buy this box set. It is missing the Stagecoach 2 disc edition. Must be a rights issue, as it has been removed from the packaging listing as well. I found this in two places today...Sunrise and HMV, both without Stagecoach. Seems the Dominion of Tax has...

>>People on the Hoffman board, and others, think that if Steve didn't master it, it has to suck. I disagree, but would never say it over there for fear of beeing booted off.
Larry, try pacemaker.com. It shows the album Sussex by Bentwind in its coming releases. Pacemaker had done alot of sixties and seventies Canadian bands...I have a bunch of them, including a great Ugly Ducklings disc, ,which is out of print now. John was right about the Made In Canada series. I...

Steve Hoffman does do all the remastering for Audio Fidelity. He's one of the best in the business, so you know whatever they put out will be top drawer, soundwise. :D Jay
