Please Recommend Processor(s) to Scale DVDs to 1080p.

I have a evga gt1030 with no fan just a heat sink and I'm playing ripped ultra Blu-ray with MadVR. I'm also playing videos at 4k, 60 hz with HDR and running WCS color profiles. So if anyone tells you that card is not good enough It keeps on performing and isn't dropping any frames.

    Home Theater upgrade Speakers

I don't think it's wrong to upgrade from the center to fronts to surrounds. I remember looking years ago at that Onkyo HTIB but thinking I was dealing with a finished basement 900 Sq. Foot room and I thought floor standing speakers were better. I didn't have a big budget so I bought the entry...

    Processor or AVR Suggestions

I just bought the Yamaha entry level AVR because my Harmon Kardon died. The reason I went with Yamaha is because I also own a mixer for home recording. The build quality on the mixer is really good. Knobs are tight and inputs/outputs are not loose. I paid a little more for it but I can tell...

    How times have changed

The Video Stores all closed in my neighborhood. I used to rent blurays and if it was a keeper I'd rip it with Anydvd. Now that streaming is so popular I barely used the HTPC anymore. Fast forward to today and I just upgraded my projector. The Black levels are beautiful on the screen so now I'm...

Question: TV Coax Cable / connectors

There are so many other factors to getting a better picture before using a steel, silver or gold plated cable. There are articles that while some cables are more expensive and they test better on a scope it doesn't translate into a better picture when viewing or listening...

    Projector >>>Computer Connection... HELP PLEASE!!

Your computer needs a surround sound card. I have a Chaintech av710 with a optical out. I just plug the optical cable into my receiver from the soundcard. If you just want stereo you need a 3.5mm stereo jack to two RCA connectors. The 3.5 jack plugs into the Aux out of the computer and the...

Internal HD Vs. External HD (pros & cons)

I bought a Seagate external hard drive a couple of months ago. Plugged it in via the USB and changed it from fat32 to NTSC and it works great for playing HD movies off of it. I was thinking if I bought a internal drive I'd have to upgrade my power supply. Now I see the externals are even...

    FLUANCE

It is quite possible that for some people they are not into audio as much as they are into video? I have to say that over the last five years I've spent maybe $1200 on audio and six times that amount on video. The majority of my time with my theater is spent tweaking the picture. I know there...

    FLUANCE

They sound much better than the price you pay. They can't be compared to Paradigm speakers but for watching films they work well. Listening to music they sound good with a warm receiver, but not as good as a set of $2000 speakers do. Still, they sound better than any HTIB set of speakers you'll...

    FLUANCE

Sorry, I seemed to have gotten messed up there trying to edit a typo. The second to last review from eccoustics was mine. So there's one review that I can vouch for. You can never audition those speakers that's why they and other online speakers can be had for a good price. You can only judge...

    FLUANCE

Four years ago this section was buzzing with interest in Fluance speakers. They were the King of budget speakers and the very reason why I signed up to this forum. I suppose people have moved on since then. There's probably another type of budget speaker that's current now...

    Couple ?s about projector hook-up . . .

I assume you're thinking about a 720P projector. This reads like overkill for wiring that's becoming quickly obsolete. S-video will give you a maximum resolution of 480i and component video although still useful today is going to meet it's end when cheaper 1080p projectors start appearing...

    FLUANCE

I've had a set of SX-HTB for almost four years now. They're excellent theater speakers for the price. I haven't found a reason yet to think of replacing them. I've changed my projector, changed pieces on my computer added a HD-DVD player and they still, I feel do an admiral job. I've matched...

    Question about DLP/LCD

It does depend on the set's deinterlacer. I remember watching 20 years ago hockey games in bars with CRT projectors and standard def feeds. PQ was poor. My LCD projector has a poor deinterlacer so I bought a TV capture card for $100 years ago and put it in my old PIII computer. The PQ...

Help with my HTPC Picture quality

Stay away from the s-video cable. It's not a high def cable. Find a transcoder like this. http://www.htpcnews.com/main.php?id=transcoder_1 You can even get a DVI/VGA adapter for less than $20.00 and use it on the DVI out of the videocard to the transcoder using a VGA cable. From the...

    Fluance SX-HTB speaker package

That's funny, I submitted a review two years ago to that same link. I still have those speakers and they still sound good. I found the center channel was directional and I settled on raising it 5" off the ground. The voices are much clearer now to listen to.

    Thinking about getting a projector...

October is a good month to buy projectors. New projectors come out in November and current projector models are cleared out then. Here's a link to a DIY screen I modelled mine on. http://members.shaw.ca/danhanson/The...eenproject.htm

    Software for htpc?

Here's a setup guide to using ffdshow, zoomplayer and dscaler. http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_1 To get dolby digital you have to click the external tab in zoomplayer and highlight SPDIF output. ffdshow requires alot of processing power so you might have to overclock the CPU.

    Infocus 4805 refurbs.

This authorized dealer thing is very grey and unclear. I bought a Harman Kardon receiver from Etronics a few years ago only to find out it wasn't an authorized dealer. I needed warranty repair and all I did was send it back to Etronics and the problem was fixed and returned. I always...

    Infocus 4805 refurbs.

I was looking at those refurbs and there's only a $300 to $400 difference for a three month warranty on parts and labour compared to 2 years. The brand new one has a $100 mail in rebate at this time. It would be a real downer if the bulb blew at 4 months. It would also appear the prices are...

    Is it worth overclocking?

When you startup in the bios it will tell you the normal CPU temp then you can see the rise in temp by gradually overclocking it. Keep in mind a 1.6 GHZ P4 overclocked to 2.13 GHZ is very different from overclocking a 3.2 GHZ by 25%. I overclocked my Athlon64 3400+ by 5% and got a 3 degree...

    Thoughts on my HTPC?

If you want to do any resizing with the latest sse2 version of ffdshow you'll need a P4 3.2ghz and a ATI 9800pro. I'm running 512MB DDR ram. http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_1 http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/f...2.exe?download To enable the dolby digital in Zoom player you have...

    Identify this spyware/virus

I found the latest NAV Professional did well with spyware as well as not using IE Explorer. I set all my IE Explorer settings to the highest and only drop them when I update XP. I use the latest version of Firefox and don't enable anything when I browse. When I use Google I'm very carefull...

    HTPC displayed on TV question

Not in your case. Beware that the DVI connection is copy protected. People have bypassed it by downloading ANYDVD. I don't know how it would effect your setup. VGA is analogue and therefore no copy protection.
