While I don't agree with their sales tactics, I really don't see a big problem. If the speakers turned out to be something nice, i.e. B&W, the buyer would be extatic!!! It's sad to read about people actually going after these guys and beating them up (or worse). Do people act the same way when...
How about these guys? Assembly Required Used them for some connectors - much cheaper than PE (which still continues to be one of my most favorite sites :) ).
Aaron - I have 2 tiered platform (for second and third rows). Each is 8" - 2x8 + 3/4" plywood. Jason - the walls are nailed to the top plate, which is nailed to the floor joists above... Each stud had to be cut to size. Neil - the PJ (Z2) mount is staying as is... Those arches took some...
Jason - the rope light is plugged into a switched outlet. At this point, every light is on a dimmer, but I'm seriously considering getting a wireless solution (Lutron, X-10, or similar).
Yes, the walls ARE painted orange-ish color... Due to poor lighting conditions, the color on the picture is "little" off, though. I was pleasantly surprised when I turned on the rope light in the tray ceiling and the glow matched the walls almost perfectly!
Brian - thanks! As I can see, your setup is not too shabby, either ;) Once I get the seats, I will probably make some acoustic panels for the walls - just like yours. The "boss" struck down the idea of linacoustic, batting, etc... covered with fabric :frowning:
Anthony, there is really nothing special about doing arches. As you can see, they are made out of plywood, so it's just a matter of attaching the drywall to the them and finishing.
The 12ga inwall wire is obviously pretty thick and little PITA to work with - i.e. when attaching connectors, etc... I would say stick with 16ga or possibly 14ga, but that's about as big as you will ever need to go.
I just hooked up the 550s and the big foot to an old Denon AVR-3200, and it had NO problems driving them (cleanly) to uncomfortably loud levels :) The 3200 is rated at 5x85W (if I remember correctly).
Definitely give them a call! These guys will work with you for sure! Regarding shipping cost... I also jumped in and bought 550/150/200 setup + a pair of 150s... Shipping weight came in at 340 lbs!!! Cost? $160 - which I thought was very reasonable... They should be deliveded by Yellow Frieight...
I'll second what TanT said - buy some quad shielded RG6 cable at Home Depot, retminate the ends with F-connectors and then use the F to RCA adapters. You will be hard pressed to find something better - at any price point.
