This is reviewed in the April Widescreen Review Sound gets 2.5 and picture 3 Mono and Stereo soundtracks Problems with a crackling sound in both. Out of sync problems in both. Strident highs in mono Stereo is overbalanced to the right.
I'm cross posting this here for those interested. It has been reported that Battle Of The Bulge is now in the HDNet rotation in what looks to be its UP70 OAR.
My big questions on these bulb projectors is image quality longevity. I've seen some guys at AVS saying their projectors are giving them a dim, dull picture after 1000 to 1500 hours of bulb life.
If you like Joe Dante films I think you'll like this one. Very manic. The whole frame is filled with in jokes and they even spill on to the soundtrack's musical cues. I have to say this is one of the worst looking prints I've seen in a while. Very grainy. No detail even in close ups. It also...
Somewhere I read that the term "Super Cinerama" really referred to the presentation. Cinerama theaters built with the screen as the 4th wall of the auditorium were considered "Super Cinerama" theaters. Therefore any Cinerama film shown on those screens could be considered "Presented in Super...
Paul/Roland I took another look at the WSR article. Under the "Notes" section he lists The Last Valley as being released with "some prints in 70MM Super Cinerama" That's the same notation he used with the other 70MM Cinerama films.
Roland, Since you listed the "Presented In Cinerama" films earlier. I always wondered why you didn't list "The Last Valley" as one of them. Michael Coate listed it as being "Presented In Cinerama" in his 70MM list in Wide Screen Review. Pete SE
Roland, Did you ever try Brothers Grimm or HTWWW on a curved screen with your Piano FP? If you could keep it in focus on a 120 Degree curve you could almost replicate the Dome's presentation since they shaved off the 146 Degree image to 126 due to the cross reflections. That would get rid of...
On the Google RAMT forum they mentioned that they were using a combination of lenses. A a borrowed UP anamorphic lens and another for the curved screen. This combo might have diminished light output somewhat.
Ron, I knew it wouldn't be a restoration but I thought it might have the police calls that have been added to the print running at the Dome this week. With some seamless branching that should be possible with little problem. A nice scan of this new UP print in 2:76 would be a plus also.
I read on another forum today that MGM released a longer version of IAMMMMW this week, unannounced. I took a trip over to CC to check it out and indeed there is a different version from the one I have. It has a different bar code number. Although the artwork on the front is the same the...
I have about 70 of these titles. The Warner Brothers titles seem to be consistantly the best. There is one exception I found. "Amazing Journeys" on Slingshot seems to be the sharpest title. "The Living Sea" is a good ocean title. "Galapogos";"Survival Island" and "Beavers" are good...
Just received my copy of this souvenier DVD fro the recent 3D Festival in L A. This is a fun disc. PQ isn't the greatest, but we can't expect too much from 50 year old trailers. It has 45 of the trailers from the films shown at the event. It also includes some poster artwork, lobby...
I'm a big collector also but use the library as much as possible for titles I would only rent. Right now I just finished watching X-Files Season 3. I actually never watched the show during it's original run. I really enjoyed having the entire Season 3 boxed set to watch with better picture...
The opening sequence flying through the mountains is also a TIS outtake. Rejected because of all of the squashed bugs stuck to the front of the plane. This was later cured by keeping the front of the plane covered with paper until it reached an altitude above the "bug zone".
Mart Hart's Widscreenmuseum has just posted downloads of two How The West Was Won posters he produced for upcoming 3 Strip Cinerama engagements. I'm not a member here long enough to list the exact html. It can be found at /htwww poster1
From what I've read at Google's rec.arts.movie.tech it is a new print. Possibly a "rectified" print for the Cinerama screen. It is not a "restored" print according to an MGM rep.although they may show some "restored" footage also.
I'm assuming WB might be releasing WWOTBG to cash in on any Brothers Grimm fever that may be generated from Terry Gilliam's new film. They released "The Story of Seabiscuit" just about the time the new screen version rolled out. I agree there is nothing like seeing a Cinerama presentation...
Another ABC/Cinerama release Anchor Bay had was "Song Of Norway" it was offered as a VHS only release. It was listed as a future DVD release for a while on their web site. The most interesting ABC/Cinerama release that Anchor Bay didn't touch was Louis De Rochemont's "Windjammer". It had a...
