The way I figure it is the WORST that can happen is I put my NHT's back in the attic and just go with the Def Techs and Polks. How awful could that be?
Decided to go with the following setup:
Mains: NHT SuperOne xu
Center: NHT VS1.4
Sub; NHT SWS2i
2nd set of mains: Def Tech AW6500
Rear: Polk Audio Atrium 4
Yes, I know these are mismatched. The NHT speakers I have had laying around for many years and they will be very well under cover...
Thanks to all who responded! I keep going back and forth in my head - I keep getting more and more confused every day! One thing that strikes me as passing strange is that outdoors is the most demanding environment one could put a loudspeaker in, yet the makers all stick to the bookshelf form...
Thanks for your feedback. Have you auditioned any of them? I've looked at those Atrium speakers and they get good reviews and certainly appear to be high quality. And I have own a pair of Polk R15's, so I'm not unfamiliar with Polk speakers. But it sure would be nice to hear from someone...
Sounds like either a rub or a blown voice coil - when you tried the different amp, are you certain that that second amp hit the same frequencies/SPL you were hitting with the first amp?
I'm in, hopefully, the end stage of putting a pool into my backyard. Excavation began at the end of June and it's been a bit of a rocky road. Hurricane Harvey didn't help matters any, but we have a shell, coping/tile, and a poured concrete deck. I've been jonesing a bit lately (sitting...
In doing a little research at J&R's site, I found the HK 3380 for about $230 and the HK 3480 for about $300. I'm strongly leaning toward one of these at the moment, as I have had excellent experience with my HK AV7200 HT receiver.
I'm having to replace the old Kenwood receiver in my garage which has just died. I'm looking for a 2 channel only integrated amp or receiver which will power 4 speakers. I'm looking for recommendations for this replacement, and here are my criteria: 1) Solid power handling (driving Polk...
I'm looking to replace the ancient Pioneers in the rear deck of my even more ancient Camry and was hoping for some suggestions. I have a 40w (well, that's what Clarion claims anyway) head unit and, at least for the moment, not planning to add an amp. I'm looking for solid all-around performance...
I'm curious. Just how on earth is it illegal for a reseller to buy product from an authorized dealer and then sell it themselves? What law is broken by that? I realize that defacing the serial number might constitute fraud against the buyer, not against Klipsch. But I do not see how it could...
Less than a year old, I am forced to sell this awesome center channel loudspeaker due to a recent unfortunate financial circumstance. This is in perfect condition and I have the original box and manual. Asking $250 + shipping.
Less than a year old, I am forced to sell my mains due to recent financial downturn. They are in perfect condition and I have all shipping boxes, manuals and accessories (floor spikes). Asking $750 + shipping. Pictures available upon request.
This receiver is in fantastic shape with original box, manual and remote. Am only selling due to personal financial circumstances. Asking $800 + shipping. Pictures available upon request.
If you really like the DPR1001, you might want to jump over to OneCall - they're blowing theirs out and right now selling it for only $599 +shipping: http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_17142.htm
Michael, if you're interested in buying used, I've got a whole set of NHT speakers (2x Super One, 2x SuperZero, 1x VS-1.2a (center) and 1x Super Sub). I just learned today that my contract at work is being terminated because of budget issues and I need a little extra cash more than I need this...
Brad, I'd imagine that modification to your amp was to change from 120V AC to 220 VDC current. Probably that was a US-spec amp which was modded to run on whatever electrical systems you have in Oz.
I personally wouldn't replace the crossover except with the EXACT same make and model. If you do decide to change out the crossover, and it's not an exact replacement, you might want to consider changing it in both speakers to keep the response identical.
Brad, I've no direct experience with this amp, but there's no reason to think it won't do a great job for you - it obviously worked well for your dad, and H/K has a great reputation for quality and reliability. Depending upon your desire for overwhelming bass extension and volume levels, it may...
Brad, I suspect that 1200 watts is power consumption, not power output. There is no direct correlation between the two. And 55 lb is just about right for 150 wpc.
