Those original Special Edition DVDs had the best use of animated menus I've seen on any title in any format. Absolutely fantastic.
I'd love to have a 4K set, but I agree - they don't seem to be coming any time soon.
(Mind you, we all said that about True Lies...)
My favourite film of all time, no question. I've seen it countless times, and take away something new with each viewing. The very definition of 'masterpiece'.
I've owned it on VHS, LD, DVD and Criterion BD. I proudly display an original USA 1-sheet on my living room wall, and own a copy of the...
I've always loved this film since seeing it at the cinema all those years ago.
I didn't buy the original 4K, so this seems like a good opportunity.
I wonder if any of those deleted scenes will feature the violence cut from the legendary NC-17 version...?!
I agree with the sentiments above - the "gratitude" is all on our part. TT has released some of my favourite discs of the last 10 years, including a few of my all-time favourite films that I never thought I'd see on BD, especially in such beautiful editions. Releases such as Murphy's Law (with...
I grew up watching a recorded-from-TV VHS version of this. It always used to scare me senseless, particularly the Dr. Zarkov 'brain drain' sequence. Absolutely terrifying!
I'll very much look forward to getting this on UHD - the colours should looks incredible with a decent HDR transfer. Bravo...
I wrote to Shout regarding the incorrect aspect ratio - they're making a replacement disc available. All credit to them for dealing with this quickly.
The email was as follows:
During the authoring process of Earthquake [Collector’s Edition], an error in outputting the master changed the...
Absolutely - sorry for the confusion. It's a PG-rating at the start of the film. My mistake entirely.
Perhaps I was confusing it with the far-better (in my opinion) Charlton Heston 70s disaster epic: Two-Minute Warning!
That would certainly make sense; Shout's version also features the Sensurround warning and the R-rating at the start of the film - perhaps those were on prints only.
Shout say they performed a 2K transfer of "original film elements" rather than original camera negative, so perhaps they used a...
I watched my copy of the new Shout! Factory Earthquake last night.
As reported in another forum, the theatrical version's aspect ratio appears to be closer to 2.2:1 than the correct 2.39:1 original. I initially thought my TV's overscan settings had reverted back to factory setting...
Can...
This is great news - can't wait to see the results.
I very much hope both cuts are on this release. Alternatively of course, I'll just have to buy the US and UK releases separately, just as I did with the BD!
There are already 3 major factors aside from the increased resolution:
- No windowboxing of titles
- Fixed framing on AVTAK
- Fixed everything on Goldeneye.
Absolutely - I'm a huge fan and have a large collection of LDs, DVDs, BDs and a few UHD BDs too. I agree that it'll be fantastic to watch more 4K content than is available on disc format - particularly the 007 films!
Thank you also Worth for the info about the Apple TV vs. streaming apps. I...
Hello everyone. I’ve been following this thread with interest...
I’ve got the Bond 50 BD set, but am growing impatient waiting for a physical UHD release.
As a MASSIVE Bond fan, particularly pre-1989, I’m seriously considering buying an Apple 4K TV purely for the Bonds...
One question: is...
Wow - I never thought I'd see this on BD!
Such a great film. Feels like a great afternoon TV movie with extra doses of violence and bad language. (It was one of the first films I ever saw containing the 'c' word). David 'Sledgehammer' Rasche makes a great villain!
I still have this on 4:3...
I certainly never thought I'd see this on Blu! I've always loved this film - and will now be able to finally retire the LD.
One of this film's real highlights is where Ritter 'zaps' himself into the Three's Company set and starts screaming. So funny.
I'm astonished we still haven't seen a BD release of Bryan Forbes's original The Stepford Wives. It's one of my favourite films, and it's been languishing in SD purgatory for decades...
This seems like a prime candidate for Arrow or Shout!
I'd also love to see Bogdanovich's Targets on BD. I...
I'm absolutely delighted with this news! Satanic Rites and AD 1972 are among my last 'holy grail' films to be released in HD. (Being picky, I'd rather they'd been released by Shout! as we would have probably seen some new extras).
Definite day-1 pickups for me!
Powerhouse / Indicator are doing an incredible job, in my opinion. Their three Hammer sets are absolutely extraordinary, and are probably the jewels of my BD collection.
Despite the decline in physical media, it's wonderful to see BD becoming an increasingly niche format, allowing for some new...
Patriot Games was one of the first '15' rated films I saw at the cinema here in the UK. I think I was 13 at the time, so was very proud of getting in. I think I saw it three times at the cinema, then bought the VHS, LBX VHS, CD-i Video (remember that?!), LD, DVD and BD. One more won't hurt...
DREAM DEMON (1988) - A superb UK horror starring (weirdly) Timothy Spall and Jimmy Nail. This never even had an official DVD release, other than a grey-market Greek release with awful picture quality.
This seems absolutely ripe for an Arrow / 88 Films / Severin rediscovery. Seems a bit obscure...
I've always absolutely loved the David Warbeck / Catriona McColl commentary on The Beyond.
It's probably partly due to the bittersweet nostalgia of hearing Warbeck being charming & hilarious despite being so ill and with so little time left to live, but it's also due to the sheer entertainment...
Interesting to see House on the Edge of the Park get a second US BD release in as many years.
Does anyone know if it's a different transfer to the one Code Red used? If so, it might warrant a double-dip... Also, the "Drive-in experience" feature sounds interesting - Does anyone know what that...
- Alien Quadrilogy
- The James Bond series
- Stanley Kubrick collection (especially 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut)
- and more content shot on film...!!
When one looks at the still-frame comparisons from the above link, the UHD frames actually look okay, especially in terms of detail when compared with the BD.
As someone who owns the UHD however, I can confirm that the uptick in detail is marred by the rest of the transfer's problems. For a...
