I've got 14-gauge Home Depot wire running to all speakers from my Denon 3803. Speakers are all Axiom - not junk. I use Radio Shack Gold Series connector cables on all components. I definitely see a difference between the junky cheapo cables that come with the componenets and the RS Gold...
Just a follow-up - I bought the Panny 80-gig hard disk recorder/DVD burner this weekend. While I'm still figuring out how to use all the bells and whistles, I've figured out the "pause live TV" stuff - and it does indeed work. I hear what you're saying about the comparison to Tivo. Tivo...
That's funny, I also have brand-new Axiom M22s sitting next to the 3803 waiting to be hooked up! Actually a whole Axiom HT system - M22s, the 100-series center, the Qs-4 surrounds, and the 175-watt sub. I bought a reel of 14-gauge speaker wire yesterday, so homefully over the course of this...
Hopkins - I'm still at work in Manhattan! It will be 7 or 8 before I get home. I got the status from 6th Ave's online tracking function, linked to UPS. Dayum! :D
GRRRR! I gues my wife wasn't home, and UPS wouldn't leave the box without a signature! Delivery re-scheduled for Monday! UGH! I was going to get everything put together this weekend. Grrrrr......
My 3803 shipped today. I live in northern NJ, and it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Woo hoo! Kinda funny to see the UPS tracking info. It left one location about an hour from me, traveled to a different location an hour from me, and about one hour ago is was scanned in at a THIRD location...
Specifically, the audio. Right now the box is just hooked up to an old direct-view TV, using the traditional RF coax output to the back of the TV. All of my new HT junk is on order/en route (hee hee!), and I'm going to go buy cables this weekend. Of course, I'm going to use the separate...
I haven't assembled my system yet - speakers and receiver are on order, TV (same model you're getting) will happen in a few weeks. So I can't speak from personal experience. But I've read a ton of stuff, and lots of the hardcore types say that Monster is overpriced junk. I see a lot of...
I got the 6th Ave deal too! I ordered the 3802 online last night, then just now I called up to verify the order - the customer service rep read is back to me as the 3803, NOT the 3802! Woohoo!
Most of the RP tvs I've looked at - even the CRT ones - don't have a terribly wide platform on top of the TV. Do you guys stick a gob of velcro up there, or what? How do you get the speaker to stay? I feel like there must be some sort of trick to it, of which I'm not savvy.
Even if you're going to do this the "incremental" way, you should strongly consider that Onkyo receiver on its own - shop around for the best price you can get. One of the lower-end Harmon Kardon models would also suit your needs very well.
I've been researching the various HD-based DVD recorders out there, and I haven't been able to figure out one detail. Don't have Tivo, but I've heard lots about it from friends. With the HD burners, can you mimic the "commercial killing" functionality of Tivo, and the live TV "pause"...
I'm not familiar with the specific components you mention, but I've equipped a couple of desktop PCs with surround-sound systems. For speakers, focus only on packages sets. PC-quality audio, in a dorm room setting, a good set will be fine, whichever model you choose. In my experience, in a...
Thanks for the responses so far. I'm not sure that the front projector idea will work. First, it will fail the Good Housekeeping Stamp of Approval (Mrs. Frank**F). Second, the opposite end of the room will be nothing but a wide doorway, with lots of light coming through. No way to control it...
I'm putting this thread here rather than in one of the topic-specific forums, because I realize that the shape of the room will affect lots of things, from viewing angles, to acoustics, to furniture, to who-knows-what. The HT will go into a room 12 feet deep by 25 feet wide. Windows at one...
