I have Paradigm Studio 20s and CC470 in front (v3). I am thinking of in-walls for surround and rear (mounting a normal speaker is not an option). I noticed from the specs that the tweeter in Paradigm’s SA line is different from their Studio v3s. It appears the SAs use the older tweeter found...
I have Studio 20s and Minis. I like each very much. Minis are IMO 80% of the goodness of the studios for half the price. I have no doubts you will be happy with the monitor line.
That is better then my placement option. Ideally, IMO, they do not fire directly at your listening position. I think some people like this but the surrounds can draw more attention to themselves this way. I just realized that I don't know if you surrounds are dipoles. If dipoles, I would...
I really like both. Studios are definitely better. Still surprised how much I like the Minis for half the price though. I sure would like to hear the Signatures. I certianly do not mind the brightness. Perhaps I will look for an amp that is "warm."
hi, I just did an A/B comparison between my 20s and newly acquired Minis (will be place in surround position). All are v3s. I had Atoms in surround before and, while I guess for the price the Atoms are good, I felt there was a huge difference between them and the Studios. I love the 20s...
Paradigm's tech told me that the 470 is for the 20s and 40s, the 570 for 60s and 100s If you have the space and money and are planning on the larger studios anyway, get the 570.
I listened to the SA-25s and they sounded great (at the dealer's). They were installed just above ear level. I am assuming you are going in-wall for aethetic purposes and more for background sound rather than critical listening. If so, I would not sweat over either brand. These are very nice...
The Atoms are white and while great when I was planning on wall mounting, not so good now that they will be on stands. Wife really wants black so I have to change out the Atoms and while at it, may as well upgrade a bit to the Minis. Thanks all for your advice, I feel pretty good about the...
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any insight on Mini Monitors v2 or v3 vs Studio 20s v1? I have Paradigm Studio 20s (v3) and CC-470 for fronts. I am changing out my surrounds but wife says no way to getting another set of new 20s for surround (too big). This leaves me with Minis or...
Thanks John and Marty. Marty, did you feel the Minis were a big improvement over the Atoms? I am going to use them for surrounds until we remodel in a couple of years, then I am upgrading to Studios (I have Studios for the fronts). John, I was actually hoping you were on the forum today...
Does anyone know of anyplace in the San Francisco Bay Area that buys/sells used Paradigm speakers? How about a place that takes trade-ins? I have a pair of new Atoms that I am not going to use. I am going to upgrade to Mini Monitors instead. Thanks Jonathan
I have 20s/470 in front. When I checked with Paradigm, they said that the 470 goes with 20s and 40s but the 570 is the intended match for 60s and 100s. When you get the 60s, I would be interested in if you feel they blend with the 470 as well as the 20s do.
Ronneil, I do not think anyone is saying there is anything wrong with the ADP-170s. I believe they use the same drivers as the Atoms so should sound similar. There are numurous threads over di/bi pole vs. direct radiating for the surrounds. There are champions on both sides so you should...
Hi All, Thanks for the good input. There seems to be two slightly different threads here, one for Ronneil Camara who seems to have a similar question. For me, I already have 20s and 470 in front and really like them. I will upgrade to the 40s when we remodel in a few years. I...
Hi, I never heard the Minis but I assume most people like them better than the Atoms for what I read here. I will try to go have a listen at the local dealer. I am thinking of upgrading my surrounds. Unfortunately, in my situation, they will have to be on short stands, pointing up towards...
Hi, Skipping the long story about how I am forced to consider this option (hint: wife), I am looking for advice on surround speaker placement. I have Studio20s v3 and a center, I think 470, for the fronts. For surrounds... a) I can either use regular speakers (Paradigm Atoms in my...
You could go cheaper on the surrounds. It is not as important to match them. You could also go 20s for the surrouds to get a perfect match. If it were me, I would go ADPs for the diffuse sound. Alas, my wife would not allow the large ADPs on the wall so I have Atoms. They are okay for surrounds.
If anyone is interested, someone over on AVS forums pointed me to this link. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...le-5-2003.html I also recieved a few responses for 3 different people that have done this with good results.
Hi, I once read an article, can't find it now, where the authors combined two 14 ga wires at the terminals to, in essence, create I believe the equivalent of 11 ga. Anyways, I can go with 12 ga (one to each) or two 14 ga (two to each) to my surrounds (they are not bi-wireable). Runs of...
I would try not to drill any holes in them as it may affect the sound and will definitely affect resale should you ever want to sell them. There are mounts that will clamp your speakers at the bottom from the sides. Just search on speaker mounts using google and you will find a place that...
V3 Paradigm Studios are out and are more expensive than v2. You will not be able to squeeze new Studios all around plus a sub and receiver into a 3k budget. You could save some money on the surrounds as it is not as important to match those to the front (though preferable). For WAF...
I just ordered some Atoms today for my system (surrounds) so I obviously think they are good, especially for the money. You are not going to be able to get this setup new with a sub for $600. If you can go without a sub for now, this setup or even the Titans (one size up from the Atoms) is in...
I am very space challenged. The ADP 170s are too big so I am stuck with either the Atoms or the ADP 70. I have heard good things about the Atoms and actually auditioned them as rears with the Studio 20/CC upfront (which I bought). Obviously I would like to get the Studio ADPs in back but...
Match rears are a bonus but many live without them. BTW, you may want to play with the positioning to see what you like best. Dolby does not recomend pointed them directly at the listening position to create a more diffuse sound.
My ceiling slants down towards the listening position. If my wife allows us to go with ADPs, is there any problem to think about if they are placed close to the ceiling? On one side, it will fire partially into the ceiling while the other fires along the wall without a reflecting surface until...
Depends on if you like the Studio line. For the majority of people, the Studios are better in all aspects but not everyone will agree. IMO, the studios are going to make a big difference for you. I would audition the studios and see if you think they are better to you than your current set...
