I had a 61" DLP, but returned it due to rainbows and the super-natural colors. At first glance, the neon greens were a great WOW! factor. But after a few weeks, they just didn't look right to me. I replaced it with a Hitachi 60" LCD, and couldn't be happier. No rainbows and a much more film-like...
I agree with the sentiments here - iTunes is great for mobile music and onesy-twosy song purchases. If occasional sound quality loss drives you crazy, don't use MP3's at less than 200kbps. On the topic of iTunes only working (natively) on iPods - That's not an oversight, it's the whole point...
I've downloaded close to 100 songs from iTunes, and have yet to come across a sound quality issue. I'm sure if I sat in my home theatre and just listened with no other distractions I could hear problems, but that's when you buy the CD. As for using the files, easy to burn to CD.
Don't forget that for most people, flat-out picture quality is not the only feature they consider when buying a TV. Size/weight and burn-in are two fairly important attributes where the CRT comes in dead last.
I noticed absolutely no difference in viewing angle between the DLP and LCD TV's. I had the DLP for over a month and then traded for LCD. My lateral viewing angle is from 0 (straight ahead) to about 60 degrees. Now as for verticle viewing angle, both sets really suck. Very important to have your...
I don't know what speed my Samsung DLP was, but it was a new model (Q3 2003), and I guess I'm one of the few people who sees rainbows and can't ignore them. Again, buy from someone with a good return policy and watch the TV a lot during that 30 days or so. A lot of the pluses and minuses of...
Actually, you have it backwards. Most of the front projection DLP's use 3 chips, which means they show all three colors at the same time and don't have the potential for rainbows. The RPTV's use one chip with a color wheel, which is the problem. I'm kinda thinking that I'll wait until 3-chip...
I mostly agree with your summary, but I contend that things are not as "black and white" as you state them. To say LCD is "NOT suitable for fast action" is a bit over the top. I watch lots of sports and action movies on my Hitachi 60v500 and I think it looks great. Along the same lines...
As it has been pointed out on this forum and others many times: it's all subjective. Do your homework and spend lots of time watching the various technologies using many different sources. Pick the TV whose flaws are least noticeable to you. Every technology out there has a list of problems...
See the thread on AVSforum titled "CircuitCity/Hitachi 50v500 crop circle BS!!!" Sorry, they won't let me post a link! That's why I bought the extended warranty on my 60v500. ALL performance issues are covered. Worth the money easily.:emoji_thumbsup:
Be careful buying on-line. I was totally convinced that the 61" Sammy DLP was the tv for me after doing tons of reasearch and watching several of my friends 50" DLPs for hours. But as soon as I got it in my house - RAINBOWS everywhere. I was very glad I bought from CC. They ordered my...
I went with the Hitachi, but the differences in these sets is VERY subtle. I can't recall hearing of anyone returning one of these sets for the other. Generally, most of the returns/exchanges are between different technologies like DLP/LCD/Plasma/CRT.
Well put, James. I think that may be the most neutral summation of the LCD vs DLP argument I've seen. It makes sense that it came from a CRT owner! I have the Sammy DLP, but due to rainbows and dithering, I'm returning it for the Hitachi LCD.
...Mike.
Yes, I agree, but I haven't witnessed that. Are you comparing screens of the same size? Lots of people have really ragged on the Samsung DLP's with SD sources, but I've been quite happy with mine (61"). I have a close friend with a 55" SD, and mine just totally blows his away on an SD source...
My advice is to check out the posts on this and AVSFORUM over the past month or so. Generally, the most talked about TV's are the best ones out there. Personally, I went with the 61" Sammy DLP, but it's going back once a 60" Hitachi LCD comes in - rainbows on the DLP. The key thing is making an...
I'm about to take the plunge on a Sammy 61"DLP and need some advice on the warranties offered by Fry's and Circuit City. The sales reps from both stores swear the others' aren't worth the paper they're written on. Anyone had to have work done under these extended warranties (good experiences...
I'm close to purchasing a Samsung DLP and have done a lot of research on the forums and in the stores. The ONLY place I've heard of a reliability issue on the Samsung's is at a few of the local high-end shops that were out of stock and really pushing what was on their floor. These TV's have...
Does the 931 also have component outputs? If so, couldn't you run those to another input on the DLP for watching those non-anamorphic DVD's? Then you could use the DLP aspect ratio control to keep it in 4:3. It's a waste of an input, but at least you don't need another DVD player/remote/etc...
I'm trying to decide on a widescreen HDTV (Sony 60inch LCD, Samsung DLP and Mitsu 55") CRT and have read lots of posts about how different each of these technologies reproduce blacks. Any suggestions on specific movies (with specific scenes) to use to really highlite these differences...
