Stryke AV15 vs. PE 15" Titanic III

"They are the single spider version that have an extremely high failure rate. That was the reason to the change for dual spiders on the MKII." John - Are you implying that ALL the single spider Mk I AV15's have an expected 50% failure rate? This is more than acedemic interest to me as I have...

    BFD Setup Question.....

I run my speakers as small so the subs get everything below 80 hz. I did my initial BFD tuning using just the sub since the biggest needs tend to be at the lower frequencies. I also ran wider range test tones with both the subs and mains connected so I could get a better idea of the transition...

How to seal the cut ends of MDF before painting?

I've had good succes with a 50-50 mix of regular wood glue and water. Paint it on and let dry then sand. You still need to sand a fair amount but you can get a very smooth finish.

    mounting an AV15: T Nuts?

I've mounted 4 AV15's in an IB setup using round head screws (#10 I believe). I'm using plywood so it's a different situation. Eight #10 coarse thread screws provide a lot of holding power, even in MDF. If you mount the drivers so that the back of the flange is against the baffle, you don't have...

    Consensus on Polyurethane Glues?

Polyurethane foams and expands but the foam does nothing to add strength to an imperfect joint. The only glue you can really use to fill a gap is epoxy. Polyurethane glue is great for outside work where you need waterproof glue. Ordinary carpenter's glue is not waterproof. Poly is also good if...

    OK, stumped by BFD :(

I just thought of one more thing to try. Hook the analog out from one channel of a CD player directly into the BFD. I did this when doing initial testing with a bass test CD and it worked fine. This would eliminate the whole processor/dolby thing as a variable.

    OK, stumped by BFD :(

I just got mine a few weeks ago and it sounds like your connections are correct. Have you tried plugging the cable from your LFE to the sub pre-out with everything else exactly the same (i.e. exactly the same dolby settings on your processor, the same cd/DVD playing)? Could it be that somehow...

Finally finished by Dual Tumult Infinte Baffle

I've got a Crown XLS602 for $299 (including shipping at ZZounds when they were clearing out stock before bringing out the new "a" models) that puts out 1800 watts into 4 ohms bridged and it has a (defeatable)15hz rumble filter built in. I'm using it with my four AV15 IB for at least some...

Finally finished by Dual Tumult Infinte Baffle

I assume your Carver is a Pro amp. If so, many actually deliver rated power into two ohms. Regarding reaching XMax; You can reach X Max at low power (maybe 50 watts +-) if you are at a low enough frequency, e.g. 15-20hz. If you run a simulation with some design software like lspcad, you will...

    My sub is humming....

Sounds like a ground loop. You could have picked it from the ground on you XBox component video cables. Disconnect everything and connect your system pisece by piece. Chances are you will your hum returns when you connect one piece. The solution will depend on exactly what causes it. Take a look...

Screens, are they all the same?

    That's where I got mine.

Screens, are they all the same?

Take a look at the AVS Screens Forum. They have had several threads on the topic including one incredibly long one regarding a DIY screen based on sheet plastic found at home improvement stores that has developed a cult following. I've got an InFocus 7200 and decided to go with a Stewart...

    Defective AV15

Bryan - Leaving the second coil open ~ doubles Qts and cuts power handling ~ 25%. You can "tune" the Qts by putting a resistor across the second coil. Look at the white paper on RDO on the Adire speaker site for more details. Dustin - That is bad news about the delay. It is actually pretty...

    Defective AV15

Good guess Greg, but that's not it (although that is exactly the kind of sound I'm getting). The AV15's have the leads woven into the spider so that can't happen.

    Defective AV15

I bought four AV15s during the recent preorder and one of them is defective. John, at Stryke, has told me to ship it back to TC Sounds for a rebuild and I'm wondering what kind of turn around I can expect. Does anyone have experience under similar circumstances? The problem I'm having is that...

    my little line array project

Two center channels is not a good idea because you will get cancelation effects unless the listener is exactly centered between the speakers. If you are off to one side, even a little, the difference in arrival time will cause some band of frequencies (frequency dependent on difference in...

A Tumult woofer with 2400W... will I fry the woofer?

You would need to verify it with a simulation, but I think it is very likely that you would crush the voice coil against the back plate (or perhaps turn your cone from an "innie" to an "outie")long before you reached the thermal power handling limits. Especially if you try to send it even a...

Heard anything about the new AV15 shipment?

I don't believe there is a problem reaching X-Max with the new AV15s. I received four a couple weeks ago and have done some (rough) measurements of their excursion. I made a paper measuring aid as described on the Linkwitz site (I can't remember what he called it but it is a triangle of paper...

    Covering for IB outlet

I will be putting 4 AV15's in my ceiling sometime this fall. I will also have a 20 x 20 hole to cover. I plan to make something thing very much like a "regular" speaker grill cover. I'm going to build a frame (like a picture frame) out of like 1 x 2 (actually 3/4 x 1 1/2) inch lumber and cover...

    InFocus ScreenPlay 7200 hangs up

Has anyone had this problem with their SP 7200 and had it fixed by InFocus: My SP7200 will "hang" once every week or two. When this happens the PJ will continue to operate but will not take any new commands from the remote control or any of the buttons on the projector itself, including the...

Heard anything about the new AV15 shipment?

Thanks for the info Brian. You are right about calling but you would think that a company that takes orders over their web site would use the the thread on their own forum that they created to provide status on the AV15s.

Heard anything about the new AV15 shipment?

John has gone quiet on the Stryke site. The last I heard on a forum (this one?) was last week and the the AV15s were supposedly complete and on a loading dock at TC sounds. Has anyone heard anything more/different? Thanks.

    Help, Moving DIY subs/drivers.

I would leave the driver in the enclosure. If you are worried about somebody poking through the packing box the sub is in and into the cone, you could cut a piece of Masonite the same size as the front (or on whatever surface your driver is mounted)and tape it to the enclosure, over the cone...

    Anyone gotten their AV15's?

The last post from John on the Stryke site said he did not not expect to have AV15s shipped to him until this coming week. I have four on pre-order. Tracy and Brian - are you saying that you have received notice that your AV15's from the recent pre-order were shipped last week? Did John...
